Description What the hell, I had to put the explicit tag on this, so sue me, I say shit a couple times. I just don't think it's all that explicit, it's just the word the song demanded I write. Sorry if it offends anybody.

I wrote the words a while back and wrote the music and recorded most of this in GB a little less of a while back, maybe 3 years ago or so, and I recently pulled it out of mothballs and remixed that recording, replacing the drums and adding some wacky percussion stuff and an organ part and re-sang the vocal and polished it up some in Logic and here goes nothin'. I think I got the idea for my other song Comfortable Rut from this song. Sort of a shorter song for me, and I resisted the urge to extend it pretty well, I think.

Not that I've had such a hard life, but I've had my share of ups and downs.
Lyrics It Is What It Is

It is what it is, it’s never been less
as full as it is it’s too easy to forget
How it seeks its own level, finds its own course
How it always finds a way back to the source
and if this life seems hard to the untrained eye
when you see the bigger picture it’s an easy ride
a little wild and always complicated
it’s not any safer the longer you’ve waited
you've got to
Jump in with both feet and roll up your sleeves
Wipe off that shit-eating grin
Time to go round again
I don’t look back much now, I’m pretty content
If I look back it’s just to wonder where the time’s went
But the past is hazy and I haven’t got a clue
In the end it doesn’t matter I know what I want to do

I am what I am I can’t help but be
for all I’ve been through it’s justifiably
Though sometimes it seemed more than a little grim
I guess its somethin I had to go through then
So I don’t mind now not one little bit
I wouldn’t turn back time to wade through all that old shit
and if it looks like a rut, it feels more like a groove
Sometimes I’m so happy I can hardly move
so I
Jump in with both feet and roll up my sleeves
Wipe off that shit-eating grin
and wind up to go round again
I don’t look back much now, I’m pretty content
If I look back it’s just to wonder where the time’s went
But the past is hazy and I haven’t got a clue
In the end it doesn’t matter I know what I want to do
Hardware Yamaha 12 string, probably the Squire bass, Kurzweil KME-61

Cool
Lot's of spirit in this one! High energy bursting out with words and music. Love the organ and thought it should be hotter in the mix. This is definitely a wordsmith/vocal tune but the backing could have been louder or the voice softer. Otherwise it is a delightful tune reminding me of the 60's folk rock of Dylan and Paul Simon.

This has really
great lyrics. Some really good lines (my favorite: "if it looks like a rut, it feels more like a groove"), and the delivery gives it terrific urgency. Nice use of percussion, and great energy. Glad you decided to go back to this one. A very cool track. Nicely done. Peace.
