A Subtle Build Up...
This sneaks up on you. Progressive dance track that
progressively adds a little more with each breath. The
recapitulation of the beach sounds is a pleasant surprize.
Then the beat just appears, as though washed up on the
shore. Each element has an isolation about it ... but
maintains a hold on the integrety of the entire track. Very
subtle... but I was expecting an OMD or Erasure driving
beat to appear. Very nice subliminal ending.

A Subtle Build Up...
A very good description of what lies beneath the lines. I decided to give as
little information as possible, but you already found a lot by listening to it
from a musicians perspective. Your comments are very appreciated. Thanks!

Not NIN... but just as good!
This is a very patient and detailed composition. Your various sampled elements are way cool and their placement is meticulous. Super-clear and crisp production! The piano part makes for a nice harmony/melody vehicle. Interesting how it almost changes traditional roles with percussion. At times the piano is like the floor and the samples/percussion are the "melodic" elements.

The loudness of the electronic bass drum sort of surprised me when it kicked in (sorry for the pun). The track was very ambient up to that point (the "intro" being longish) and had created sort of a false expectation for me. That's not really a criticism, but I don't know if it was something you intended. (7-10-7-8)

Thanks for your comments. This is a Progressive House track, so the bass
drum is the prominent driving element, right after the long intro. Songs like
this one are usually not played alone, they're woven into other songs by DJ's. I
don't have enough hard disk space and processing power right now for more
than one version, but ideally I would create a Trance, a House and perhaps an
Ambient version out of this. I'll have to wait for a couple of months until I can
even think of investing in an iMac G5 or something similar with enough horse
power. Right now everything I do in music is made on my Powerbook G4 12"
with only 512 MB of RAM and about 10 Gigs of hard disk space left.
Garageband usually stops playing back the song after I edit more than three
tracks, which makes the process of song production extremely inefficient and
frustrating at times.

I hear ya! Garageband had me banging my head against the table! I was
splitting songs into five or six different files just to get through a mix. I gotta
tell ya though, I just switched to Logic Express 7 and man what a difference!
LE7 affords me at least four times the processing punch, probably more. For
$300 its a lot cheaper than springing for a new Mac.

patience..
seems to pay off here. i really enjoyed how the
complexity grows as it moves along. really nice job of
building on top of the starting sounds & weaving it all
together-obviously a lot of thought went into this. my
criticism was going to be that it loses steam during the
last half, but your explanation that this is a house track
makes sense in this regard. this should be very
complimentary to the oncoming track. you might throw
some song art on this so it gets more rotation on MJ

Yeah, patience is right
This too too long to develop. The quiet into is nice, but
about 50% too long. Especially for a "dance" number.

Once it gets going it has a terrific layered quality. Dense
yet open. I like the melt away ending too. Tasty.

Not a fan of the percussion timbres at all. Way to
artificial, btu that's just my taste. But I still think this
would be much nicer with a more natural drum/
percussion track.

Yeah, patience is right
Well, go to the clubs and dive into progressive house, dude. :) You'll figure
out how this stuff works. It's not like a regular pop song which is about 4
minutes. A progressive house track is usually between 8 and 10 or even 12
minutes long. The long repetitive parts are required to give the DJ enough
space to layer the next song upon it, or letting the previous song fade out. A
good DJ lets you forget where one song starts and another one begins.

wonderful rhythm
I agree with the others' observations that this track has
very high production values. It has a very meticulous,
deliberate energy, sort of like creating a Japanese garden
with its carefully raked sand, judiciously placed pebbles,
artfully trimmed bonsai, and tasteful placement of
bubbling fountains.

I really like the rhythmic "displacement" you have created
with the percussion and piano, trading off the beat
emphases. Very nice.

As with all your tracks, a strong sense of innovation and
individuality shines through.

My only suggestion for this track would be to have even
more of a distinctive melodic "hook". The repeated piano
chords are heading in the right direction, but don't quite
achieve the hook, for me anyway. It's almost like there's
something missing.

But truly, I do not want to belittle the very positive aspects
of this well-done track. I enjoyed listening to it very much!

Chilled But Intense
I actually Love this track, yes I do think the intro is slightly
too long, but I like the sparseness of the beginning that
builds in and out with wonderful textures of sound.I love
the softness of the piano against the bass beat
Its a very precise track.. which means I think you spent a
while on arranging this. Great production and a good club
number.
Sounds great through headphones.
Love it!

Update
Thanks for all the comments. I have updated it with a few
changes:

- The bass drum doesn't appear before the snare drum
- The long intro is revived slightly by a breath-like
percussion pattern
- Some of the 'far piano' notes were corrected

It's there for me!
Really enjoyed listening to this composition. Well-crafted.
I have downloaded it to use as a soundtrack for my photos
in iPhoto.

Here we go again
Down-voter, where have you been? I was worried you
would oversee my song this time. Sure enough you picked
it up and made sure it goes down to 6. Happy
thanksgiving to you.

Peaceful
I am a little bit confused with the rythm : overall it's such
a peaceful piece, very relaxing and then there is this drum
that goes a little bit too fast to my taste.
I am puzzled with the sound of the sea in the middle. My
ears had replaced that from the intro with the piano bits.
It must have taken you a great amount of time to adjust
the production... very detailed.
Good job !
