Description This song's about a bunch of cool opportunities that recently came to me out of nowhere, and my fear of having them taken away. It's also about my realization of how blessed I am to have such a great family and how I would go to great lengths to protect them.
I tried a few new things on this one - doubled up on the vocal tracks but kept them centered, tried a different time signature than my usual 4/4 (and spent a lot of time editing drums as a result), and tried an overlapping vocal chorus.
Oh - the (edited and effected) 'Walking Clav' loop makes appearances during the second half of the verses and the outro.
Lyrics Well I can't believe what I'm seeing
It is all happening way too fast
Just yesterday all these roads were uneven
Now they are straight and they're built to last

I can't believe everything that is happening
Somebody wake me up from this dream
I know that things do not happen by accident
But things never happen like this to me

Please don't take this away (Don't you take this away)
Don't you take it away (Please don't take it away)
Please don't take this away (Please don't take this away)

I am a man who is blessed and I know it
I will never second-guess this reward
I am a man and I'm not scared to show it
I'll be as strong as my daddy before

I'll lift you up and I'll guide and protect you
Stand up by your side with my ready sword
I'll never let anyone try to harm you
and you will not be afraid anymore

Please don't take this away (Don't you take this away)
Don't you take it away (Please don't take it away)
Please don't take this away (Please don't take this away)

Heavy and thoughtful...like a deep prayer then
its so alt sound ..great vocal work .loved the acoustic
sound there ..very tight ..kudos ..thnx alot for sharin !!!!

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks feter. wasnt sure about this one in the beginning. I was going to scrap it until i came up with a vocal melody that worked aright. glad you like it

lavalamp said 103 days ago
Foo Fighters
Sounding much like an acoustic version of the Foo Fighters. David Groll-ish vocals. Hope you take that as a compliment.

Sensational Ridd. You got the guitars just right.

LL

rsorensen said 99 days ago

dave grohl's my rockstar hero, so yeah compliment taken thanks!

sloparts said 103 days ago
Excellent song writing
and a stellar performance in all respects. The Epiphone sound clean and rich, and that Firebird just rips through the mix with an awesome sound. The rest of the tracks make this a keeper as well. Did I mention you did a heck of a job on the vocal, because you did.

Great song, excellent production and a finely tuned mix make this on a hit my friend. Thanks for sharing it.

Be well and be cool,

Ed

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks a lot Ed. i'm in love with my guitars so i'm happy you think they sound good. glad you like the vocals, too. I don't usually double up but i was going for a particular sound for this tune.

Karmatoburn said 103 days ago
everything
spot on. You are so gifted Ridd. Your vocal always lures me in. The guitars on the chorus sound lush and the solo (albeit too short :-) is fab. Great job

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks for the kind words, karm. yeah I coulda pushed the solo a little longer for sure. I'm thinking it woulda been cool to have the band come back in really huge at the end for a few rotations as well (after the acoustic break)

davisamerica said 103 days ago
man Ridd
this is great man!

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks a bunch, man

Great Song
This is a really great song. You definitely transformed the evil loop. Particularly like the chorus. Well done.

Thanks
Bill

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks bill! yeah maybe I transformed it a little too much? i tried to stick to the guidelines though so I think it's all good

Relic67 said 103 days ago
whoa
so many things to like in this one...
the feedback... the unexpected chord change out of the chorus.... the way the chorus contrasts but reinforces the theme... the guitar solo....
just awesome. could be a hit for sure.

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks relic. yeah the feedback's one of my favorite elements in this one. i love the feedback

HenriROGERsoloandbands said 102 days ago
Very good song

The loop is well hidden but you made a great song out of it . Very good job on all parts .

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks. yeah it's a little buried in there but i definitely like what it's doing

WillyB said 102 days ago
ok..
...so what's with all you canucks kickn so much butt lately? WOW. Great stuff. glad I found your music bro. I gotta get up there and get some of that water..or is it the beer?

rsorensen said 99 days ago

well, i drink German beer so maybe it's the water? thanks dude.

dajama said 102 days ago
Lovely
The guitar is really nice on this. The acoustic sound rocks, and your vocal is perfect - warm and filled with feeling. I'm with lavalamp on the Dave Grohl comparison, which for me is a compliment! A nicely structured song, with good lyrics and some really nice changes. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

rsorensen said 99 days ago

you all can keep the grohl comparisions coming as far as I'm concerned. the man's a rock god. thnks dajama glad you like this

CaptSloParts said 102 days ago
Oh yes, the subtle attack
rather than a club, we will use a pin prick with the poison on the tip of the pin. This is an approach that often gets better results than the club.

In this particular case, I can predict a 97.27 percent chance of success.

Another fine job of taking the Dr to task.

rsorensen said 99 days ago

hah thanks cap. i like those odds

Dave & David
i think nailed the foo compare. can't go wrong with that.

excellent tune all around. killer chorus deluxe.

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks vic. yeah that chorus is a little different for me. glad you think it sounds alright

Diviner said 102 days ago
Wow, what a good track
This has been really well written, you are certainly talented. I like the tracks I hear from you esp the collabs. Nice one and well done.

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks diviner. the collabs are always a blast. thanks for listening to them

Rocha Malhada said 102 days ago

Great song
and a full sound. Likes :-)

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks wurzel

Lennon714 said 102 days ago
this is great
From the message to the songwriting to the production. My one nitpick is that on the chorus I expected the electric guitar to punch through a little louder. Consider the source of this nitpick, though.

Fantastic solo. There's an absence of "Family life is for sell-outs" attitude here at MJ and I love that. GREAT song. Thanks for this.

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thnks lennon. i figure why fight the family/kids themes? it's my life. really glad you like this. I agree the chorus guitars could be a touch louder. will have to work it out next master

michael2 said 101 days ago
really
great song. catch as all hell, and your vox sound great. forget the loop, this is awesome, love that feedback and finger picking outro. really great Ridd (especially since you managed to fit the dreaded clav 01 in there. carry on.

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks dude. happy you like it. i really dig your logic experiments. cant wait to hear you rip it up with that program

tempie said 100 days ago
solid tune
I like the solo and the fading feedback at the end. The entire tune is simple and just well done. I like the real lyrics, true what others have said about the foo fighters comparison (specially the later, more confessional stuff). You put yourself out there with the theme and it works, really nice song dude.

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks man. i've been checking out your stuff too. really nice!

gail60 said 100 days ago
whoa.....
Another awesome tune Ridd. You are tha man! :) You continually blow me away. This is a grrreat song and I love the double rich vocals here. Wonderful lyrics, great beat...and would not change a thing here! Thanks for sharing!

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks gail. we gotta do another collab soon, ok? it's your turn to come up with the music so send me something :)

SmokeyVW said 99 days ago
excellent
love the guitar - both the quality of the sound and the playing. and the vocals, and everything. nice.

totally forgot to listen for that loop :-)

thanks

rsorensen said 99 days ago

thanks smokey glad you dig it

bud said 99 days ago
This really speaks to me
I feel blessed as well - by your music and my family. Great stepping out of the box and comfort zone to do something new. It's a fantastic song and all of your efforts are richly represented. Fantastic! I got a slight Built to Spill vibe from the verse sound. Cool.

rsorensen said 98 days ago

thanks bud. we're definitely blessed to have a place like this where we can listen to all this amazing music. You nailed it on the head with that BTS reference. I was trying to go for the vocal sound Doug Martsch uses on his solo album

rockstar89 said 99 days ago
Nice
Reminds me of something I would have heard on the Foo's acoustic album a while back. I like this a lot.

rsorensen said 98 days ago
that's a
great album. thanks for listening, glad you like it.

You, my friend
Are a great writer. Seriously, these songs really got to me, (in the good I want more, not the i can't take it way):) thank you.
