Keywords Pixies rip-off band (2)lavalamp (41)The Lavalamps of Hippie Death (1)david armbruster (32)
Description Although I posted one for the CBGB's Demo Challenge (I Can't See Your Face) http://www.macjams.com/song/42431
The Lavalamps of Hippie Death want me to post their B-side for the challenge. So, under protest I will post this.

This was actually recorded in a 2004 Pro Tools session that I have mentioned on some of my other posts. I have very little to do with the production. I just thought it was kind of a fun song. I was in my Pixies mode here.

Enjoy!
Lyrics Hey You!

Hey You! You ought to know better
Talking 'bout the weather is boring, baby

Hey You! You wanna' know a thing
I didn't mean to bring you so far down

Hey You! Hey You!

Hey You! You could've just forgotten
Everything's gone rotten since you blocked out the sun

Hey You! Won't you come out the dark
I can't see the point you are trying to make

Hey You! Hey You!

Hey You! You ought to know better
Talking 'bout the weather is boring, baby

Hey You! You wanna' know a thing
I didn't mean to bring you so far down

hippie death
cool one Dave.

I'm glad you brought this out.

4 years can get lonely sitting on a hard drive.

despite your protest, this is a cool tune and needed to be unleashed to the masses

lavalamp said 68 days ago
Right
I couldn't let this thing just collect dust here on my hard drive. I might post a few more from this session. Maybe, on rainy days when I'm between projects. LIKE NOW.

Thanks Vic,

Dave

punk
Im still a punk... I was there and lived it (for a few years). I still act it out sometimes. I really liked the song. I know you didnt have anything to do with the mix. But it sounded like the mics where in the other room. But that kinda of added to the feel and genre.

lavalamp said 68 days ago
Yeah I know
I did run this through GB and added a little bass on the EQ. There was no "real" bass used either.

Thanks for stopping by. (I don't remember how it was mic'd.)

tempie said 67 days ago
anything but boring, baby
Rhythm and lead does evoke the pixies but you out "pop" the pixies. Also, it's impossible to be a pixies rip off, since the pixies are a rip off band themselves, and would probably admit as much. So now we're down to the fact that this is just a cool and breezy pop rock tune that would have been right at home on mid 80's radio. And don't be offended by this since i'm not one of those people that thinks some musicians are "real" and others not - i have to say that I was listening to some old Rick Springfield over the wknd and this tune would have fit right in on that first quality record of his...

lavalamp said 67 days ago
Rick Springfield ?
Was he so rockin'?

Thanks a bunch for commenting. I love the Pixies. Every band was and is a rip-off band in some way.

Thanks for stopping by.

awesome
sounds like a lost demo from a favorite band. really like this, dave. especially that little hook. great song. got anymore?

lavalamp said 67 days ago
Thanks Ridd
It would have been a shame to just leave this on my hard drive collecting dust. Glad you could appreciate it.

Really enjoyed
this Dave - everyone saying punk - but I thought it was a great catchy pop song. A little like a heavier Ray Davies song. Loved it.
Cheers

hey you
Can't wait to get home and put this on my ipod. Top tune! Your Pixies mode suits you well. The chorus-y lead is very delicious. And that ending is lights out.
