Description Been working in the City, been grim - this flowed forth... perhaps part of a score for a film set in a post-free market age.

: tumbleweeds at twilight
O man you have a great control on your fiddle
to let it sound what ever you want ..so bluesy
licks, great great sound though .. indeed a
very thoughtful film score for a documentary scenes of
peoples properties been left empty ...great
work my friend !! thnx alot for sharin !!!!

Jim Bouchard said 97 days ago
Nice!
Some tasty playing here, your description of your work environment as grim sort of fits with the sort of moody licks.
I seem to sense some distortion here and there, but I suspect that might just be the Zoom effects box. I used to have a Zoom box and it felt like when I used the distortion it was sort of square wave. That was many effects boxes ago...hehe

I haven't forgotten totally about that bass part that I owe you but I ran into some difficulty when trying to get it right that I set it aside. I'll geep trying!

There are some things...
...that make the fiddle uniquely suited for human expression and for experimenting with...

And the trick is to be able to do it without getting too scratchy, or losing pitch, or getting skreetchy tone...

Here you manage a touch of the otherworldly while still staying tuneful, still being grounded and having grit that doesn't gouge...

I find myself imagining the movie...

Very evocative.
I kept staring at the photo. At times your fiddle reminds me of a sad siren, lamenting the colorless flow of a life trapped in gray walls of routine. Then again, there's always hope in your music. I like the sound - remote, but not detached. like I said, very evocative, perfect for a scene with a voice over, telling a story or illustrating a peaceful sunset after a long working day. Somehow reminds of the "Firefly" or "Serenity" soundtrack.

Hope
Having listened back again for the first time in a few days - your hope comment makes sense, this track actually sounds to me a lot more positive than I intended!

I've never heard of Firefly or Serenity but I'll look out for them.

Like the pic
title and of course the music. It really seems to set the seen of feeling of a almost down and out hobo about ready to make his way into the market place. Not sure what you do, but I hope you make plenty of money at it to give the poor guy!

Very down and out bluesy feel done spot on.

I'll think of this next time I've going into Frisco :^) Give some bluesy flavor to 'ol Frisco ! Just kidding, I thin feel the opposite now that I am back.

To be honest though, I think I had a more bluesy attitude when I was in the Nashville area. Cause the state didn't recognize tile contractors. So I had to compete with handymen that were installing shower pans wrong and taken away my business. So glad I am back, I have to listen to one of your more happier tunes to get the more happy feeling that I have now that I am back here in the wonderful bay area.

I think when I here this tune replayed in my mind I think of how depressing the area was for me. Not that it is bad mind you. I also just couldn't get used to the weather there. But to each his own. I know if people that are born in an area they often times just can't leave it cause they are used to it.

Sorry for the ramble, just had to get that off my chest. Your music made me do it!!!! ^) Pretty strong stuff KK !!!

Thanks Bill
I've lived in places where I didn't feel I belonged - ain't good so I sympathise. Glad the music struck a chord with you - often when I come up with stuff it's a head thing, an intellectual process but once it's done and out there people often respond on a very emotional level which can be a surprise. I guess my emotional side sneaks out when I'm not looking!

KK

PS - wish I was earning plenty of money - I'd give it to the poor guy and get myself a few decent musical gizmos too! However I've never been a high-roller and still have to worry about meeting the bills...

Man- that's sad-
I've been reading the comments as I listen. I can agree with all of them on some level. This is really lonely sounding, but it kind of makes me think of that depression era picture of a woman sitting with kids all around her with a look of utter bewilderment and resignation on her face. Mournful is the word I use to describe this.

Komrade K said 91 days ago
Mournful
Having listened back again the track sounds too upbeat to me - possibly the scales I was running through. But perhaps making it even more mournful would be getting excessive on the melancholy scale...

Bluesy
I thought I was hearing a car horn for a few seconds at the start (in part because I was expecting a sounds of the city type piece, perhaps), and thought it was very cool when it turned out to be your violin. Very soulful, meditative playing. Bill (the tiler) mentions a down and out, bluesy feel, and I definitely hear that too. To me this feels more Mississippi Delta than urban, but no matter -- it's very fine and I like it.

Surprised
I'm really surprised at the positive reaction this is getting. In truth it's an improvisation on a couple of ideas that came out of an improvisation that I'd just previously drifted into after running an effects unit through one of the settings I'd created on GB to give the electric more of an acoustic feel. I actually spent more time sourcing the image than I did creating the track!

However I improvise a lot and I guess that this in itself is preparation for creating this particular track.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.

I too ..

.. get that "Firefly", "Serenity" TV series/film kinda vibe .. prolly only 'cos of the modernisation exploration of fiddle .. and thats my only point of reference. Loved this.

I love how the opening fiddle sounds like traffic. Did you intend that? excellent score to troubles times. Could totally hear this over a documentary on the market crash. Very cool post.

Love the whining
I've been listening to a lot of Edgar Meyer recently, so this is right up my street.

Tumblings
What's worse than financial district tumbleweeds in the twilight? Watching tumbleweeds rolls through the financial district during banker's hours : >

Or maybe it should be followed by a sad emoticon, since it is becoming all too real : (

This may be an intellectual exercise, but your improvisation skills are honed to deliver emotional content. Whether it refers to a specific circumstance, such as the current tumbling global marketplace, or something more general like working-in-the-city blues, the lament is well-expressed in this mournful piece.

I recognize the picture. It is a sunset view of the Lower Manhattan financial district looking across the East River from the Promenade here in Brooklyn. To the right would be the Brooklyn Bridge .. to the left the Statue of Liberty. It is a magnificent view .. even when there is no dramatic sun tumbling down in the evening sky.
