Description My buddy Lavalamp and I wanted to work on a song together, so I sent him some lyrics. He's a super talented singer songwriter and I've been itching to do something with him since he joined MacJams. He was obviously up for the task. I was pretty shocked when he sent me back this great arrangement with his chillin' vocals and guitars and drums. I was ready to post it when I received the email.

I was inspired by these hand colored photos that our friend Kym O'Donnell created of my wife. Katy was one of her favorite models for her "vintage" photos. I used a few other images in previous songs.

We hope you enjoy this tune as much as we do.
Lyrics HAND COLORED PHOTOGRAPH

SOMETIMES I THINK IT'S YOUR EYES
SOMETIMES I THINK IT'S YOUR LAUGH
I'M TELLING YOU, THAT SHE CAPTURED YOU
IN THIS LOVELY HAND COLORED PHOTOGRAPH

I LOVE YOU AS THE ELFIN QUEEN
YOU LOOK LIKE YOU COME FROM A DREAM
A 1940'S MOVIE QUEEN
SHINING ON A SILVER SCREEN

I WOULD DO MOST ANYTHING
IF YOU WOULD LET ME BE YOUR KING

TIMELESS BEAUTY POISE AND STYLE
SEX APPEAL PACKED IN YOUR SMILE

SOMETIMES I THINK IT'S YOUR EYES
SOMETIMES I THINK IT'S YOUR LAUGH
I'M TELLING YOU, THAT SHE CAPTURED YOU
IN THIS LOVELY HAND COLORED PHOTOGRAPH

I LOVE YOU AS THE ELFIN QUEEN
YOU LOOK LIKE YOU COME FROM A DREAM
A 1940'S MOVIE QUEEN
SHINING ON A SILVER SCREEN

I WOULD DO MOST ANYTHING
IF YOU WOULD LET ME BE YOUR KING

Genius?
I've always thought lava was a smart feller and I think he's a great singer. He probably is a genius, being so smart and all.... Thanks Feter! I think you're pretty smart too. I heard you on NPR not long ago....

Perfect balance of mid-tempo balladry (for the love song) and synthetic wackiness (which translates the fantasy of the photos)

pixel karate superfantastique!

about time
that you guys created something from scratch.

You two should be knighted or something.

this song is great.

i hear both of your styles and they go together like a hand tinted meeting of the minds.

Sir Dave sings excellent here and a nice composition..... and he raps?

Cool lyrics and synth work, Sir Bob

Sir Dave Sings, Raps and entertains millions on a daily basis
I'm still pretty blown away by what Dave did, I mean, as far as I know, he's just an American in Germany trying to make an honest living and raising a family - who'da thought he would grow up to be such a rock star?

lengold said 72 days ago
Lovely song
Great collaboration - you two mix very well together - in every sense. Love the surprise rap/reggae section. Very nice heartfelt lyrics.
Cheers
Len

Shaken, Not Stirred
When I first heard this kid I thought, "Man, I should've written that song...." and then I thought about it for a minute and thought, "Waitaminit - I did write that song!!" He'd just recorded it first.

It was a thrill to finally actually work on something with someone who was already writing songs for me. Know what I mean?

I love the rap/reggae thing too.

tempie said 72 days ago
its in the mix!
i love how tinted photos are a combination of the machine and manual arts, and the result of the combination is so shockingly unlike either part that they look almost magic, and it's really interesting how much this tune mimics that same process, mixing earthy and digital sounds and ethnic and 80's genres to arrive at a sound that's emotive of something beyond both. I really dig it. Blur tried something similar on their last album, Think Tank.

Juggy Position
Lots of cool things going on in this one. The freaky backwards vocals has some sort of tone that sets up the song quite well, yet seems like it shouldn't belong, but it does!

Cool, cool clab.

five_extra_arms said 70 days ago
Juggy
Yeah, I was kinda freaked out with the backwards vocals, but Dave convinced me that if I wanted my puny voice on the track, it'd have to be backwards. I said exactly what you said, but he proved his instincts were right and mine were, well, wrong.

i like it..
i like it alot! nice beat, nice melody and a nice weird feel. and the rap'ish thing at the end is a perfect close for this tune.

great production
I really like where the drums sit in the arrangement which just leads to everything being in the right place and balance. Vocals and and lyrics rock - and rap - very cool. Excellent collab. Makes me want to get back to Mac music again. I've been enjoying my live thing - but there's nuthin like a well crafted song like this.

I couldn't be happier with the way this turned out and I'm very happy you like it too.

So bud, let's make some Mac music together!

Thanks Bob
It was fun working on this project. Hope to do it again sometime.

Super Dave
I've said it before, you're a rockstar Dave. Anytime buddy. You're a talented songwriter and I really think this is one of your finest performances (unbiased opinion).

Elfin Queen
My gal's a special one. This series of photos that her girlfriend shot totally captures the essence of who she is. So much, in fact, that it inspired me to write a tune. Hmm, imagine that, a woman inspiring a man to write a song. Could it be true?

And by the way, I sleep in a synth bed for anyone who's ever asked.

Thanks Drak!

Very Good Collab
Very enjoyable listening. Definately the best from both of your worlds. Cool track, well done.

Lol, love the rap. :-)

Thanks Keith!

dajama said 70 days ago
Cool
This is very cool. Love the lyrics, first off, and the musical approach is great - cool and funky with a hint of whimsy. The synth sounds are cool, and Dave, your voice is terrific on this (I love the rapping part at the end). I've listened a couple of times now, and it's totally stuck in my head ( in a good way!) Very cool. Great collaboration. Do more! Nice job, gents. Peace.

Axgrinder said 70 days ago
Your women let the two of you play........
T-O-G-E-T-H-E-R? Trick or be tricked thrice, perhaps? To hell with the treats! This is what one would call, a wee off yer rocker Rocker! I almost detected a slight (Vic Holman'ish) tone in your vocals.... At least they reminded me of his style a bit, I would guess? But then, I'm one of your resident axe wielding eccentrics....... Scary, huh?

As for the tune? Well it's down right Tasty! It's also cool, fresh and sports a popy drum track! I dig the funky disco rap break at the end and the way it just, well.... it just...sorta., like..... ends! Nice bit o' collaborating fellers! Great job by you both..... I enjoyed it very much.

Thanks,

Alvin

five_extra_arms said 70 days ago
T-O-G-E-T-H-E-R?
Yup, and we play well together. No fighting, no cursing, nothing but rock and that other thing...

Thanks Axums

Hey Dave,
Bob was gushing about you last April when we had that infamous meeting of the minds in the MPD, NYC with Jim Infinites & Kevin Bud, good to see you guys finally do a clab...

Bob's keys are in top form as usual and i really enjoyed your unusual reggae rap, nice stuff fellers!

echoroom said 68 days ago
POP!
This is a really perky track guys - Bob's lyrics are super romantic as usual, and Daves voice is like a sweeter version of Bobby from Primal Scream. Groovy little dance tune - the *0s collides with the (0s and ends up today.

This one brought you out of hibernation? Are we going to see you around more often?

Bob IS such a romantic.

Thanks,

Dave

wonderful
Two of my MJ favorites. No disappointments. The synths, the drums, the strange arrangements, the weird dubbing at the end. ...and of course, the always unique subject matter. You guys are great.

The Infinites said 61 days ago
Mad-chester...
That rap part slays me! Didn't see that coming. It's all Happy Monday's / Stone Roses and that's always a good thing. Nice reverse at the very end.

This is a seamless collab and it sounds like you had a ball doing it. I bet it's both your favorite songs right now?

Bob/Dave or Dave/Bob - you've got the chemistry going on - I too would like to hear much more. Fine work fellows!

Jim

Char said 39 days ago
Dave did great,
but he had some fun lyrics to work with. So packed with sound and synth and the rap and backwards vox: Ve-e-r-y interesting, creative and infectious. It is a great vehicle for a dance number. Send it to "Dancing with the Stars." But don't let "Ice Capades " get hold of it! They ruin everything! Thanks, guys. :)
