Description I was lurking in the forums this afternoon, and Michael Wark had made a post about not being able to use the messaging system here at MJ. Of course the whole thing degenerated into a bunch of us making jokes about completely unrelated topics. In the spirit of that post, I have written this song. It is as performed by a robot named Sapience who pilots an exploratory space ship through the celestial realm. His co-pilot M1 has unexpectedly died, leaving our hero alone to deal with his unexpected feelings of loss and mourning. Sapience is not a musician, but being of the latest generation of artificial intelligence, he was able to cobble this together with onboard software that was loaded in him for M1's amusement. Also worth mentioning is the fact that since Sapience is 10,000 light years away, no one will ever actually be able to hear his song.

I generally will not write a song about technology (especially since even with such a sophisticated piece of software like Logic, my songs still sound like the amateur hour), but the joke was getting pretty good and I wanted to kick it up a notch.

Here is the thread that inspired this affair:
http//www.macjams.com/...
Lyrics my masters dead
i'm all alone
10,000 light years
from what he said was home

my systems slowing down
fragmentation takes it's toll
stranger still
i've no one but myself

no codes, can't send notes
no codes, can't send notes
no codes, can't send notes
no codes, can't send notes

he aged in increments
got cold and still
my circuits sensed
a disturbance in his code

i ran the algorithms
and swarm intelligence
emerging from my core
was an unseemly sense of loss

no codes, can't send notes
no codes, can't send notes
no codes, can't send notes
no codes, can't send notes

i'm alone
i'm alone
i'm alone....

no codes, can't send notes
no codes, can't send notes
no codes, can't send notes
no codes, can't send notes

well
thank you very much. i couldn't resist. i should have sampled Serge and manipulated his voice into a robot.

yrp said 72 days ago
Hey!
This is very impressive for a something written out on a spot.
I always try to find a parameter to compare somebody elses music but this time I will keep the babbling to myself and only say I liked it very much.
let me just add that this would be even more beautifully weird if you manage to insert some "Conet Project" samples...

The mind is a terrible thing Michael
But every once in a while it will do amazing things. the whole scenario is believable, to a point, and I can see poor lonely Sapience sitting in his charging station wondering what to do now. His programming isn't designed to understand "feeling"

Oh well, you did a great job of giving Sapience a voice my friend. A strange be endearing bit of fantasy Michael, Bravo

Be well and be cool,

Ed

jaw-dropped bow
That's amazing... see, I told you that you could whip out a whole song before I drop a single note on the page. Great work too!

Another great Macjams-inspired song about "lurkers" is here:

I Love the
Idea behind this and the great synth sounds, vocal and harmonies are delightful, very floaty and ponderous 'lost in Space' sounding, cheers M

So Sad
How come I feel bad for the computer and absolutely nothing for the human that died?

I guess I'm just wired all wrong.

M2 this is really great. I see ghost images of Bruce Dern running through a space station.

Nice use of that FM synth and such a sad and desperate story.

lavalamp said 71 days ago
Weird
Weird one. That's a compliment. Sounds like a long lost tune From Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall.

Cool one M2,

Dave

Not 2001 perhaps but
more like Douglas Adams - or is that thought coming to me just because of you playing the violin in the artwork? ;-) Well done in a short time, though! Thanks for sharing!

Energy Loses Opulence
it is beautiful. it is a unique creative process. the slow pace creates energy dissipation. the chorus reminds a little of e.l.o. many thoughts are borne of this story. it evokes latent memory banks. perhaps in a prior reboot it happened. the master is missed. the notes are lost. there is no code to retrace a step. it is a sad, beautiful story. 0x0

poignant little tune!
i always like the vocals you do and this is no exception. can't believe how good the phrasing is for a tune you recorded so quickly - same for the lyrics - not a bad line in there - i know this was the result of joking around but it's actually a poignant little tune. i feel bad for the robot - maybe he'll orbit past major tom...

Brilliant
Reading the description while listening to the track really puts you in right in the picture you have created. Its so funny as well you writing a track by being inspired about not being able to send notes. Fantastic track, really enjoyed.

dajama said 71 days ago
Super
Great sound, and a terrific concept. The sounds on this are really appropriately ethereal and out there, and the lyrics are really well done - funny and sad at the same time! Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Very spacey has a drifting cold feel. Very impressive the way you use your voice in this. Excellent!

Ground control to Major Michael2!
I can't believe you did this man! (Don't worry, I won't sue for copyright infringement! lol)

This is the quintessence of cool Michael. Really...

I'm (strangely) honored...Not sure why...

Be well friend!

Like Bob I cry for Sapience
and the fact that no one will ever hear his song and share his lonliness and loss. Like many others I stand in awe of your ability to make amazing music on the spot - or in this case - out of the ether. Great track - very Beno Berlin.

Vic Holman said 69 days ago
so you've taking up violin i see
love the bowie take to this.

has to suck being a A.I. computer with no one play chess with

echoroom said 69 days ago
A paranoid Android!
Brain the size of a planet, left alone with these humans etc etc.

Spooky but catchy, this almost like an electro-prog track... I bet Dorsey loves this! You really can turn your hand to anything, cant you???
