Description I wrote and upped this to Macjams years ago when I first got Garageband. I thought it needed a spit and polish so I've redone the arrangement - it now sounds a bit more like I first envisioned. Hope you like it.
Lyrics There was a man who was unable
To walk without a cane
All his cards were on the table
Never tried to hide his pain

His life had been hard, so very hard
He'd never got it right
But he'd tried, oh God he'd try
Morning, noon and night
Now the sun was going down
On his empty life

But he's still one more hand to play
Now he's going to make then pay

He took the steps to his basement
Blew the dust off an old black case
Saw a photograph of his dead wife
Turned it round, to hide her face

Took the gun from the black box
Said a prayer, and went outside
Threw his cane in the gutter
He'd go with an ounce of pride

His life had been hard, so very hard
He'd never got it right
But he'd tried, oh God he'd try
Morning noon and night

Now the sun was going down
On his empty life
But he's still one hand left to play,
Now he's going to make them pay

This is very cool - you did some amazing stuff here! Love all the sounds and the different vocal effects you used. Great instrument sounds - great song! Very catchy tune and the lyrics are great. Superb job on this, the production is very good.

Neil Hannon-esque
.. but I read you listed him and the Divine Comedy as a strong influence. I like alot of their choons too .. and I enjoyed this.

A little "Falling down" movie in lyrical/them inspiration... cool idea.

Certainly impressive use of GB and excellent instrumentation choices and percussion. Vocals very good too.

Thanks for sharing.

Mass murder has never been so appealing
I don't know that I ever heard the original, but let me tell you, what ever you did to it was great. This has s much of the stuff that I've come to expect from you. Great lyrics, wonderfully quirky. I always love your use of strings. Great to see some more new (sort of) stuff from you.

this is
really great. i love the song and the way you performed it is perfect. drums sound great, are those loops or did you bang them out (not that it matters in the long run)? i'm pretty much blown away by this.

Leebo said 93 days ago
thanks
thanks for the positive comments. To answer your question, no loops used - the drums were banged out by my stubby little fingers on the keyboard. Took me a while to get it right but I think it turned out okay.

they
turned out great. i got tired of banging on the keys, so i bought the m-audio trigger finger the other day. haven't really had a chance to play with it, but very cool (and cheap). really great job (all the more impressed now).
