Description I'm reposting this for Ian's Christmas pod-cast... this is a better mix than the previous version... the drums & percussion are more present and I've added flutes in the climax...
Lyrics OH COME OH COME EMMANUEL,
AND RANSOM CAPTIVE ISRAEL
WHO MORNS IN LONELY EXILE HERE.
UNTIL THE SON OF GOD APPEARS
REJOICE REJOICE EMMANUEL
WILL COME TO YOU OH ISRAEL

OH COME THOU WISDOM FROM ON HIGH
& ORDER ALL THINGS FAR & NIGH
TO US THE PATH OF KNOWLEDGE SHOW.
& CAUSE US IN HER WAYS TO GO
REJOICE REJOICE EMMANUEL
WILL COME TO YOU OH ISRAEL

OH COME DESIRE OF NATIONS BIND
ALL PEOPLE IN ONE HEART AND MIND
BID ENVEY STRIFE AND QUARREL CEASE,
AND FILL THE WHOLE WORLD
WITH HEAVENS PEACE
REJOICE REJOICE EMMANUEL
WILL COME TO YOU OH ISRAEL
REJOICE REJOICE EMANUEL
WILL COME TO YOU OH ISRAEL
WILL COME TO YOU OH ISRAEL
WILL COME TO YOU OH ISRAEL
WILL COME TO YOU OH ISRAEL

Oh yeah
A fantastic song Scott. I'm stunned over the vocal arrangements you do. Superb!

And you know so well how to keep it interesting, accentuate at the right places, powerful drums, and a tasty use of melodylines flowing through and holding it together.

A very good re-mix:)

Scott Carmichael said 40 days ago
thanx Thor
there are a few reasons that I stay @ MJ... you're one of them.. I went away after posting this so I'll try to catch up... I didn't expect alot of comments for a mix tweek.. so I'm a bit surprised.. I just didn't lke that other mix for the pod cast...

thanx my friend

thoddi said 39 days ago

Oh Come Emanuel
This is a huge and teremendous kinda work my friend ..
really one of your best work ...this reminds me of the
classic rockers of the 70s ..the synth keys the drums
and percussions really ..amazing ...yes you are one of
the best vocalist over MJ ..Kudos ..and thnx alot for
sharin such gem !!!!

Scott Carmichael said 40 days ago
Thanx Feter
I believe the DNA of the song sort of makes it epic right from the start... I can see how that transltes well in to that "classic rocker" lots of drama

sloparts said 42 days ago
Even more powerful
than the last take Scott. It's amazing how much power there is in this my friend. It's beautifully done and your vocals and harmonies are just awesome.

A wonderful Christmas gift, thank you

Ed

Scott Carmichael said 40 days ago
Ed thank you
for visiting... this is the exact mix that you'll find over at icomp... MJ is the first place that I post stuff... an allegiance that I have here... as I refine a mix I'll usually post it over there... I hate to clutter up my music page... but I didn't want the older mix on the pod-cast...

Merry Christmas to you and yours... you're a fine gentleman

Scott

Always a joy
Scott, thanks for the gift of a plussed version of this tune, though I'm not sure that it needed any plussing whatsoever. I recall being simply stunned at the production when you first debuted it. It has become a favorite in this household and we'll be including it in all our Christmas playlists.

Scott Carmichael said 40 days ago
Hi Bing
Merry Christmas... and long time!... even the updated version doesn't sit right in my ears... It sounds like sythns to me... and a bit nasal... It's always been more of a scketch... I really hear this with an orchestra.. still this acheives the BIGGNESS and DRAMA, that I invisioned..

I decided to do the work, and re-record everything in Logic.. so that I can replace all the parts with samples.. that way I can build an orchestra.... I don't remember exactly what I played... so I'm picking the old files apart and listening...

I may have to post one more time if it comes out well....

Wow....
I love the drama, suspense and power of your performance. Thanks for the re-post!

One Reason
that I love this song.. and have so many different versions recorded... is the way it captures the "Drama" of the human condition.. creation groans...

Scott Carmichael said 40 days ago
and
Thanx so much

Merry Christmas

I Don't
have enough words to say how fantastic this sounds. Those harmonies are to die for...... and the way you build them and the instrumental parts around.... just fantastic. Your sincerity shines throughout. Wonderful performance, Cheers M

Scott Carmichael said 40 days ago
thank you Maurice
I think those words worked quite well... I appreciate that...

Scott

pablatone said 41 days ago
Good one Brah,
You really put some pizazz into this. It's sure gone away from the melencholy feel this tune usually has. What a celebration you've made it! I may have to change my mind about Christmas carols.

Scott Carmichael said 40 days ago
I know
what you mean about Christmas carols... I lead music at church... and this time of year just about makes me choke... this song, on the other hand, I've always seen as more than a Christmas song... when I was playing live, I used to close the show with this song all year.. it allowed people to hear more in it...

still Christmas is my favorite pagan holiday...

smiling.... Scott

This is incredible. Perfectly placed and powerfully effective percussion. Your vocals are beautiful, wonderful harmonies. I love the feeling of movement from the underlying synths and percussion. An amazing offering, thank you!

thank you Shay
I appreciate your comments tremendously...

Merry Christmas

Powerful
You have performed this to reflect the power of the words. Often, when I sing this, I think of the desires and wishes of the singers. You do it with much more emphasis on the sure promises of God. The difference in viewpoint makes for a much more powerful song.
And, as usual your vocal performance is stunning, and the instrumentals are perfect.

Scott Carmichael said 40 days ago
funny Kristy
my singers have heard me say many times "you sang the words and notes right"... "But you missed everything else about this song" so we go back and focus on "what the song is about"... I do this routinely with them... so this comment means very much to me...

the end result is ending up with a body of work that the congregation conects with emotiomally..

Vic Holman said 41 days ago
awesome
man, this is big!

everything I expect from you, Scott.

I am so envious of your vocals. No one harmonizes as well as you do.

in this case... thanx Vic

Thanx Karen
sometimes arranging is real work... struggling to hear a true voice of any particular work... other times it's like following breadcrumbs home.. this one felt like I was along for the ride...

thanx again Karen

much appreciated

Thanks
for posting up the new version. The previous version is terrific so I can't wait to hear this one if the mix is even better. I'd like to thank Birdman Wayne for recommending this for the podcast show and the show should be ready in a week or two. This will definitely be a highlight.

Scott Carmichael said 38 days ago
And thank you Ian
I don't generally like to clutter up my page with double posts... but I really preferred this mix... and thanx to Yeman... I didn't know he was the culprit.. i will look forward to listening...

thanx again Ian

Always quality Scott
you really have this style down with high quality.

A great blessing to this site! Really some of the best here for sure!
Your blessed with such a terrific voice, but on an equal basis the sublime music to go with it. You got the works :)

Amazingly high quality pop spirituality !

Scott Carmichael said 38 days ago
Wow thanx Bill
I'm not sure what this style is on this one... we used to do this live... and I refered to it as "Sting does Christmas" I really appreciate the encouraging comments that you've left consistantly...

thank you

Scott

Unbelievable
You are an incredible singer and arranger. One of the best versions of this song that I have ever heard.

Scott Carmichael said 38 days ago
HI Mark
thank you... I always get a kick out of being known as a singer... it's just so unexpected... If we could sit in a room and play and sing together, I could dispell the myth very quickly... but I would SO enjoy it all the same

Very grand production. Suitable for Christmas CD!

Thanks

Scott Carmichael said 38 days ago
Thanx Bill
I'm sure I wouldn't have the patience... so many Christmas carol drive me nuts.. I lead the music at church and by the end of the holidays I'm so ready for December 26th... I'm the Grinch...

maybe that's why I prefer a dark and brooding version

peacepiano said 37 days ago
In the choir
LOL

I'm in the choir at my church, some of what we sing this time of year I could swear predates Christmas, or at least the lighter side of christmas.

HA! I'm so happy to be able to fav and tenbomb this one again! You don't know how many friends I've played the old mix for. Every time I want to show what a great place MJ can be, I pick it out to play ...

And yes .. this one has a clearer mix!
So beautiful!!!
I have not words enough.. the world is a richer place to be when this song exists!

Wonderful, Scott. Absolutely wonderful...

Roxylee said 37 days ago
Ooh, a remix
of a favorite Scot treated carol. isn't this the one you wrote when you were home from work because you were bedridden from flu or something? You amaze me with your ability to create such consistently excellent music. I love all the sounds in this.

Ejh said 37 days ago
And into...
...the office Christmas rotation she goes...

This is very big, very clean, and very powerful. I think Kristyjo is right on it when she notes that your version is about God's promise rather than the yearning of the singer(s)... THAT is a very astute comment...

Match this with a smaller, simpler song of the season, and you'd be well on your way to a heck of a Christmas CD...
