Description New tune in the exotic food series. Messed about with some Middle Eastern loops from the World Jampack and came up with this. Added some bass, padding and bits of percussion. All made using the Albino 3 soft synth, with Klezmer Bend drum loops.

I love falafel!

Thanks for stopping by and listening. :)

Very good sounds
and cool middle eastern sounds, really brings up images of the orient. I like the bass underneath the track, again tickles my ears nicely. Very nice relaxing track, now for some dessert.

davajonah said 97 days ago
or maybe...
... some desert? :)

Cheers!

ff
this is more expreimental more than typical ME music ..
in parts its very turkish ..others very much Moris Jarre
cool work dude ..where s the belly dancer?? ...thnx
alot for sharin !!!

davajonah said 97 days ago
LOL!
I've travelled around Turkey a bit, and a bit of North Africa, but never to the Middle East proper. I always liked the music I was hearing, in fact have some here at home. [Especially like Rai music, Sufi Trance and have recently acquired some Bedouin stuff.] I also like falafel, and cook it often!

Just me having a mess around with some loops brother! Glad you listened, thanks.

Falafel, mmmm, falafel...
Love those deep tones, especially that growler that shows up at about 2:00. The percussion is slick, also. At the risk of repeating myself, top mix.

So, I will have to DL and study, but whenever I decide to write music like this, it ends up sounding Spanish. For example, in the key of E, I would use E F G# A B C D (Phrygian with a raised 3rd). What do you use to get the Middle Eastern sound?

Also, either I'm hallucinating or it sounds better here than over at MI, just in terms of quality of reproduction. Does MJ have a better player?

So, what other exotic foods are getting your musical attention? As for me, I have been working on a series of junk food tunes (one so far).

davajonah said 97 days ago
Ha!
Junk food - yes! Big Mac Boogie! KFC and the Sunshine Band! Good idea. :)

I've done a couple of other things in the food line - Jollof Rice and Chana Dahl - hence "Falafel" - third in the Dava Food Trilogy, and a favourite dish of mine. I know nowt about scales or chord progressions - I used loops as a basis for this one. I made the bass and the pads you can hear, built up the drum and percussion tracks, but I sort of like it anyway.

As for the player at MJ compared to other sites - who knows? I've never really noticed, to be honest. You may be right.

Thanks for the thumbs up - appreciate it!

further
I must add, I used midi loops and got the sounds by tweaking the Albino synth. I also did a lot of pencilling too. It makes me feel more of a musician! :-D

Char said 97 days ago
This is very sexy.
Where did I hide my castanets? If I had someone to dance for, he'd be getting a show. Really enjoyed this. Thanks.

davajonah said 97 days ago
Hmmm...
I could be tempted. Where are you? ;-)

That's a nice compliment - thank you!

Falafel
When I've been to Egypt with a group of musicians couple of years a go, I can remember this was our favorite lunch :-) very cool sounds, an original and excellently produced track, enjoyed the ride a lot, bravo!!!

davajonah said 97 days ago
Falafel
Falafel is delicious! We eat it here at least once a week. Thanks D. :-)

jiguma said 96 days ago
Chilli sauce please!
Nice sounds - reminiscent of Maroc where we spent a bit of time in the 70s - all the way down to Zagora. Also spent time in Turkey - Istanbul mainly, but also the south coast.

Some interesting sounds here Dave - you showed remarkable restraint in not letting this off the leash.

Clean and very cool.

Neil

Chilli sauce?
With falafel? Nah - some nice tzatsiki will do.

Thanks Neil. Yes, you're right. This could have gone anywhere - but I'm fairly happy with the end result, for a change!

davajonah said 96 days ago
Maroc
I won't ask what you got up to there in the 70s! I lived in Gibraltar for some time, used to travel over on Mons Calpe to get groceries. Morocco is a wonderful country, spectacular scenery, and such variety. Great people too, the Moroccans.

jiguma said 96 days ago
surprisingly ...
... not what you're thinking. :)

We were sitting out the European winter in the middle of a 13 month "Grand Tour" from London, up to the Jostadalsbreen glacier in Norway, across to East Berlin and down to the Sahara (and many, many points in between).

We both loved camping our way around Maroc - met some wonderful, friendly people (Hi Abdullah!), learnt some local folk songs and met some very tasty chickens (but that's another story). Made much easier by the fact that Jan speaks good French.

Of all the countries we've travelled in, Morocco and Turkey are right up near the top of our list.

Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Chilli
I'm eferring to the usual mantra when I get a falafel roll in Sydney .. "humous, yoghurt or chilli with that?" always go for the chilli.

;)

Moviz said 96 days ago
I'm sure
you once told me you didn't play well, but you could fool me this sounds great and really exotic.... authentic too, cheers M

davajonah said 96 days ago
Thanks Mo
I wrote did this for my missus, hoping she might dance for me. It didn't work!

Hope you're well brother.

davisamerica said 95 days ago
lol
someone said "naked Belly dancing" ... cool track!

davajonah said 95 days ago
Hmmm yes...
.... maybe NAKED BELLY DANCING will direct someone who is doing a porn search to here. Maybe they will listen to the tune and like it. It could be a record company executive. I might get a contract. I could become rich beyond my wildest dreams. Maybe I should change the title? ;)

Thanks for stopping by Dave!

Henke said 95 days ago
Now I love Falafel too!
But the music rather than the food. My daughter did make some home made recently and that was mucho OK, but the stuff you get from the freezer disk - no, not very nice. This music on the other hand was very fresh, nice and crisp. An excellent mix!

(Loved your comment on pencilling - that's how I feel too ;-)

Take care!

/Henke

davajonah said 94 days ago
Thanks Henke
You should make your own falafel - not frozen, please! Very easy to do.

Cheers!

Lightman- said 93 days ago
Great
A good warm intro.... And i really love the way you play Middle Eastern music, in keyboard-way.... This sounds fantastic... Great work....

davajonah said 93 days ago
Thanks!
Glad you listened and liked. Lot of loops in this one, I must point out, but I did a lot of altering to them.

Cheers!

futzpucker said 93 days ago
Just right...
This is very nice work, Dave. Excellent choices of sounds, all used tastefully and working together to perfection. The whole piece flows with confidence and creates the unique atmosphere you were going for.

This is a very enjoyable listen. Thanks for posting it here.

Thanks Patrick
Kind of you to comment. The Albino 3 synth makes some lovely sounds you know. Someone once told me that it almost plays itself! Maybe not that easy, but it's a lovely thing to work with.

Thanks again.

Skean said 93 days ago
Loops or not
This is a well produced work my friend... Terrific, excellent, perfect.. I simply love it.... Cheers

Solid comments from a solid chap - thank you!

exotic
extremely cool web of sound choices. Percussion was choice.

tokai said 82 days ago
alright mate
nice one. I'm a fan of Eastern music, sounds like you have had some personal experience of these vibes. Great tune to accompany my falafel and beans.

davajonah said 82 days ago
Yes
Falafel and beans; mmm! I spent a lot of time listening to Moroccan radio stations when I lived in Gib. Never really knew what I was listening to at the time, but it was so much better than the rubbish being pumped out on Gib radio. I know a bit more now!

Thanks.
