Description This is an old American folk song, which makes for a nice jazz tune. The melody was used by Elvis Presley for his song "Love Me Tender." I first got to know the song about 25 years ago, reading through the first volume of the "Readers Digest Family Songbook." The title sounds stuffy, but there are some great arrangement of some great old songs in that book.

This was the first collaboration between me and drummer drlaine. I have since tweaked the piano part, fixing the beginning, the ending, and also the middle. But the drum part is very solid. drlaine heard my piano/bass version of this, and e-mailed me to ask me, "Mind if I put drums to this?" I was happy to oblige. We have since collaborated on a number of tunes, and I hope to have my first CD out this summer, with drlaine drumming on many tracks.

Piano sounds come from Synthogy Ivory. Bass is mostly from Sonic Boom Box. drlaine is playing real drums.
Lyrics 1. As the blackbird in the spring
'neath the willow tree
sat and piped
I heard him sing
praising Aura Lee.
Aura Lee! Aura Lee! Maid of golden hair
sunshine came along with thee and swall-ows in the air.

2. Take my heart and take my ring
I give my all to thee
take me for eternity
dearest Aura Lee!
Aura Lee ! Aura Lee . . .

3. In her blush the rose was born
'twas music when she spoke
in her eyes
the light of morn
sparkling seemed to break.
Aura Lee! Aura Lee . . .

4. Aura Lee
the bird may flee the willow's golden hair
then the wintry winds may be blowing ev'rywhere.
Yet if thy blue eyes I see
gloom will soon depart
for to me
sweet Aura Lee is sunshine to the heart

Nice
Always loved Aura Lee, particularly the John Hartford
banjo driven version. This is a great rendition.

One of my favorite songs...
and I love what you have done with it. I love all your work I
have heard. I am new to macjams, and it seems everyday I
discover a new gem.

Beautiful work on the whole (although I am partial to the
piano myself)!
