Description This is about a squid who was dear to my heart (it's a long story). It's not a new song as I wrote it a couple of years ago but it is about friendship and love and overcoming prejudice and garlic mayo.

My wife doesn't like it. "Why don't you ever write a love song for me?"

Who Doesn't Love Squid Songs?
The answer to your wife's question is simple - there just aren't enough songs about squid.

Great tune Dick. This is already giving back to the squid loving community what is long overdue.

DWL said 47 days ago
That's what I keep saying
I don't think my wife understands me.

Thanks for stopping by.

Cheers

Dick

Thanks for listening.

ah so that's where that sick squid went...
Always liked this but is this a new version with added water?

While we're on recipes, here's one i like

Giant Squid Risotto

1 x Giant Squid, finely diced
1 x Bangladesh's annual rice harvest
25,000 x Uncle Ben's Giant Squid risotto mix
Salt and Peeper to taste (lots)

Method

1. Hire local swimming pool and turn heater up, monday.
2. add ingredients
3. Return thursday
4. drain and serve.

I must confess that I haven't actually tried this one yet. The council have closed my local pool and the Brockwell Lido won't let me use their facilities.

So when is your album ("Good music to fry fish to") going to be released?

DWL said 47 days ago
Probably not the plaice to discuss this
but "A Farandole for Frying Fish" has been shelved (middle one in a fan oven) due to the Squid Liberation Front's threats to turn themselves inside out "en masse" on Oxford Street (I wouldn't have thought they had the guts to do it but never trust an angry cephalopod)

They closed our Lido too.

Cheers

Dick

And you have
the audacity to ask ME 'what's in your head'.
Love the way you ran around the room playing the kazoo, that must have been interesting to watch.
Great fun Dick.
Cheers
Len

DWL said 47 days ago
Kazoos always to that to me
I have no idea what's in my head at any one time. Sound familiar? :)

Wow
I found it easy grappling this one!

Both warm, happy and true. It made me hungry.

DWL said 46 days ago
Warm amd happy

Thanks for listening

Repulsive_Landlord said 47 days ago
Let me try this again...
The burbly watery sound made a good background, and the Kazoo - a great add-in.

Best regards,

. - Harold

make you feel very bubbly.

Thanks for listening:-)

Don't tell your love about this.
Perhaps, you have heard of fans throwing squid or an octopus on the ice prior to a Detroit Redwings hockey game.
On April 15, 1952 during the Redwings' Stanley Cup playoff run, the brothers, Pete and Jerry Cusimano, owners of a Detroit fish shop, threw an octopus onto the ice at the Olympia Stadium. The eight tentacles of the octopus were supposed to be symbolic of the eight wins needed to win the cup. The Red Wings won the series that year, and the squid or octopus has become the tradition ever since. The largest octopus ever to be thrown on the ice weighed fifty pounds! It was proudly displayed on the hood of the Zamboni while the ice was being cleaned in between periods. Oh, the inhumanity! Your song goes a small way towards righting a wrong. Glad you fished that out of your catalog. Thanks.

DWL said 46 days ago
Thanks Char
Very interesting. Amazing story. What some people get up to eh?

I'm pleased you enjoyed the song.

Cheers

Dick

Micheal_Wark said 46 days ago
Ha ha...
Fun stuff Mr. Langford! Haven't heard anything quite like this since the Beatles' "Octopus's Garden."

Very nice vocal delivery of ridiculous lyrics. I'd actually love to hear a balls-out rock version of this one as well.

Glad you're back Dick!

Be well!

DWL said 45 days ago
Hiya Mike
Not quite back as it's an old song but almost!

Thanks

Dick

Micheal_Wark said 44 days ago
???
You mean that you've been sitting on this one for some time?

Must have been uncomfortable! lol

Be well friend!

Vic Holman said 46 days ago
more arms to hold you
about time someone gave due respect and understanding to squids. they are so misunderstood..... and they have no hair.

DWL said 45 days ago
And a beak to boot
and they change colour. Nice to know you understand Vic :-)

Love the Kazoo
Great track dick with a, how shall I say this, a "tongue in cheek" kind of feeling. Had me smiling just from reading the intro, and by the way, it may be a long story, but I think it's on a need to know basis. Trust me on this, I really DON'T need to know. ;-) lol

Never the less, this is as I would have expected, a very entertaining track. Thanks for sharing your "Passion" for you squid.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

DWL said 45 days ago
Tongue so far in cheek
I was tickling my tonsils

Sometimes we meet someone/thing that we can't ignore. 'Nuff said :-)

It's not often the kazoo gets an outing so it's always nice to have a bit of a blow... oo-er missus

Thanks Ed

Cheers

Dick

guitapick said 46 days ago
Sensitive and thought provoking...
...even for an ordinary biped, such as myself.

I can only imagine what an attractive, cultured, young squidette would think of this, Dick. Of course your wife doesn't like it! It's a definite threat to your relationship!

This song has inspired me to go back to a tune I was writing about plankton, some time ago...

DWL said 45 days ago
It's a pity
the squidette wasn't very cultured but what she could do with those tentacles..... (actually, what couldn't she do with those tentacles :-) )

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheers

Dick

My favorite...
...spots: "la-la-la-la-la" background; the bubbles; the echo effect at the end... Well, certainly as good as any novelty song around. Bob's comment (above) about this kind of song threatening a relationship --- probably true, but for reasons other than the squid! ... This was fun and I enjoyed listening. It is nice to hear this humorous side of you.
Peace.
Paul

DWL said 43 days ago
Humorous?
This is a serious song Paul ;-)

It was actually thrown together in a couple of hours (warts and all) in response to a discussion on another forum.

Squid are mostly misunderstood and I wanted to put the record straight.

I'm pleased you enjoyed my excursion to the dark side :-)

Thanks

Dick

This tune deserves to octopy a space in Ringo's garden and of course, in the shade, while we all sing and dance about, joyous that Dick gave us another tune, as food for thought.
I'm thinking breaded calamari, shallow-fried in Olive Oil. Enjoyed munching on this one and chasing with a Guiness.

DWL said 38 days ago
I think you'll find
groundnut oil imparts a better flavour even it is less "healthy"

A cold Guiness would be excellent or a chilled Pinot Grigio works well.

Thanks for listening :-)

Cheers

Dick

Moviz said 45 days ago
Fun song
great fun song and much better than anything Ringo could do. Love the singing ....and the bubbles LOL, cheers M

DWL said 38 days ago
Amazing what effects
these modern synths have got. Anybody would think it was bloke blowing bubbles through a straw ;-)

Thanks Maurice, much appreciated.

Cheers

Beautiful tune
I love your voice Dick. And your weird imagination. But you knew that already. :)

You even make a kazoo sound regal and dignified.

I hope you really are "coming back" ... I've missed you!

bug67 said 44 days ago
This is great!
Kazoos, squids, fries and bubbles. I don't get why the missus doesn't like it. I'm not one for marital suggestion but, maybe time for a trade in :P

P.S. Please don't listen to me. I know nothing!

Ibstrat said 42 days ago
One
of my teenage guitar students has a Fender Squire Strat. He sanded of the re in Squire and replaced it with a "d" so now it says Fender Squid! I have to let him listen to this. The best squid song I have ever heard.

Enrique Gil said 41 days ago
You need to expand on the...
cephalopod story...it is funny enough to know your wife does not like it. Great song, funny...very funny. This one is a download!

bud said 40 days ago
Squidward is my favorite
Spongebob character and his buddy Patrick is swell too. Maybe you'll find time for a starfish song. This made me hungry.

My Cephalopod
Haha - what a cool intro!!! Great song, amazing playing and singing :-) Enjoyed it a lot!!!

VicDiesel said 22 days ago
Frog in your throat?
Given that you write this sort of song, your wife should be very careful in wishing for a song dedicated to her.

Of course your good taste would prevail in that case. Right?
