Description Well here it is for what it's worth. Thought I would go ahead and post something different. This is my first jazzier based attempt, so there are some issues, but what the hell I always manage to get bombed so I posted a little target practice. Plus there's a few people here that might get a kick out of this coming from me. Parts of the melody have been borrowed, you have to start somewhere, and the middle section has more of blues feel. How about that cheezy sax?
Hardware My typical set up is an iMac with Garage Band. I play a modified Fender Strat and Fender Precision Bass. To help modify the sound I run the Strat through a Cry Baby Wah Wah, Ibenez TS9DX Tube Screamer, Johnson J-Station Amp Modeler and Blue Tube Stereo Preamp. The bass is also modified by the J-Station.
Software: Garage Band & Logic Express 7

nice try...
That cheesy sax...is that a GB preset? Is it programmed to be playing a little behind the beat? lol...just kidding. I like the head melody and you're right I get a kick out of this. Is there a chorus effect on the guitar? I think a little cleaner might be better for Jazz, though maybe you're using a JC-120 amp model in the J-Station.
Can I use that title "Target Practice" for my next departure into an uncharted genre? That's funny... :)

Yes the sax is your standard tenor sax preset from GB with reverb added. The
J-Station is actually a clean Marshall setting with a little overdrive added from
Logic. Doesn't everyone think of Marshall amplification relating to jazz?

Nice Guitar Work
And regarding the cheesy s/w sax, it's cheaper than hiring
Kenny G. ;)

I always liked the oldschool...
Maybe I'm just an oldschool jazz man, but the beat seemed a little too much like a backdrop for a really sensual, dirty movie sequence when the girl comes out of the vehicle in slow motion, her dress flowing behind her and her hair all..... you know. But nice work :) I had to say good work with the guitar. Might try having more open chords in your guitar... say some more traditional jazz sequences... but that's just the oldschool coming out of me.

It's fine to be oldschool, at this point I'm just trying new ideas, different
beats, more colorful chords. We'll see what happens.

Hey!
Its great to hear some other genre from you.. I like this
very much..
I like the beginning, and the only thing about the sax is
that it is a bit loud over your guitar to start off with but as
the track moves along it seems to blend much better.
Nice arrangment and good production. I feel its a kinda
bluesy jazz number...

I like it as is....

Thanks everyone. I also thought the sax got the point across, rather than not
putting it in at all.

Very cool vintage jazz-blues
Nice tune, nice jazz--blues-rock melody and timing.
Love the bass. Did you play bass too? The sax is cool,
but maybe you played it with too much separation
between each note, not enough realistic articulations,
slurs, bends, and maybe Ilya could play it for real for you?
Love the blues soloing in the B section, and the way the
head comes back in. Nice vintage track.

fine
sounds a little empty, but i like your integrity. your experimenting with the melody and that's cool. pretty original compared to a lot of tunes on this site. i like the b flat tritone sound in the melody. it throws it of a bit ,but then you bring it back. sounds cool.
