thanks to you Michael for being up for something new and lending your talents. Without vocals and a strong melodic theme its just another jam :-) |

Wonderful stuff. Quite the lineup here. I have no idea how Jim got those drums sounding so good. Love all three guitars. Lots of personality in the vocals. Very special. The song itself (by Karma, I'm assuming) is just too cool. |

You guys are such a sexy bunch. As usual, I like to see your lyrics. My heart can't take all this heat. Great collaboration. Thanks. |

great groove great groove as expected from karmatoburn. vocal styling is perfect for the tune, love the transition from slur in the verse to growl in the chorus. reminds me of about ten different artists all at once - very cool. |

Fun! Maybe this song should end up in the Second Chance Challenge column because it was one I almost forgot about. It must have been over a year ago when karmatoburn sent this to me, and it was as a collection of individual aiffs that needed to be put together. He had a guide mix and the individual parts, and I dragged everything into GB to figure out how to go about fitting into this collaboration. When I took a listen I thought the basics were pretty great but the drum track needed some beefing up and there was a rhythm guitar part that was played on a software instrument guitar. So I went about replacing the rhythm guitar and just kept recording parts. I replaced karma's drum track with Drums on Demand loops and sent it back to karma and he was cool with it. It just needed a vocalist to step up but that seemed to take forever and I almost forgot about this. It got moved onto a drive and I didn't hear anything else about it for ages. Last week karma sent me what Michael recorded and it was really perfect. Michael wanted to change some things in the file I'd come up with so that it worked better with his vocal tracks, so I offered to mix it, and then when I opened up my GB file in Logic and dropped the vocal tracks into it, I realized that there were some things that just wouldn't work, mostly the Drums on Demand loop track I'd thrown together. I've started using EZ Drummer more and more for drums, as it's a very flexible and realistic sounding software instrument that really has altered the way I work entirely. I got turned onto EZD when working on Nolan's CD. The drums are from the Nashville Kit expansion pack of EZ Drummer while the basics of the groove is from the Groove Library of the Vintage Kit EZD pack, but highly tailored to the song. I did some massaging of the bass track and the various guitar parts and voila! I love Z's playing so much, always have since finding him on MacJams, as well as everyone else on this track, and this was a joy to work on, very groovy. It's a weird amalgam, but that seems to be par for the course for me. |

Vibe Enjoying the cool vibe of so many musicians playing together. Special kudos to Jim on the drum programming. It sounds like a real drummer responding seamlessly to the players as they add their solos. Cool. Thanks Bill |

OK This Might Be A little embarrassing but it doesn't really matter this is a great job by everyone and Jim nice job on the mix. But guess what...it's not me so we need to find out who did the great first solo. This song has taken many turns over such an extended period of time it's no wonder something got lost in the mix (no pun intended). Anyway I wish I could take credit but I can't so lets just enjoy. |

slick excellent job guys. sounds great. To me it's a bit of the best of the fusion, R&B sound that was very well defined in the 70's. I'm saying that as a good thing because it has seem to have gotten lost over the years. Whole lotta soul here. |

There is no right genre unless far f*ing out is a genre. Excellent collab all the way around. Really well put together and your vocals fit in perfectly. I heard a little echoroom for a moment - which was fun. I like the low under your breath ending. This reminds me a little of the work Phil Manzanera was doing solo in the eighties. Killer guitars, bass, drums, production. Yeah! |

I think this is more soul than art rock but great and unexpected nonenthless. Solid rythm section and a fine and energetic performance for everyone involved. You should try a couple more one of these days.It will worth the effort judging for this song. |

Oh Wow Way to go Mike and friends. This is a killer song with some very over the top playing. Love the theme, even if it has been a "few" years since I've had that "youthful idealism" Great track all around, but especially the vocal you did. Be well and be cool, all of you Ed |

Michael I just heard the later posting of this by Jim. I commented that your vocal performance makes it for me. I like the beefier drums and bass in this version, but then again, your voice shows through more in the later version, and of course we get to hear Z293's solo in that one too. |

I have a new genre Stoking!!! |

...one of the most original pieces of music heard here at MJ central for a long time. A great 'supergroup' collaboration! Those drums sound terrific - how did you get that sound Jim? - they have so much space and a real live feel. The vocal and the whole arrangement is tip-top; mysterious, slightly jazzy, unique. If I have one minor quibble, there is too much guitar soloing for me (this is personal taste, nothing else...), but Mr Musacchio certainly can play. Other than that, a real, real treat - thanks for posting.
Phil
