Description The Most Rockin' track from M-Lab's debut album "From Baser Elements"
Lyrics six drinks before you reveal the troubles that brought you ‘round my way.
you grope in every direction, trying to feel yourself again.

you’ve come to me

you say “he acts like a mirror: i hold him up, he shows my faults.
every day i’m sinking deeper. now i’m sure there’s no way out.”

walking down to the water’s edge you see yourself and you fall in
walking down to the water’s edge you see yourself and you fall in

but lady, look in the mirror. you’ll never see yourself that way.
you stare at your own reflection. oh, how you love to hate that face.

just try to see

how can i bring you nearer? how can i take you back with me?
i just aim to give you perspective. i just aim to set you free.

walking down to the water’s edge you see yourself and you fall in
walking down to the water’s edge you see yourself and you fall in

but she says: “i hate you.
i really hate you.
you’re like a failed
vision
of beauty, a foiled
version
of truth”
and she stares...

i see you falling in
i see you falling in

walking down to the water’s edge you see yourself and you fall in
walking down to the water’s edge you see yourself and you fall in

and you fall in and you fall in and you fall in and you fall in and you fall
in and you fall in and you fall in

fall in.

Hardware standard fare...piano (Derek Gregor), bass(me), drums(Mike White), violin(Skye Steele), voices(Drew Brody, leads, myself, backing vox).
Software: DP4 for main tracking, protools for mixing and vocals/violin

Hey Twon! Your band sounds great! Good to hear you
again. Definitely one to download.

Piano driven rock
Piano driven rock, always can use more of it! Excellent
chorus hook; love the driving 8th notes, harmonies. I like
all the changes, the call and response section near the
end, the drive into the final repeats, the final chord fall.
Very well mixed. Since I've seen you guys perform this
live, I know the energy it generates on stage and wish that
would translate a little more. Still, a driving track.
(Consider posting the main lyrics.) Post more!

Narcisus
I like the modern feel to the lyrics, the sense of free verse
that falls right into place with the music. The chorus is my
favorite part.

_nderscore said 1355 days ago
nice rockin feel
neat sound-almost seems like it belongs to a decade or
two earlier than present, but much more polished. really
dug the background created by the squeaky guitars

nice rockin feel
no guitars, that's a violin.

Wow. What a fusion of stylin'
Commingling jazz, classical, ambient and hard rock
genres. Are we allowed to do that? Yes!

Very, very good song. You have command of everything
here -- rugged lyrics, aggressive singing, hurting
whispers, chord progressions, arpeggiated piano runs,
stuttering percussion, wailing instrument leads, gritty
bending bass riffs, sweet change-ups, pregnant pauses,
ebb and flow. Not to mention high production values
(thanks to use of top-flight Pro Tools). You have so much
going on here but it holds together. I like the squeaky
door guitar sounds that flit about near the end.

I 'm not sure what I could suggest to improve this. Good
luck in your endeavors.

I wonder where the son gets his inspiration?

Wow. What a fusion of stylin'
thanks for the good comments, it's nice to hear posative things from
fellow musicians...my violinist is getting insulted by all these "squeaky
guitar" comments though (haha).

Wow. What a fusion of stylin'
Solution: get a guitar skin for the violin. :-)

Powerful piece
There is a lot to like here. Excellent mix and production. It
does have a kind of 80s feel to it. Complex, tight
instrumental and vocal arrangements are fun to hear,
especially toward the end.

Like _nderscore, I like the squeaking guitar (violin?)
Excellent piece.

Great Song
Enjoyed this piece. This crosses so many genres. I'm
gonna download this one.

If comments regarding production are wanted (if the
image is any indicator, this is a cd, so it may be too late)...
i thought the piano was elevated a little too much above
the rest of the band in some parts... not so much by
volume, but the applied reverb separated it from the
band.

But that's just being nitpicky, not meant to bring down a
really good song.

8-8-7-8

Great Song
gotta say i agree with your notes...but a band is a democracy, so the
reverb stayed.

What a ride!
Wow. Uh, I guess I should come back to reality after
listening so I can offer more useful comments now... The
odd chords at the beginning were unique and engaging, I
wanted to keep listening to see how you'd resolve the
initial loose ends of melody and lyric, and I enjoyed the
ride. Great slow buildup. Nice touches, like the spoken
part in the middle. In some ways this sounded like it was
ripped out of an epic rock opera. 8s across the board,
and this isn't quite my style of music, but I could feel/hear
your great talent, well done!

Drakonis

the rock world....hehhehhe......hi energy playin and totally

Solid
You guys have a great song here. Wonderful arrangement
and great little touches like the electric violin. Great
performances all around, including strong vocals.

I think I agree that the piano may be just a touch
overpowering in places. Maybe the vocals could come up
just a touch (instead), as they feel somewhat buried.
Whatever, it's a fine point.

Very Professional
Great driving song. Quality musicianship from everyone
and enjoyed the quality of the recording. Must run in the
family.

Really spot on! Only comment: since we're at a primarily
GB site, I'd really be interested in knowing what happens
when you get a hold of GB instead of DP or protools.

oh... i'm not sure about the ending... at first it sounds like
a mistake and then i get the cacaphony... but i'm not
convinced.

in any case, i'd buy the single at iTunes!

Cantor said 1354 days ago

whoops! i didn't mean to post this first one... the "cacaphony" was my iTunes
playing your tune after i downloaded it but while i was still playing it in my
browser. on a "duh" scale of 1-10, that was a DUHHHHHH. Sorry. my bad!

Prog-Pop
I like this. DC pretty much nails it with the comments about the piano. A little less 'verb and quieter maybe? At the mo the piano sounds slightly detached from the rest of the mix. Hey, im being picky here. A great track. MJ2.0 needs a new genre - PROG-POP. I'm currently working on a track that needs the same genre. Keep 'em coming.

Prog-Pop
i agree, prog pop should get some more recognition, most of my most
important influences are prog-poppers like spock's beard and kevin
gilbert, and whose heard of them, and if they had, they's never use the
term "prog-pop" to describe it.

Another well-crafted tune. I like it a lot.

nice
Like the vocals, lots of energy. Like how the instrumentals
work together especially the drums.

Nice fuzz guitar at the end of a phrase I heard.

Cool ending
The whole tune was nicely done and can tell a lot of work
was put into it.

A True Favorite!!!

This awesome song brought me to MacJams in the first place, and it's the first song I open each time I visit! I love everything about this song, and agree with all the positive comments posted! I can't think of any fresh words to add, except that I've become a huge fan...and this song has become favorite 'running' song on my daily treadmill workout! Please post more drivin' rock like this one!!! :c)
