Description Girl Watching!

The office where I work has a large window and glass doors, that gives my art department a view of the street. This street has a variety of boutique shops (2 guitar shops, yea!). It gets a fair amount of foot traffic. There are some odd characters and then there are.......... well like I said...... girl watching!
Lyrics out of the blue (I'm watching you)

out of the blue, I saw you breathe the sky
sleep in a blue room until you close your eyes
everything is blue until you change your mind

she comes, she goes
someplace unknown
in rain, through snow
she has somewhere to go

chorus:
out of the blue (I'm watching you) it surrounds you
out of the blue (I'm watching you) it becomes you
and you wear it well

from this window I see everything
she follows the wind down the street
I can only imagine if we'll see her again

she comes, she goes
someplace unknown
in rain, through snow
she has somplace to go

chorus:
out of the blue (I'm watching you) it surrounds you
out of the blue (I'm watching you) it becomes you
and you wear it well

i can see the blue hanging over you
i can see the blue surrounding you

the clouds part to let the sun through
the light shines when she's dressed in blue
from this window I'm watching you

she stops she knows
she walks slow
she's got the look
she wants you to know

What can I say
Im always excited when I see a Vic post.
And this make my day TX Vic, back to the beer with your new tune in my headphones... Cheers

Vic Holman said 48 days ago
thanks Kenta
this is best with headphones and a beer!

egobandit said 48 days ago
Vic
sounds like a cool place to work are they hiring... guitar shops and girl watchin what more could you want... lettin it go in the bass department.. somecool changes and some very crazy cool leading !!!!!!!!

Vic Holman said 48 days ago
Thanks Tim
I've been working there for 17 years now. that says something. summer time is the best for gazing.

dajama said 48 days ago
I'm
with egobandit - I want to work there! Great song, Vic. The guitar sounds lovely (the acoustic is so crisp and clear!), and the vocal is excellent. Nice lyrics and a sweet performance. If there was one nit I'd pick, it'd be the chorus which sounds a bit crowded to my ears. But this does not detract from the song. Your consistency is remarkable. Great stuff. Very cool. Peace.

Vic Holman said 48 days ago
Thanks David
it would be cool to get a lot of MJer's there. I don't know if we would get much of the real work done though. One of the guitar shops is all vintage stuff. I did buy a ten year old taylor there. I really have to keep myself in check on that place.

Feter said 48 days ago
Out Of The Blue
WOW ...we are back the end of the 60s psychodelic era
heroic rock ...just dunno when you brought these genuine
Ideas ..really impressive song ..Kudos ....deep bow !!!!

Vic Holman said 47 days ago
Thanks Feter
since some of my songs are a bit psychedelic i figured I would go full steam ahead. I thought you might get off on this one

thanks for the listen!

LunaTrick said 48 days ago
So cool...
Reminds me of a band called Bevis Frond... great full sound and I love the way you did the vocals. Top notch Vic...

Vic Holman said 47 days ago
Thanks Daniel
I'll have to check that band out, i don't think i have heard of them.
I set up 4 or 5 vocal tracks some with a ensemble effect. and attempted to get a variety of vocal approaches going.

Thanks again!

pablatone said 48 days ago
sweeeet!
I kept wanting to crank this, but I kept getting "the look" from Cindy. There's so much tension in it that doesn't resolve till -i can see the blue...
Another very good tune Vic.

Vic Holman said 47 days ago
oh yes.....
.......... "the look". , you're suppose to say i only have eyes for you.
going through a few music gendres i thought would be interesting. i think that created the tension, like you said.

stacey said 48 days ago
Wow!
Hello! This is amazing! Thanks so much for making this downloadable!

Vic Holman said 47 days ago
thanks Stacey
i really appreciate you giving this a listen, thank you.

lavalamp said 48 days ago
Sunday morning listening
I was just cleaning my kitchen and rocking out to this. Great post Vic. The solo was brilliant. 2 guitar shops, eh. Cool.

This is one of your best because you seem free on this.

VIC UNCHAINED.

Dave

Vic Holman said 47 days ago
Thanks Dave
nothing like a wah and some slidy fingers for a solo. I really wanted this to go through a lot of changes, and to push myself as well.

the vintage guitar shop has some cool stuff. some affordable, some not. like a '53 tele for $18,000.

ted23 said 48 days ago
great
great song and excellent subject!
Love this tune and that solo is just evil!
So well balanced and your vocal is spot on and i particularly like the whispy feel, has a certain dreamy quality in places.
This is brilliant!
... I'm off to write a song about the view from my window at work.... Its called the brickwall and the pigeon :)

Thanks

Vic Holman said 47 days ago
another...
...brick in the wall. i think i got the better view. lol
i did originally had another chorus section near the end that had a different solo over that. but it didn't sound as intense so i took it it out.

thanks for the listen and keep an eye out on that pigeon, he could be plotting something

jiguma said 48 days ago
Another cool song ..
.. from the fifth Beatle. Some interesting rhythmic tension between the bass and the kit, great guits and another unique vocal.

Nice oe Vic,

Neil

Vic Holman said 46 days ago
Thanks Neil
it's all about the magical mystery tour of girls.

we have a giant pencil outside the window that some gals like to take pictures of each other in front of it. we like that veery much!

Pete_NB said 42 days ago
Pencil Technique
I have to get me one of those pencils.

Cool tune, as usual. Way to work the wah!

DWL said 48 days ago
Amazing work !
Clever changes in textures and excellent lyrics.

Fine work on guitar as always.

Cheers

Dick

Vic Holman said 46 days ago
Thanks Dick
I wanted to mix it up as much as possible, yet keep it coherent. textures is a good way of putting it.

Thanks again, wonderful new tune of yours.

lengold said 48 days ago
I've been waiting
for a reason - you're fired!
The Boss

Great idea for a song, excellent lyrics, vocals. Stellar musicianship and production.
Cheers
Len

Vic Holman said 46 days ago
Thanks Len
But they can't fire me. I'm the vice president, impeach yes, fire no

Thanks again

TG said 47 days ago
Not sure how you do it
...but you do it every time, great song, great production, The V.H greatest hits would probably be a three volume set, so much good stuff

Vic Holman said 46 days ago
Thanks Tom
lots of songs over the years. I'm just now going back and remastering quite a few. then i have no idea what i'm going to do with them.

voyuer
true, there is not much better than a pretty girl on a city street - cool concept - although it seems there is an ominous overtone...what's that girl's deal? Is she here to tell us the earth will stand still? I get the idea she's otherwordly, and not in a good way lol.

love the break! 70's metal band backing Reeves Gabrels. Cool!

Vic Holman said 46 days ago
we all like to look
we can see out but they can't see in. so in a way it is voyuerism...... but we wave.

thoddi said 46 days ago
Psychedelic or not
It still has that distinct Holman sound:)

The cool guitar sound, the characteristic vocals, and tight groove.

I think I notice a slight energy battle in second verse (she comes, she goes ...) and in the chorus. Meaning that the drums works in their own pace and you seem to want them to push a little faster at those places, but they refuse to work with you;)

It's something I have noticed when I work with drumloops, unlike a live drummer. They just won't follow if I'd like to push the tempo a little...

It's enjoyable watching people passing by... sitting waiting at airports, at a cafe or of course through the window at work... Cool lyrics.

Vic Holman said 46 days ago
Thanks Thor
we see interesting things go on. there are regulars that we have nicknames for.
I now hear what you mean on the parts. I do play the drums via the keyboard. i was just keeping the beat at the time. I think I need to go back in and readjust the pattern a bit. nice catch.

michael2 said 46 days ago
cool
how did i miss this? damn this new "10 songs on the front page at a time"
thing we got going. this sounds awesome dude, I like the ending so much more now the on the version you let me preview. that delay at the end is sick, what was that? doesn't sound like anything i've come across in Logic. as always, you are just a sick sick puppy. great track.

Vic Holman said 46 days ago
Thanks Michael
thanks for the feedback.
I cut out the end chorus with the solo. and put back the original end that i originally had. When you said reverb tail. I thought alrighty then. I also changed out a few other things from what you had heard.

what i did to create that i bounced a bar at the end (aiff file) brought it back in on another new track and added echo (with some parameter changes and a bit of a delay designer plug in. i don't know if that is included with express or not.

I saw you breathe the sky...
beautiful image... : ) So...... A voyeuristic magical mystery tour of women - kinda like construction workers meets the one way glass of a police dept. interrogation room on "Law & Order"... Ha! Ha! Or as Amagi once joked, "It's the ___ ___, isn't it, Vic." : ) If I had to make an analogy, mens necks are like those little swivel hooks on fishing lines, but you have an artists eye as well - a more in depth appreciation of line and form. Time to go outside with your sketch pad, stand near the big pencil and offer to immortalize a few of those visions of loveliness, sign your work and exchange #'s. : ) Bring along one of those $18,000.00 guitars, play them one of your great songs --- "hook, line, & sinker. : ) Forgive my silly mood tonight. Be Well. : )

Vic Holman said 44 days ago
Thanks T.
One of the most intelligent men i had worked with years ago stated that men are voyeurs and women are exhibitionists. In a lot of ways that is probably true.

sketch pad, huh? portraits by the pencil, $10. to see this pencil go to quinngroup.com. it's been artsied up but it's the one

Doadars Uncle said 44 days ago
Nice!
Love the sound! Tense...

Oh yes, she knows...

Great guitar. I always like your vocal presentations!

Vic Holman said 44 days ago
thanks Doug
of course she knows, maybe we should put a sign in the window don't encourage or feed the animals

bud said 44 days ago
I'm left kinda speechless
this is moving me all over the place. Great bass playing and then along come the killer guitars of mind bending power. But mostly what gets me on tis one is the open composition feel - less verse/chorus/verse and more long strange trip. Nice use of acoustic guitar too.

Vic Holman said 44 days ago
Thank Kevin
i was thinking how could i cover different gendre styles and yet keep it cohesive. this is what came about. the concept is something that has been hanging around in my head for awhile

guitapick said 44 days ago
Great tune, Vic...
...bass and rhythm guitar work great together...smokin' lady, there...sweet tune...mindbender...

Vic Holman said 44 days ago
Thanks Bob
I saw your performance on the satellite feed. great job. and who would of ever thought that you would be able to see a few MJers live a few thousand miles away.

Scott Carmichael said 44 days ago
Sheesh Vic
As prolific as you've been in these few years... i'd expect you to find a rut to spend a little time... in like the rest of us...

instead... you post this... my favorite song you've written to date...

"i saw you breath the sky" what a moment!!!... you've turned girl watching into an etherial smorgasbord

Vic Holman said 44 days ago
Thanks Scott
the concept of going through different changes has been in the back of my head for several years. it took this long to finally break out of that mental rut.

summertime is the best time for viewing pleasure. a lot nicer then staring at the monitor for hours on end.

ledebutant said 43 days ago
Me Too
I want to work there, too. Mostly because I want to watch the MJ crew girlwatch and giggle behind my desk. :-) I'd also love to watch you draw sometime, Vic. I love this song art, especially.

Great tone on the lead guitar. It's a sound I think of when I think of your music. I love the match of the psychedelic with the daydreamy subject matter of the song. Another big winner and the way you're working the dynamics is awesome! The echo out at the end is one of my favorite parts. D/L for sure.

Vic Holman said 42 days ago
Thanks Lisa
ha ha! I'm sure you would get a lot of laughs from this crowd. heck, it's a good place with just the regular people there.

I spend close to an hour trying to find and adjust the right reverb effect at the end. a regular reverb tail, that i originally had sounded weak.

thanks again Lisa

hooray!
A new Vic song with creepy sounds about girl watching. Fantastic. I love how this turns corners so abruptly. I love 1940's pinup girls. I also love the Paranoid Android solo!

Vic Holman said 40 days ago
thanks Eric
i thought it should be a little creepy for the spying effect. after i did the solo section. i started thinking is it paranoid android? so i had to listen carefully to that. luckily it's different enough. i almost thought i was going to have to take it out.

echoroom said 39 days ago
Watching you
Typically STUNNING production from you, and a great little rocking track.

As someone who doesnt actually get to see many women these days, I totally identified with this.

Off to have a cold shower now ....

Vic Holman said 39 days ago
Thanks Steve
Yes, looky... but no touchy, feely.
even then you might get "the eye"

Macaudion said 35 days ago
Definitely a pschy moment
You're an excellent writer Vic. Don't know if I've ever acknowledged that but it's always the first thing that comes to mind even before I depress the play button. I'm knowing ahead of time, that the performance and mix of things is gonna be dead on. Especially the vocal work; it's always an interesting array of textures and color. I feel kinda silly mentioning things like how well your g'tar, bass, synth and, just the overall composition tends to be Intricate, complex, and quite well thought out. Interesting, to say the least. It'd be like walking up to a "Sting" or someone of this caliber and expressing these sorts of compliments, things they've heard a million times over, and me walking away and sensing that inside, you're rolling your eyes and thinking, "yeah..., right..., thanks..., can I get a light...

Well, there you have it... Regardless..., thanks for your efforts! And thanks for the free grabs.

Dion

Vic Holman said 35 days ago
thanks Dion
this is one of those songs that is really geared for headphones. I was always into the artists like Todd Rundgren who would weave in layers and always thought I wish i could do that someday. ...I'm still wishing.

Bob Rodgers said 32 days ago
Another
excellent song Vic, superb vocals and a great production!

I still don't know how you do it, you write great songs one after the other very quickly!

Really enjoyed this, thanks!

Bob

Vic Holman said 30 days ago
Thanks Bob
I figured I would go up a notch with the psychedelic approach.... more then normal.

Thanks again Bob, I appreciate the listen.
