Description
My wife inspired these words after a shitty gig last week....
Lyrics
YOU ARE AN ISLAND.
You are an island
That’s what my baby says when I get outa hand.
She looks me in the eye try to make me understand
You are an island!
She says….
When you get on that stage you metamorphasise
Into someone I don’t know.
And when you drink that whiskey and over verbalise
You can’t come down from the show.
You gotta have it all your way
No time for anyone to say.
What you oughta be just to earn some pay
Y’don’t separate what’s work from play.
And I say….YES….
I am an island
Surrounded by a sea of mediocrity
Soul-less fools without heart or alacrity
So yes….I am an island!
And it’s always been the same
Give or take one or two
Of the true-hearted soldiers
Now buried in my past….
Don’t care too much for what’s left in my hand
As far as I’m concerned I’ve broken up the band.
Play to myself and drink ‘til I can barely stand
One day she’ll say to me….I think I understand….
You are an island
Surrounded my a sea of mediocrity.
Soul-less fools without heart or alacrity
You are an island.

Excellent
Great stuff; this is one of your best. The guitars sound great (love that acoustic moving the whole thing along) and the lead is really sweet. But the key to the brilliance of this song is the lyrics and the vocal performance. You paint an evocative and gritty picture, and sing it with great gusto and feeling. Outstanding stuff. Nicely done, man. Peace.

Very good one
Reminds me of Petty, which is a compliment. Very nice structure. Would sound very cool LIVE.

I hear you buddy
We musicians get a little hard on ourselves. I need to lighten up a bit and have a good time when playing. Let's not be soooo serious. Thanks for sharing
