Description This is a collab a long time in the works but it was worth the wait and shows that when making music, two Pete's can be better than one. Smokey Bacon Jnr sent me the main riff and was able to take my boatload of barely congruous guitar parts to craft the following. Kudos to Pete for putting it all together, providing the sound engineer skills and anchoring the soul of this song.

Special thanks to Drew Roberts, a poet from the Bahamas who was the writer/vocalist of our little dittie.

Whew! Jack just linked this in chat - first thing I'm hearing this morning - Wake Up Call! This is great - thanks!

Thanks Karen
Glad we could help get you up and running this morning with this wake up call. Digital high-octane coffee provided right here free of charge!

Meat And Potatoes
And tons of gravy!

Is this what we can expect from the guitar new set up Pete_NB? You might need an ice pack to keep the computer from over heating! Screaming riffs!

And Smokey, you've got this serious Lou Reed thing going on - NYC era. I love what you've done here.

Great vocals, production and dastard lickage make this an easy fave/download.

I need an ice pack

Pete_NB said 94 days ago
Ice is for rum!
Gravy is totally my favourite vegetable. We were back and forth with this song long before I got my new toy (Firebox) but it was used for a portion of this, while some of it was just plugged straight into the back of the mac. I'll be using that for the remainder of my future tunage until something better comes along.

Smokey pointed out that the vocals were actually done by the writer of the lyrics, and I had incorrectly attributed them to Smokey. Sorry Drew!

"Dastard Lickage". I love it!

Roca_Atomica said 94 days ago
Wicked.
Love that guitar sound. What's yer setup? This butt kicker goes very well with morning coffee.

Pete_NB said 94 days ago
Set up
Most of my stuff was my Squier strat plugged straight into the Mac and using the Garageband emulator. Some of it was through my Presonus Firebox and once again into the GB emulator.

Smokey can give you his set-up if he likes but I believe he uses Guitar Rig.

Thanks for listening!

smokey bacon jnr said 94 days ago
my set up
I have a guitar plugged via an Audio Buddy into the back of my G5. In Logic Express I use Guitar Rig 3 for all my sounds. The bass on this track was done with Reason using the Electric Bass pack - I tried a straight bass guitar but couldn't get a clean enough sound, so the keyboards came to the rescue. Drums are Beta Monkey Metal samples... All the mastering etc was done in Logic.

Lightman- said 93 days ago
Great
Great and cool riffs on the guitar... And i like the bass playing..... Great song... Thumbs up....

Pete_NB said 92 days ago
Bass
Smokey laid down quite the kickass electronic bassline here didn't he?

Thanks for the comments!

Pete_NB said 92 days ago

Glad you liked it Feter. Smokey looked after all the production, I just sent him some guitar parts and he stitched this rocker together quite nicely.

lengold said 93 days ago
This is just
a great track. Everything spot on.
Cheers
Len

Pete_NB said 92 days ago
Thanks Lengold
It's a treat to be involved with a song when someone knows how to engineer so well. Smokey gets all the credit for composing and putting this together. You should check out his other stuff!

smokey bacon jnr said 92 days ago
stop it!
Thanks Pete, you're too kind!! But it would have sounded pedestrian without the scorching lead guitar giving it's ass a good kicking.

Outtaorbit said 93 days ago
This rocks
rocks and rocks

Pete_NB said 92 days ago
Rocks, rocks and rocks.
Third times the charm!

Thanks for listening.

nice
nice production, mixed well. I like when it breaks at 1:05 and kicks in with the lead. good stuff.

Pete_NB said 90 days ago
Thanks
Thanks for taking a listen! Smokey gets the credit for the mixing and production. I had a blast adding some guitar.

Ejh said 89 days ago
Some monstrous guitar tones here...
...great riffing, great crunch, great interlacing lead bits...

This is the most 'songish' thing I've heard from Pete_NB, and I like it...

Little crit-lets, since I'm hoping you guys are going to do this again:

There are bits where this shouldn't be possible, I know, but the drums feel like they're not quite sync'd to the guitars...to my weird ears they sound like they're rushing the beat...

And I like the lyrics, but for me the sort of half-spoken vocal sits oddly on top of the main musical bed...

Like a little textbook of guitar sounds and approaches, though, and loaded with true guitar candy moments...

Ed

Astute as Always
Ed,

The song-ish nature and the interweaving of lead parts is the positive influence of Smokey. Audio engineering has never been my focus or forte, but Smokey's riffs and compositional skills, and patience at the dashboard really gave rise to something that I think is pretty special. All I did was take some fun riffs and run roughshod over them like a beast, and Smokey made sense of it all.

We've got a rework in the wings, and you're spot-on crit-lets will be addressed.

Thanks for the listen and the advice.

CraizeeMusic said 80 days ago
Great tune!
i like the guitars and the tune! Great work! I think maybe a reverb and a little closer mix of the vocals would make the vocal track not stand out so much...unless that is what you are looking for, then great job! :)

Pete_NB said 79 days ago
Cool Man
Glad you dig it. And thanks for the advice. We're waiting on someone to come back to us with a track or two on this to take it to the next level and we'll take your thoughts under advisement.

Thanks for tuning in!

lavalamp said 78 days ago
Nice setting
The guitar at the intro was outstanding. If I say the vocal was a little too much up front, would you be mad? (BTW, I really dig the vox.)

The guitar is miles beyond me.

Keep rockin' on, brother.

Dave

HEy!
Glad you can dig it. And we rarely cry around here when receiving thoughtful critiques.

Thanks for the listen and the thoughts.

Pete_NB said 71 days ago
Rockin' and Arangin'
It was a blast doing my thing over Smokey's smokin' riffs. Amazing what a difference a musical effort can have when it's properly orchestrated. I've learned a bunch from this collab.

Thanks for the listen!

Ripper mate

Rip
Thanks for the listen and the kind words.

Big and juicy
If this were a steak it would be one of those 72 ouncers. This is some really cool guitar riff oriented balls to the wall rock and roll. Nicely done guy's.
Peace
Guy

Wait..
...until you see the version with the onions and mushrooms!

rover101 said 54 days ago
Great stuff
BUT

Drums suck

Vocal too forward, and given it's nature you might want to try messing it up a bit with delays and distortion and suchlike.

Great groove, GREAT guitar, great potential

Pete_NB said 34 days ago
Yeah
The drums are a little out of synch in places but I've actually got a local guy who is trying to take a crack at doing the drums for us. Just waiting patiently for the results...

Thanks for the listen and honesty.

davisamerica said 35 days ago
so pete
you know i love this ... absolutely a BEST of 2008 track !

Pete_NB said 33 days ago
Thanks DA!
You've shown a lot of support for this song and it has been greatly appreciated.

Glad to see you back, I thought you were outta here for a while. I've been too busy to spend as much time as usual here lately myself.

MarkHolbrook said 34 days ago
This kicks in nicely!
That guitar is like a chain saw ripping its way through the song! Very cool sound!

Pete_NB said 33 days ago
Electrical beasts...
...were never meant to be all that subtle. Thanks for the listen, comments and fave!

Now, where's that tree....

All the guitars are simply crushing in this. Big and bangin.

Pete_NB said 30 days ago
Crushing
Glad you thought so. Smokey's main riff was just screaming for more screaming.

Bob Rodgers said 31 days ago

Killer
guitar work. Damn! Great rhythm in this tune. Not sure how I felt about the spoken word. It was cool the first time, but it could have done without the third I think. Not necessarily the position of the third, but just three in general. But what a rockin' track. Guitar was outstanding. Downloaded, thanks!
