Description Michael 2 had sent me his files for Stella Too and was wondering if I would like to play around with it. Well yeah!
Michael's original was a acoustic version that he posted back in July.

So I did a re-mix of the tune and added an additional 3 guitar tracks.

Thanks Michael for letting me play around with excellent tune.
Lyrics you won't say where you've been
but everybody knows
you've been out with him

there's a little girl at home
but you dropped out of school
so you could work at night

Chorus:
you're life isn't going
how you thought it would
i hope that
you don't make the same mistakes i did
it's time to figure out
exactly what to do with you
and Stella too

your boy is finally home
a mustache on his face
so you kicked him to the curb

you got lots of bills to pay
childcare ain't cheap
what you gonna do?

Chorus:
you're life isn't going
how you thought it would
i hope that
you don't make the same mistakes i did
it's time to figure out
exactly what to do with you
and Stella too

what's your angle?
are you looking for attention?
you're not stupid
but i'm beginning to wonder
it's time to figure
out exactly what to do about
Stella too

Great collab guys... I just have to say I LOVE IT... TX

Vic Holman said 53 days ago
Thanks Kenta
i was a bit surprised when Michael asked me if I wanted to play around on his excellent tune

lavalamp said 54 days ago
Beautiful
This makes me happy to part of this MJ family. I liked this a lot when M2 did it. But, with Vic, it sounds even more sensational. Fantastic guitar work. Did I mention Elliott Smith on your original? I wonder.

Awesome piece of songwriting.

Dave

Vic Holman said 53 days ago
Hey Dave
when Michael sent me the files and i opened it up my first reply was "are you sure?" It is such a great song as he had it.

funny thing, i played this for two different people at work today and they both said 'Elliot Smith'

lavalamp said 52 days ago

See?, I've got a good ear. lol

Great
I dug it before, I seriously love it now. Wonderful production of a great tune. Better than the junk on the radio. Bravo.

Vic Holman said 53 days ago
better then junk on the radio...
...now that would make a cool band name.

I'm pretty surprised that Michael asked me to do something with his song.
I guess that's just the cool guy that he is.

regulus said 54 days ago
This is
soooooo professional it hit me as a song right out of the sixties early 70's ala SimonGarfunk.

There are no rules in Love, War and Music.

This is so clean and balances it takes me back to Hollywood and the Love In's. Thanks for the trip back to a golden age. Had you been there then you would have been a superstar, not that your not here now.

Love it, gonna take it home with me.

Vic Holman said 53 days ago
originally
on Michaels original he mentioned that he had a bit of a Loggins and Messina influence. So when i remixed his harmony vocals i wanted them to have some of that quality that was in fashion back in those days.

thanks for the listen. very much appreciated

Ejh said 54 days ago
Want...to...vote...
What a cool blend of the Vic and the Michael...

Poppy, spangly, bopping along... More than a touch of Big Star in this one..

That would be a GOOD thing...

Ed

Vic Holman said 53 days ago
Hi Ed
I got the files friday night. Michael mentioned it as a pop song. So Sat. morning i brought out my epiphone dot semi hollowbody for that cool jangle sound and went for it. I think he tried to throw me off. he recorded his parts in a Eb key.

Ejh said 51 days ago
Eb?
You did tell him you're a GUITARIST, right?

That's so wrong....

Ed

Vic Holman said 51 days ago
lucky for me
is that when i was learning to play guitar to hendrix records, i was in standard tuning, and hendrix played a step down. no one ever told me you could tune down. so it came in handy after all.

segiperkasa said 54 days ago

Awesome song..... cool stuff...

Vic Holman said 53 days ago
thanks very much
we appreciate the listen!

Brilliant song
wonderful vocals, great lyrics and excellent musicianship.

Lost for words and in awe :-)

Cheers

Vic Holman said 52 days ago
Thanks Dick
I'm glad that Michael gave a chance to play around with this. I tried to stay as a sideman and operate the shiny buttons.

dolby said 53 days ago
Love...
...the harmony vocals especially - just wonderful.

If I'm allowed a (tiny, weeny) little bit of criticism I would suggest that there is just a bit too much guitar in this - you're playing some wonderful, interesting lines and some sterling countermelodies, but I feel it could breath a little more often, maybe drop the guitar out in places, bring it back as an accent (aww, you get the idea!) etc etc

Enjoyed -
Phil

Vic Holman said 52 days ago
Thanks Phil
i see what you're saying. there may of been a few spots i may of done differently. it's always after the fact, huh?

lengold said 53 days ago
Wonderful sounds
...this just sounds so Beatleish to me - great harmonies and lovely music and mix.
Cheers
Len

Vic Holman said 52 days ago
Thanks Len
beatlish is what i thought. so i used a semihollow body electric to get that early g. harrison sound to brighten it up some. In the remix i wanted Michaels vocal harmonies to really shine.

tempie said 53 days ago
stella
really really wonderful. the acoustic guitar is fantastic and of course the composition is great as expected but the very best thing about this tune is that it's a complete joy to listen to. thanks!

Vic Holman said 52 days ago
whats cool
is that there are now 3 versions of this song. It's interesting how all three can be a bit different.

I'm glad you appreciated the song.

MarkHolbrook said 53 days ago
Wow
I love the deep guitars left/right. Personally I'm not too fond of the lead. I could have used more deep soulful lead. Just me probably.

Still the guitars, vocals are as expected amazing.

Wonderful guys! Thanks!

Vic Holman said 52 days ago
Thanks Mark
this was pretty spontanious for me. once i learned the song and figured what i was going to do. i want for a real clean sound, including the lead. thinking about it now i probably could of had double tracked the lead, switch to the neck pickup to fatten it up.

Karmatoburn said 53 days ago
two stella's
and I luv em both. Just migrated from listening to Mr. Bouchards version, and Mj continues to amaze me at the wealth of talent. Totally dig those guitars. Great upbeat vibe. Did you layer in some vox as well?

Vic Holman said 51 days ago
three stellas
there are actually three stellas. Michael originally released a acoustic version. I was surprised that he asked Jim and I to play around with it. Michael did all the vocals. they're great harmonies that I wanted to really bring out.

michael2 said 53 days ago
wow vic
i just realized i hadn't given a public commendation to you. great work on this one. i know it must have been rough as I gave out such a sloppy file, the guitar was tuned to god knows what with a capo on an un-remembered fret, and other odd little things. always love what you do and projects with you are a blast. thanks.

Vic Holman said 51 days ago
thanks dude
for letting me play around. even though it was in a flat key (icouldn't tell if you tuned up or down) for some reason i latched on to this pretty quick.

i kept "asking are you sure?" to have me play on it. I'm glad I did. as i enjoyed it.

Feter said 53 days ago
Stella Too
YEAH the heart of the classical 60s ..and particularly
beatlish vibes ...what a wonderful colab bros ..Michael
voice is just fit right like any of his ..good job Vic
with the new setting and guitars ...its just a classic
colab ...deepest bow !!!!

Vic Holman said 51 days ago
thank you Feter
I thought it would be cool to use a semi hollowbody guitar to get that early Beatle clean sound. It's always a pleasure to be able to play on a M2 song

egobandit said 53 days ago

...this tune. And you've done a great job with it, Vic. So fine.

Vic Holman said 50 days ago
Thanks Bob
i was a bit surprised that Michael asked to work on his tune. I thought his original was fantastic as was. i had fun with this one

mvh9591 said 53 days ago
Sounds great_____
Love the vocal harmony. Nice mix. Enjoyed.

Thanks for sharing,

mvh : )

Vic Holman said 50 days ago
vocals
Michael does great harmonies. i wanted to make those shine in this mix.
you don't come across many great songwriters any more. I'm glad he's here.

12parsecs said 52 days ago
upbeat
i'm digging the reworks of michael's tune! this version (i listened to jim's version earlier) has some great guitar work and, the thing i dig the most, is the beat. totally changes up the feel. more upbeat and, dare i say, cheerful? kinda cool juxtaposed against the heavier lyrics.

Vic Holman said 50 days ago
upbeat
true a heavy message, but when I hear Michael's acoustic it has a upbeat feel. so, i thought why not take it up a notch and give it a bit of a early beatlish flavor.

Trillian said 52 days ago
Wonderful Song
and I love the lyrics. Children don't ask to be born. You are responsible for the life you create no matter how things work out in other areas of your life. Is that your artwork again? Mother & Child - it is beautiful. : )

Social Services
Michael is a social worker and I'm sure he's seen quite a bit. i knew someone quite well that worked at a crisis nursery. to many sad situations happen.

the art was something that Michael had on his original posting. I stole it. shhh

dajama said 52 days ago
Excellent
This is a great song, and your work on it only adds to it. Excellent stuff. You really add lovely sparkle with the guitar work. A great combination of elements. Nicely done. Peace.

Vic Holman said 50 days ago
Thanks David
originally i thought i would be working on this over several days. but i got so into the swing of it, it ended up being only a couple of hours.

magnatone said 51 days ago

What a WONDERFUL collab you guys. Love your additions here Vic - I always know it'll be great when I see your name!

Vic Holman said 50 days ago
Thanks Karen
I think this is the sixth collab I've done with Michael. hey, that's practically an EP.

bud said 51 days ago
A great song gets better
ain't that the beauty of this place. Excellent collab gents and Vic, your production and additions are wonderful.

Vic Holman said 50 days ago
Thanks Kevin
true, when i first joined I never thought in a million years that collab projects was even thinkable. ah, the computer age

Bob Rodgers said 50 days ago
This is
brilliant, excellent collab and has to be one of my favourites!
Very strong Beatle sound on this and and it's really great Vic to hear you playing your semihollow body electric to get that Harrison sound!

Vocals and harmonies are superb!

Loved it, great stuff!

Most impressive
i love the 60s sound that just washes into the brain and takes ypu back to the days of vinyl and carefree times.

Harmonies are spot on - wish it was longer, tho'

Vic Holman said 48 days ago
thanks re-al
60's is the new '08.

of course the songs were shorter back then. it does fly by pretty fast.

jiguma said 49 days ago
George meets Paul
Cool tune - I agree with Phil that there's maybe a bit too much George in places, but the production, playing and song quality kind of mean it doesn't really matter.

Like it a lot!

Neil

Vic Holman said 48 days ago
Thanks Neil
I've been waiting for a while to do a early beatle clean guitar sound. Michael's song was the perfect vehicle.

I don't know how you guys do it, one good song after another in short order, *sheesh*

Vic Holman said 48 days ago
Thanks Harold
"Meet The Songbots"

Songbots........ that's a cool new word.

that would make for a cool idea. Devo does early 60's pop.

Rocha Malhada said 48 days ago
I think Michael
got it started in "Sapience (No Codes, Can't Send Notes)"

echoroom said 48 days ago
Sweet
2 towering talents - how could this not be aces?? Really lovely vocals on this, and lovely ringing guitars - another winner guys. Oh, and lyrics i woulda killed to write.
