Description Ok, here is my TUMi submission at long last. What started as “let me throw something together for the contest” turned into a small obsession over the past week or so. I decided to build as much of the song as I could from the loops, rather than just the minimum three required, so you’ll hear loops and pieces of loops throughout. I put a little MIDI bass line underneath for extra texture…but that and the vocals are the only non-loop bits in the song. The structure came together fairly quickly, but the small revisions and lyric writing became the monkeys on my back. I got a kick out of the experience of making this, so I hope you enjoy it.

Loops used:

TUMi-Rhodes Riff 1
TUMi-RockBeat7
TUMI-Rock Bass 1
TUMi-Guitar Melody 4
TUMi-Hi-Hats 1
TUMi-Horns Mellow 1
TUMi-Piano Riff 1
TUMi-Strings Mellow 3
Lyrics [ VERSE 1 ]

You can lie if you want to.
It's all right. There’s nothing left to say.
Paper smiles we both see right through.
But we know things just can’t carry on this way.

Nothing new on the way down
Here we stand with nowhere left to fall
Need to move, though we’ve forgotten how
There’s nothing left to give when you’ve already given all

[ CHORUS 1 ]

All the while we’re still pretending
Our final chapter has no ending.
Holding out for one last good excuse
(for hanging on)

Lost before we ever started
Alone though we had never parted
And now we find we simply have no use
For love’s version of the truth.

[ VERSE 2 ]

Pair of hearts nearly broken
Just can't bare the burden of this weight
Though the words go unspoken now
There's still time to run before the pressure gets to great.

Each as blind as the other.
Both resigned, though no one laying blame.
Thinking back to the way things were
We rewind, but still the story ends the same.

[ CHORUS 2 ]

Same test passed down throughout history
To solve the riddles of love’s mystery
But somehow we just couldn’t find the clues
(along the way)

Sailed a course we never charted
A lesson for the brokenhearted
But now we find we simply have no use
For love’s version of the truth.

Excellent!
It defintatley sounds like you took your time. Excellent lyrics and tight comp. Cool ending.

Way to go!

Excellent!
Thanks for the kind words! There are still things I hear that I would like to fix
when I listen to it, but that's pretty much the way it works I suppose...and the
reason I have so many other unfinished songs :)

These aren't the droids you're looking for.

A quick Fix
Very creative way to use these loops. Even better it
resulted in a new Blamm song- man, you work slow :)
-Always worth the wait, however!

A quick Fix
Hey!! Ha. You're too right. Honestly, it's not the pace I work at, but the
amount of time I can devote...a two and four-year old will do that to you.
Appreciate the comments....and I promise some new tunes soon (non-loop-
based, even).

Very well put together song. You're clearly a very
competent song writer. Good stuff.

Well put together.
I liked the arrangement and how you used the loops.

I can tell you spent a lot of time on this. I'm in the same boat with the kids, 2 and 5 months. I also have 2 jobs so when I find time to record or write, I sometimes rush through it. It sounds like you have a bit more patience.

Good work!

Great song!
You're jamming on just one chord, aren't you? Still it
doesn't sound monotonous at all. Very well done.

Great production too. It sounds very transparent. Curious
about your mixing/mastering tricks. (Feel free to email
me.)
