Keywords Ital Dub (4)Stalk of Sensemilia (4)
Description I came to Paris two weeks ago and brought along a Melodica as an easy travel instrument. After playing swoony Piaf accordion melodies for a few days - I attacked that awful loop and headed in a new direction. Straight to the heart of Dub - Augustus Pablo meets King Tubby style. The walking clav loop is there completely unaltered - all I did was change it to a percussion track and slow it down to 65 bpm. The rest I put together each night after work till I was sick of hearing it on the bus the next morning.
Sit back and relax - Dr. L will be steppin' out the door in no time.

Changed the loop to a percussion instrument! Brilliant. Nice laid back Caribbean sound. This should really put the Dr in a tail spin.

Thanks

Thanks Bill
really glad you stopped by.

Unknowledgeable as I am...
...of all the references made in your description, I nevertheless really enjoyed this number. There's a cool, laid-back quality to it that just kind of infects me as I listen. That loop (not much of a loop guy myself) works well as the underpinning of this whole composition. If I could offer just one small suggestion: pull the solo melodica out front more and let the loop sit back a bit. Of course, mixing on the fly so-to-speak doesn't exactly lend itself to exactitude. I am, though, amazed that you could pull this off so well. (Well, actually, YOU could probably pull just about anything!) I hope one day I, too, can travel with a laptop and actually write something...
Great listen, Bud.
Peace.
Paul

bud said 101 days ago
Always a friend Paul
Nice hearing from you. I was thinking the same thing about lifting the Melodica - but I left it low so as not to stir the water too much.

tokai said 103 days ago
relax i did
very hypnotic. Bass is right up there, carries the piece like smoke rings. wonderful timing and masterful musical dubness. I love this.

bud said 101 days ago
Hail tol the power of Dub
Thanks Tokai

Welcome back!
Yeah boy, "laid back" and just oozing coolness!

Very creative take on the original loop. Wonderful stuff my man!

Be well friend!

bud said 101 days ago
Oozing -
sounds like a serious condition - what you been smokin'? Cheers Michael - I have a lot of catching up to do when I get home.

davisamerica said 102 days ago
yes indeed ..
this works so well ... brilliant choice on use of the loop. You the Dog Man !!

bud said 100 days ago
Thanks Jack
Man it seems like ages since we've been in touch - I gotta stop by your place.

sloparts said 102 days ago
Bud, you outdid yourself on this one
Love how you used the loop in the percussion section, The bass line is thick and full and the drums fill in the blanks just fine. The melodica sounds really cool in there carrying the song along.

Very cool piece Bud, thanks for taking time to make sure we got to hear it. it was well worth the effort my friend.

Ed

bud said 100 days ago
Ed - you're very kind
for a while my job over here was a real horror and this was the only fun I was having.

Fine, fine stuff, Kevin. I love it...so easy to glide with...

bud said 100 days ago
Thanks Bob
I got some listening to do. From what I've heard so far - everybody's knocking it out of the park.

rsorensen said 102 days ago
dude
this is super cool. reminds me of Big Sugar when they went through their dub phase. awesome job bud

bud said 100 days ago
Every so often
I get a real hankering for some solid dub. This was a lot of fun. If you haven't heard it - check out Radiodread by the Easy Star All-Stars.

Frenchy!
There's a scene in a Parisian night club in the Harrison Ford movie"Frantic" that this song immediately put me in mind of. I don't know from French dub - must you must have nailed it!

bud said 100 days ago
Look what you started
Thanks! I'll have to check out the film.

Youra said 102 days ago
Paris groove ?
Sounds like the atmosphere of the city has somewhat inspired you. Even if Kingston is quite far from here, we were at a time a capital for "word music" (a local trend fostered by Radio Nova). Next time you turn around, let me a message and I'll be glad to share a glass of Bordeaux with you.
Great to hear from you again, Bud.

bud said 102 days ago
Youra -
I can't seem to send you a note - hopefully you will read this. I am here till Wednesday afternoon and only busy today and tomorrow. I'd love to hook up if you have time.

WillyB said 102 days ago
...
cool sounds Bud..and very tasteful arrangement. It would have been easy to go overboard with sounds on this track, but you played it all out perfectly.

bud said 100 days ago
I appreciate that
I was starting to head into Lee Scratch Perry territory when I decided to hold back.

Char said 102 days ago
I like this very much.
Yes, He'll be stepping out and shaking his finger and smiling before he knows he has left the building. But, then, it will be too late. You charmed him just like a fakir charms a snake. Thanks.

bud said 100 days ago
That's real sweet of you Char
Thanks!

CaptSloParts said 102 days ago
Ah, the veterans alway make a stand
and it's a good thing to. Here you are showing your prowess in disguising loops without smothering them. This will encourage others to learn from you example and seek ways to improver their skills.

I commend you for you efforts on this one Bud

bud said 100 days ago
Veterans -
you mean old guys - right? OK - I admit it. Thanks for digging the tune.

Vic Holman said 102 days ago
melodica
that's some cool melodica playing. I'm surprised you never used it before. or at least that i know of. very smooooooooth!

bud said 100 days ago
I used it once before
on Drift I think - more for atmosphere than melody. I love the instrument - but it takes a lot of wind and practice to really play well.

Rik_Berryere said 102 days ago
Paris?
At times I was in Paris, sipping some wine in a sidewalk bistro on a dangerous rainy night when mysterious people, walking by just a little too slowly, caught my eye and then hurried on.

Then I think I was in Jamaica, sipping a cold beer on a blistering hot sunny day under a straw hat as cars chugged past in the street, and someone watched me from the back seat as their car blatted by.... and I'm wishing I was somewhere cooler, rainier, and thinking about Paris.

Dropping the loop into a percussion track was genius. As I mentioned in someone else's comment section, I wish I could think as out-of-the-box as this - I just dress'em up funky and kick'em out the door.

Superb tune. Thanks for the trip!

bud said 100 days ago
Thanks Rik
I live out of the box - which ain't always easy - especially in the winter - or when it's raining. Love you for keeping the challenge alive and funkin' it up the way you did.

Outtaorbit said 102 days ago

Patrick - right?
Thanks a heap.

Bud...
Nice journey with that bass as the driver, reggae!

bud said 100 days ago
Appreciate TG
glad you stopped by. I gotta get over to your place soon.

Elevator_Funk said 102 days ago
Very Chill!
I'm jealous. Only the coolest people play the Melodica.

bud said 100 days ago
That means you were
meant to play the Melodica and never knew it until now.

Diviner said 102 days ago
Brilliant
I love Augustus Pablo, and this track is fantastic. Love the bassline and dub workings. Really cool track Bud, very impressed, its so authentic old style dub esp the accorodion. Nice one.

bud said 100 days ago
Thanks Diviner
The accordian is actually a Melodica - same as Mr. P's playing in the picture.

Rocha Malhada said 102 days ago
Ya, Mon
I didn't even think of an application for the loop in Reggae - but percussion for Reggae? Hehe, brilliant

. - Harold

bud said 100 days ago
Harold - man
you're too kind. First thing I do with any loop is slow it way down to see what''s there.

HenriROGERsoloandbands said 102 days ago
Reggae

I'm not a reggae fan .
The melodica idea and playing are very nice .

bud said 100 days ago
I won't tell any of my mates in Kingston
Glad you could dig the tune. I've had a wonderful time the last few weeks here in Paris.

wurzel said 102 days ago
Chilled
listening. Think I might buy a melodica soon. Good work :-)

bud said 101 days ago
Thanks for you comment
Everyone should own a melodica - they're great fun - and good exercise too.

lavalamp said 101 days ago
Cool
I'm doing something I don't do as often as always. Listening with cool headphones. This sounds remarkable.

Only gripe is about the abrupt ending, if you want to be a perfectionist.

Dave

bud said 100 days ago
The ending is a bit abrupt
I didn't want to fade - and considered doing a big delay/reverb out thing - but never got around to it.

lengold said 101 days ago
Love this
Great feel and groove.
Cheers
Len

bud said 100 days ago
Thanks Len
I gotta get back in the game. Nice hearing from you.

announcer said 101 days ago
great arrangement
this has some great hooks with different instruments that makes it very listenable and keeps it interesting. When listening I notice that overall it is straightforward in its approach and its structure. It is this icing that makes it.

bud said 100 days ago
So nice of you to take the time to listen
and dig the straight ahead approach. Thanks.

michael2 said 101 days ago
bud
this is great, you really got the feel right here. when i think of the melodica, I think of dub and you nailed it. you should put out a whole albums worth of this stuff. way into it.

bud said 100 days ago
What's Bud spelled backwards?
Hmmm. Thanks Michael - great idea.

dajama said 100 days ago
Excellent
This is truly cool. I think the idea of converting to percussion is genius; of course, why am i surprised? You always approach these things with terrific creativity. This had me totally zoning to another place. Brilliantly done. Very cool. Peace.

five_extra_arms said 100 days ago
Ya Mon!
Hey Bud, this is terrific. You have captured the spirit of Paris and Augustus Pablo all in one hit.

Sounds like you're having fun in Paris.

Thanks for a great download.

Smooth track-
Very nice job making the loop fit in this way. I had toyed with changing it to a drum sound, but I soon abandoned that approach. Nicely done, sir!

cjdaley said 99 days ago
Hey
You told me about this when we met in Paris.

It's way cooler than parisian vibe I know of and nice way to chill out after some arctic trekking.

those bzzz sounds ar especially wicked.

Thanks for passing this around.
