Description Check out this thread for the inside scoop on this song:

http://www.macjams.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=6;showtopic=141277

I decided what the hell - if The Beatles and U2 can get away with it, I can too. I think every musician should write a 'Pachelbel's Canon in D Major' inspired song once in their life. Hmmm I see a new Macjams challenge coming...

I decided to keep this one pretty stripped down with just the vocal and acoustic - until the end anyway. Not sure if the outro works, but maybe I like it because it doesn't. Know what I mean?
Lyrics I know that I am driving way too fast
But I don't ever wanna slow back down
When you came here I had noting to my name
Now I've got enough to buy this whole damn town

I wish you could tell me why
That you think you can turn back time
Cuz life's caught up with both of us
And left our love behind
And that's why we're alone

When I'm gone you will be much better off
You will live your life the way you did before
You will find another one to fill the space
That I leave behind when I open up this door

But I wish you could tell me why
That you thought you could turn back time
When life caught up with both of us
And left our love behind
and that's why
We're alone

Hello there!
love the duo! love the music! sweet and wonderful.

rsorensen said 99 days ago
hello!
thanks enrique. good to meet you.

kristyjo said 99 days ago
Really nice take -
on that particular chord sequence. You have a very appealing voice for this simple guitar/vocal arrangement. The ending is unusual. personally, I think I'd like it if you kept it spare and simple - just the vocals & guitar - right through to the end, but, hey, that's me.

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks kristyjo. yeah I hear you about the outro. it's a little out of nowhere but I guess that's partly why I like it. give it another chance it grows on you ;)

guygrooves said 99 days ago
Thanks
is all I can think to say.... besides... WOW... these lyrics are the power in this one, they leave you thinking long after the song is finished.
Peace
Guy

rsorensen said 98 days ago

thanks guy, appreciate the listen and comment. This isn't even the whole story. I was going to add another verse, but it was just too much.

lavalamp said 99 days ago
Excellent
Strong lyrics, even stronger singing.

You've got quite a gift Ridd. Thank you for not wasting it.

Dave

rsorensen said 98 days ago

thanks dave. those are kind words. and you're welcome :)

gail60 said 99 days ago
yes I sure do
I remember Lil Ridd when he was only this tall and he shure has become something fierce in that there music business! Why I tell you what....he owes it all to me, yep he shure does. OK OK Seriously :)
Ridd, just stop it, ok? You have proved your point! You are awesome. There I said it! Fantastically talented all the way around my friend. Wonderful song. Simple and beautiful.

rsorensen said 98 days ago

aww shucks, gail. thanks a bunch. you're pretty swell yerself.

Karmatoburn said 99 days ago
never more so
do you display your immense gift than when its just you and the guitar. This is simply perfect. Less is more.

rsorensen said 98 days ago

there's something liberating about stripping things down, isn't there? I'd like to do it more often. thanks for stopping by and checking this out karma.

SJB said 99 days ago
Great
this is really nice. I like the laid back style. The doubled vocals and the little tambourine keeps the interest. It's such a great chord sequence why should Pachelbel keep it to himself?
The ending's a bit of a surprise and maybe I'd prefer it without the long synth note. Whatever -it's a great song!
Steve

rsorensen said 98 days ago

thanks SJB. yeah that note goes on for a while doesn't it haha. not sure why I did that, just felt right. i wonder if pachelbel had any idea what he started with that progression. I think it's just such a natural and intuitive sequence that a lot of songwriters end up unintentionally stealing it.

Truly
A great song, love the acousic with the vocals and at the end for the last few seconds it gives you a chance to reflect on what you just listened to. Very nice -Thanks!

rsorensen said 98 days ago

thanks for listening and commenting, rod.

MarkHolbrook said 98 days ago
Stellar
Excellent Mr. Sorensen! The guitar sounds so beautiful. The lyrics deep and moving with great harmony!

I loved the Canon and this really does have the same moving feeling!

rsorensen said 98 days ago

thanks mr holbrook! yeah pachelbel seemed to know what he was doing when he wrote that. though I don't think he'd be impressed with how many pop songs that have ripped him off, nor how many brides use his canon in their weddings. thanks for listening dude

drakonis said 98 days ago
sweet...
What a challenging thing to do... and you succeeded. This is a gorgeous transmogrification, pretty much your own thing. Very touching, and yes it has a bit of a Beatles sound to the guitar work. I'm not too sure about the sudden strong lingering synth at the end, it seemed a little out of place... although it might work with a little amplitude sculpting, instead of just a held-n-cut-off note. Great lyrics, great singing, great playing and writing. And I almost recognize the tune (smirk).
ttfn,
Drakonis

rsorensen said 98 days ago

ok - i'll need to look up transmogrification, but i think i know what you mean. i'm second thinking the sustained note at the end, but it oddly works with the song that follows this one on the CD. perhaps I'll just shorten it. thanks for listening and commenting

Less is more
Your vocal talents, song crafting and ability to capture a distinct mood and draw the listener in is a combination we all long to cultivate.Few seem to get them all and you're one of the few,at least in my book.Your gifts are a thing of beauty to behold and I am grateful as well as blessed to have stumbled on to you when you first came here. Thanks for being so willing to share and to do so so often.

Blessings my friend,

rsorensen said 98 days ago

man, thanks a lot. very kind of you to say. I gotta thank you for your support in my first few days here. guys like you make this place what it is.
Glad you connected with this. Can I look forward to another song from you soon? Hope so.

tempie said 98 days ago
this is what you do
this is your kind of tune - forget anything else man you should focus on the quiet rambling stuff, you really floor me with it. i'd pay for this easy (but since its free, i'll steal it thanks). like M. Ward and Mark Kozelek, Great Lake Swimmers, etc. just beautiful.

rsorensen said 98 days ago

thanks man. I definitely like writing/recording these kind of songs but I don't know if I could be exclusive to them. i'm feeling the need to turn it up again soon. glad you like this though. Happy to share

rsorensen said 98 days ago

oh - and I love great lake swimmers. thanks!

lengold said 97 days ago
You make it
all sound so easy - like a true master.
I actually like the ending too.
Downloaded. Thanks.
Cheers
Len

rsorensen said 97 days ago

this tune to me, seems to work best in a more raw state.

What a great song on Pachelbel's harmonies. Your voice and delivery reminds me of Simon and Garfunkel classics. Simply amazing and wonderful!!! Bravo!!!

Roxylee said 96 days ago
Wonderful
Such clean sound, sounds like brand new strings. :-) Cool use of the chord progression. Nice relaxed singing, and I really like the unexpected ending. :-)

Lennon714 said 96 days ago

Your vocals are always so crisp. Quite jealous, I am.

Scott Carmichael said 83 days ago
you understand song craft
I wish I knew your name... the progression is pretty standard or predictable... that's not a knock... a few of my best thing are 1 4 5... go figure huh... but it's your song sense that brings this all the way home... authentic delivery... almost theatre, in a good way... for a song to reach someone on an emotional level... we need to employ a bit of the actor.... you have these chops in spades..

bravo
