Description Over the next couple of days, I'm going to post songs from the home-made EP I recorded last year. If you like them enough to put them on your iPod, here's some particulars:

Artist: Nolan
Title: No One
1. Fine
2. Funded
3. Sunrise
4. Solitude
5. Two Seconds

This song features the bassy prowess of Jim "Pooey" Mitchell, a scorching guitar solo from Fran "Ziti" Dagostino, and the mastering skills of Jim Bouchard.

I've got the niggle to write and record again so I'm hoping to spend some quality time at MacJams during the process. Float some works in progress for feedback and ideas along the way, and maybe even find some collaborators. Talk to you soon...
Lyrics I woke up in the suburbs
I stood outside my home
And though it never really mattered
There was only me to call my own

Always patiently distracted
Always time for something else

I can go back now
I’ve been here long enough
I put in my time here
And I will always know what it’s like
When you talk about solitude

I stood under a falling sky
And I decided not to leave
And through the cold I felt the world around me offer itself
I felt a speculated warmth there next to me

Always patiently distracted
Always time for something else

I can go back now
I’ve been here long enough
I put in my time here
And I will always know what it’s like
When you talk about solitude

I wonder how it feels to be
Half of something bigger than this
Lonely place that we stumble around on
And I wonder what it’s like to think that
Being alone again would be
Unspeakably worse than the first time
Hardware eMac, Maton acoustic, MobilePre USB, Behringer B-1 condenser mic, GarageKey keyboard, Pooey's bass, Ziti's guitar
Software: GarageBand and whatever Jim uses.

Wonderful stuff
This has been on my iPod for a long time now and still sounds great. Glad to see you back here Nolan, and hope to hear some new stuff from you soon - go with the niggle! (and if you *do* end up looking for collaborators then I'm officially putting my name forward :0))

All the best,
Phil

Nolan said 98 days ago
Thanks
Thanks Phil. I've really appreciated your kind words about the EP. Still blows me away to think I'm on someone's iPod! Thanks for the offer too. I'll let you know when I'm back into it!

:) welcome back!
Hi Nolan - will be great to hear some more tunes from you. Jim B's done a great mix (although I'd like to hear Jim M's bass a little larger - occupational hazard :)

Great song, well recorded. Fran adds a lot without taking anything from the rest of the players.

Good to have you back at MJ!

Great to have you back!
First of all: Great to have you back! I have often been thinking about you and wondered. (Though I have been very dispresent myself lately). Anyway I was so happy to notice the revival of one of my song writing favoruites (I am still listening to your old productions).

Beautiful song! And (of course) a firts class production! With great emotion! Juicy though the perfection!

At first I was wondering where you'd aquired this outrageous guitar skill (the final solo) and then I read your description .. Deep bows for that Ziti!

I wish!
Ha ha - I wish I could play the guitar like that! No, much easier for me to use a virtuoso like Fran...and a much better result!

Thanks Curry. Nice to hear from you again.

Nolan!
I'm thrilled that you're back...

And what a gift! I just made an iTunes playlist for the 'No One' EP.

I know I had a rough mix from Fran long ago, but this sounds really great. I continue to admire your singing and your gift with a melody and a lyric. It's nice having Fran leaven the sweetness with some bite.

Now if you can just bundle Neil into a station wagon with guitar and bass and drive on up for a visit...

I'm afraid I can't be too critical or nit-picky...I'm simply delighted to hear this...

Welcome back...

fantastic
I'll go hide in a cave now. Love that progression and the singing is obviously professional grade.

hi nolan
i am so glad you posted this song. This was one of the most challenging collabs I have had the pleasure of playing on....when you sent this, i was sure i was gonna eff it up and play something un-useable. I fell in love with your song in the process of learning it, and as it ends up, I am kinda proud of my contribution here. This song taught me a lot and it means alot to me.

Great work, my ozzie friend, and thanks again for putting it out there.

warmest regards

Hey Fran
Mate, for me, this song is just a vehicle for showcasing your talents. I'm so proud to have your solo on my song. I love listening to it. I think that turned out to be just the right chord progression for you to let rip over. Thanks mate.

MarkHolbrook said 100 days ago
Outstanding
I love the mellow start with the guitars and the bass.

Vocals are right on. And Fran... yes Fran... scorching is right! Wow.

tempie said 100 days ago
just discovered you...
this is just really well done: well written lyrics, nicely composed and perfectly played. Solo is really nice and strings lend subtle body to the tune. I really like how the dramatic structure of the tune contrasts with the mellow reading - It sounds like a Metallica song played by the Go-Betweens.

It always seems like
your vocals are always spot on. Plus the backdrop music is very nice as well. Like those harmonies as well.

I have to thank Ed for posting about you at the MJ forum!

Thanks Nolan!

many thanks

soulful vocals. A kaleidoscope of kool. Big production points, this has a very polished feel. Kudo's for letting Zete's run rampant at the end.

Mystified said 99 days ago
welcome back!
lovely to hear your music posted again... :)

fantabulous collab here!

Char said 99 days ago
Very enthusiastically received.
I was rocking in the chair. That was so skillfully put together. Your singing is terrific. All four of you should be very proud. Thanks.
