Description This about a job I did last week on Clayton St. in San Francisco Calif. Most of my work is in Frisco. But something unusual happened. So I thought I would sing about it.
Lyrics Now I am a tile setter and often I don’t like anything better than to do a great job and be on my merry way.
It was a job in ole Frisco, I knew I had to go and pay those over do bills and work to the end of the day.
----------
The owner this 91 year old gal, treating my like a pal. Shows me all her clay sculptures she made.

Each one she’d worked a hundred hours or more, closely lookin nearly hit the floor, all had great color, were such high grade.
-----------------------
So we went downstairs to look at another job, had the feeling that I had been robbed, I’d lost truck my keys, I was anything but contrite.

So she shows me all around, had me set a cactus planter on the ground. Plus more sculpures I spotted to her delight.
------------------------------
I thought I would have to call my son, that thought was not a lot of fun. He would have to come from a different county.

Frantically searchin so throughly in depth, I felt so inept, those dang keys I thought I would have call D og to put on a bounty.--------------------------------
So this gal who is Lilly , loosing those keys I felt so silly, had me proceed to the kitchen for that tile repair

But I told her older brother, who was like a kind and nurturing mother, my keys were lost, he knew I was in deep despair.
----------------------------

So frantically looked around, in my tools and on the ground for any hint of were they might be.

finshed the job to the owners delight, still my heart was full of fright, the keys were gone I felt like a sailor drowning at sea.
-------------------------------
Lillies brother walked with me to the door then I gazed at my truck keys in the planter by the floor, felt like Noah after the flood seeing that welcomed dove.

He said he prayed earlier to his patron saint this made my heart nearly faint , he had such dedication and love.
------------------------------
I went in to do them a job while at the time felt I had I had been robbed But in the end Oh what a mighty blessin.

So now I can go on my merry way to another job another day. But this one was sure great I’m confessin !

Really exciting story telling!
Really exciting story telling song!
It has such a genuine folky touch.
Performance and the recording is really well done too.
Cool guitar handling!

You obviously have a gift for story telling poetry,
would be nice to hear more of it!
(... maybe you already have more, I have been quite absent from MJ latest year so I've missed a lot)...

This
is so much fun. Lovely guitar work as ever, and the lyrics are excellent. Made me think of Arlo Guthrie. Funny and charming. Nicely done. Peace.

Songs of everyday life
A universal theme (the anxiety of lost keys, something we can all relate to) told in a fresh way. It has a "talking blues" feel to it. It's poetic, yet it seems casually conversational. Very nicely done.

How far south will ya go?
We was wunderin ifin yall do sum tile work in say Diamond Vally (iss jus a couple hunnerd miles south of Frisco)? Uhhhh... not that me 'n my missus have any place needin tilin, we jus thought it'd be fun to hear ya do some pickin 'n grinnin. An if ya tile half as good as ya play that geetar, we mite jus have ya do a work of art in our bathroom or sumthin.

Well I'll probly get yelled at by some feller at MJ for solicitin on line, so lemee jus leav it that we liked yer latest. Thanks.

Wonderful story, Bill
in the true folk tradition. Thank you for writing and sharing this little adventure with us. I can just picture you, worrying all during the tiling job, wondering what you were gonna do when it was time to leave, then your relief at looking down to see your keys. Great playing, as always, and Lily is the blessed one, because she called you instead of some second rate tiler! :-)
