Description Since Dr. LIOLI was going to destroy our MacJams City, I decided to send him way out past pluto along with his walking clav. I was not powerful enough to send him further away so be careful ... he may return someday.

FYI this contains the Walking Clav as the generator for most of the sounds in this piece with the exception of the the percussion, the guitar, and the syths in the bridge. In all there are eight tracks in parts of this song that contain the LIOLI challenge loop all at the snail's pace of 40 BPM. I hope you enjoy it.
Hardware I mac G5
Software: GB etc.

Cool
This is very cool. It has the solemn progress of a march, married to the exotic energy of a flight into the blue. Percussion is very cool; I'm reminded for some reason of Art of Noise. Great production, and excellent track. Nicely done. Peace.

'preciate it
I had fun putting this together and working with that loop trying to make something listenable out of it.

sloparts said 103 days ago
Sounds like a dirge,
for Dr LIOLI in the beginning Bill. Then it takes off and get heavy with all the other stuff coming in. Very cool use of the loop, in all those tracks. I thought I did good to use it in 3 tracks. But 8 tracks worth, that must be a record or something.

A lot of power and energy here in the last part of the song that just keeps building. Very cool indeed, very cool.

Thanks, Ed
8 tracks is probably enough of that loop. As ugly as the loop sounds it is really so simple that it allows a lot of fun iterations with different instruments. I don't remember off the top of my head what synths I used but I think it was Fretless bass, Trance bass, a preset called Fiji afterglow one as the original key and one 7 semitones up and 3 tracks of Floating embers in octaves and harmonies and one called Sanur shimmer.
Many of these are modified to some extent from the original settings.

thanks so much for the use of your ears for a few minutes. I like these challenges cause they make me work and think. Keeps the brain in high gear.

lengold said 103 days ago
Fantastic groove

Cheers

Thank You, Len
I was really surprised how fast this one came together for me. Once I chose the basic sounds, I just put the icing on the cake.

8-tracks
8-tracks of spacey goodness, Bill. I really love the way you've mixed those guitars, especially. I think this is definitely the track to be played at Dr. LIOLI's funeral.

I love the way you took the loop apart. We have another song that we've gotten underway doing the same thing with this loop. It was surprisingly versatile. You've done wonderful things with it. The sense of space in the mix is fantastic.

announcer said 102 days ago
Orbiting ... thanks
Since what I do is all loop based, perhaps I tend to think of loops, especially midi loops, as simple generators and starting points for my work. In this case the loops are generally intact, it is the instrumentation and the effects that create the differences. I seldom leave them alone and seldom play them as the original instrument.

peacepiano said 103 days ago
Super Looper
This gets the "super looper" award in my book. This sinister march should send Dr LIOLI to the tenth planet--I mean Plutoid. I like your very powerful mixing.

Thanks
Bill

Thanks mr. piano
Some really good entries in this challenge. I'm glad you liked mine.

...
hey neighbor. Love this track...everything about it, nothing overused and very tasteful arrangement. Which part of the state are you in? ..Northeast here.

Powerfull

Very well built progression .

CaptSloParts said 102 days ago
That's the ticket
Lull him into thinking here watching his minions trudging away in the mines and labs. Then spring the trap slowly, a little at a time. He'll never know what hit him until it's way too late to do anything about it.

Very good tactic here. ( remember, there's a test on this stuff on Tuesday so pay attention )

Test LOL
I often have to tell my students to "write that down ... you may see it on a test soon"

Babylon 5
This reminds me of the incredible music that Christopher Franke recorded for the sci-fi series Babylon 5 back in the early 90s. You've done some mind-blowing stuff with the loop here - I'm hearing it in all its glory, but you've painted a vastly different landscape here without hiding it in any way.

Stunning. Just stunning.

announcer said 102 days ago
That was my tactic
don't hide the sucker back in some obscure corner of the song ... use it proudly and often. Kind of like my philosophy regarding the use of a certain part of my anatomy. :)

Vic Holman said 102 days ago
extra mileage
wow, Bill you took that loop to the infinite and created a excellent piece.
i don't know what the original loop was but I'm sure i wouldn't of recognized if I did.

announcer said 102 days ago
Thanks Vic
The original loop is pretty simple which is why it worked when slowed down to the 40 BPM. Especially since they were eighth notes. That allowed some of the echos on the trance bass and the steps on the digital stepper synth to do their things without me having to rewrite the loop. For me this was an exercise in choices and assembly, rather than rewriting.

Char said 102 days ago
This is the 12th Lioli piece
I've listened to. I kept picturing prisoners plodding along between high concrete walls as they were chained together by leg irons. (Gulag) Relentless, hopeless and yet driven. Then, it could be a concert given by the autobots in car factory, turning out a finished car every 30 minutes. It sounds dangerous. I listened twice.
Thanks.

announcer said 102 days ago
Thanks
I'm glad you got those images from this. I had different images in mind, but I like yours too. When you make your sci-fi prison movie, use this if you like. :)

Elevator_Funk said 102 days ago
Now....
....that's how you use a loop!

announcer said 102 days ago
and that
is how to leave a comment! Thanks.

Diviner said 102 days ago
Brilliant
Really good use of the walking clav, fantastic. I can see why dajama thought of Art of Noise because before the track gets to the guitar it sounds like 'Moments in Love'. Then it changes when it comes to the guitars and after, thats when it gets very developed and psychedelic. Really good track and great production.

announcer said 102 days ago
Thanks
If you listen to a lot of my stuff, I really like to use a build in a song. Develop a theme, add a layer or two, add a different layer, then poor it all on. It is an old formula, but it still works.

Alannah said 102 days ago
OH ....
.. I like the slowed down "March of the Walking Clavs" on this one ..... and then when the "darkness" entered .. I was hooked .... I enjoyed the BEND of this loop by you ! You truly took it to a whole new level !

announcer said 102 days ago
The darkness
Indeed. Never though of the bridge as being the darkness. Thanks for showing me the "light" about that one. I always appreciate a comment from you.

Rocha Malhada said 102 days ago
epic proportions
s l o w e d it, did it for this one, maybe the doctor should consider using it for the soundtrack of his next movie depicting his own destruction... :)

Moody
sinister and creepy. That'll show the evil Dr.

regulus said 101 days ago
At that
I some power stuff you have there. Good mind set. Great classic chops you have here rolling off your dexterous digits on that axe of your. great composition, like the swells and layering. Kept thinking Moody Blues. That's good company with me. So good in fact I'm gonna get a copy for myself.

Definitely a Loopertrooper in my book.

michael2 said 101 days ago
nice one
love how you slowed it down so much, great idea. all of the wild percussion and the gtr take it way past Pluto, don't worry; he's done for.

bud said 100 days ago
Great track -
A man after my own heart - slow it the * down and see what's happening. Wonderful creativity and excellent guitar work.
