Keywords loop (39)
Description This is for LIOLI 8. The loop is used prominently but in a classier voice! So naturally I improvised over this using the remarkable clavinet voice that the loop was created in. This is a bit light, but I hope it will deflect the evil Dr.

this is interesting ..its seems like comin from
the late 70s early 80s ..roboto ? ..is cool.
thnx alot for sharin !!!!

peacepiano said 103 days ago
Feter
Good to hear from you. The rhythm suggested by the loop is kind of early 80s-ish. Thought I would work with the loop instead of around it :)

wurzel said 103 days ago

Thanks for stopping by.

at times
it turns into a guitar I swear! hypnotic! at the end it transforms into a different song! Excellent!

peacepiano said 103 days ago
Egobandit
I don't really know what a real clavinet sounds like, but this is what my keys and computer made of the GarageBand version. Lots of reverb and panning, with no additions from me, this is the voice of the original loop!

announcer said 103 days ago
Good use of the loop
Such a simple loop that it really calls out for the key changes and persistent nature of the way you used it here.

Nice soundstage and mix.

peacepiano said 103 days ago
Announcer
Key changes were definitely needed here. Thanks for the comments.

Love the drive and energy in this Bill
I hate to say this, but after playing that loop for the last few weeks I never thought it would actually sound good to me. But somehow you've managed to use it and make it sound great. Love the whole piece my friend, the whole thing is fabulous.

Thanks

Ed

I didn't have a lot of time available, so I played around with ways to use the loop like I did in a previous LIOLI challenge. Glad you enjoyed the result.

I love...
all those cool looking retro keyboards you have there!
The melody is equally cool.

Transformation

You did a very good job just transforming the loop .
This king of music is much played as backgroung music on TV .

peacepiano said 103 days ago
Henri
Enjoyed your comments. I can definitely see this as tv backing music.

I am not...
...a big fan of loops per se, yet you have put something really interesting together here and "controlled" your base source, fashioning it to your own purposes and giving it a unique flavor. For some reason it reminded me of a bass jaws harp, if there ever were such a thing. It's that low twangy business, I guess. Very pleasant on the ears. Oh, and I love the picture.
Peace.
Paul

peacepiano said 103 days ago
Paul
Thanks for the comments. The twang came from adding the compressor to the organ track which I added for the following convoluted reasons: The Keyboard Express Organ is an old plug in and not very efficient, so I converted it to a "real instrument", but at the end after sculpting my volume curves I wanted it a bit louder, so I added the compressor to the track because it has a gain function. I was going to reduce the distortions but I liked how it came out. The picture and many others are at the Eboardmuseum online.

paul f. page said 103 days ago
Well...
...I would be lying if I said I understood all the compression business, etc., but it sure is impressive that you were able to put this together so professionally. How clever of you!

Coolness!
I really dig the sound of the clav...I've just never been able to figure out how to incorporate it in my music. Sigh...

A gentle trance-psyche thang this! Very well done. Spacious and clean mix to boot. KUDOS Bill on a worthy entry!

Be well friend!

peacepiano said 102 days ago
Michael
The clavinet is especially difficult. It doesn't blend well with other instruments. Not sure if its the percussiveness or the tuning, but here it is most of the show so there is no need to blend. Thanks for the kudos!

said 102 days ago
Ah HAH!
Thanks for the explanation. I think you may be right. Back when I first started at MJ I was doing loop music only.

One of the tunes I submitted was a jazz-rocker that heavily employed the clav.

The piece worked really well (an independent radio DJ even asked me for permission to play it on his show in Florida), but I think this was because it was solidly based around the clav. It doesn't seem to work as well as a merely supporting instrument.

Be well friend!

swirly
a good trip through the head phones.

at the beginning I was thinking "how would this sound with drums?" then they came in at that moment. ESP.

nicely done

peacepiano said 102 days ago
Vic
Yeah, the clav is using a lot of auto panning. The drums were added to give me cues as I played the clav part, but they do fit pretty well, so they stuck.

Rik_Berryere said 103 days ago
Late, late at night
and I'm watching a very, very surreal movie that I can't quite place. At times I'm in the movie. Nobody speaks, but there's lots of traveling and grinning with penguins and businessmen riding buses.

Love the gentle, swirly grooviness that permeates the sound. Excellent entry!

peacepiano said 102 days ago
Rik
Hope the movie came out okay. Glad you heard the grooviness in the clavinet.

Char said 103 days ago
Okay.
I'm not a musician. I was smiling when you added... organ and the quicker tempo melody. That was very entertaining. Huh! Amazing what genius can do. Thanks.

peacepiano said 102 days ago
Char
Thanks for listening and commenting. If it sounds good to a non-musician it must really be good!

WillyB said 103 days ago

this has a great feel. that clav loop is a natural 80's fit, and you flowed right with it. Especially loved the arrangement.. the way you brought it up and down and shifted gears. Very cool ending too

peacepiano said 102 days ago
WillyB
Shifting gears is something I have to think about, (I could noodle around all day on the same chord) but it does seem to help make the music more interesting. Thanks for listening.

From the first inkling
to the final volley, this one has destruction written all over it. I have to admit at this point, I am amazed at the versatility of the MJC Super Loopers. this one included

There seems to be no end to the variety and potency of these weapons aimed against the Evil Dr.

This one too

Glad you appreciate the simplicity.

Alannah said 102 days ago
I think .....
... I felt my head bobbin back and forth .... could it have been the panning ... or was I actually dancing in my chair ?????

peacepiano said 99 days ago
Alannah
Ha Ha

Hope it was dancing and not an adverse effect of the panning :)

nice job to butter up the loop, but the kick in there was nice and strong keeping everything going.

you made the thing sound pretty, i love the sounds you got. really amazing when the drums come in too. all of that wah is so soupy and nice, makes me feel good listening to it. great track.

I love how you stayed true to the loop and made a song out of it. I mean, we all did, but instead of breaking the loop down and building a song out of the spare parts, you built it up out of what's already there - a much more difficult task, if you ask me. Good job!

said 100 days ago
Excellent take-
Nice idea switching the "voices" like that. When it started I thought you'd taken the loop and dissected the notes- until the actual loop started in. This is certainly upbeat with lots of twists and turns. Nice job!

SmokeyVW said 99 days ago

i like how you took the loop at face value and upped the quality. very nice. got me thinking about some Alan Parson Project tunes here.

thanks

peacepiano said 97 days ago
Bill
Oooh, compared to Alan Parsons, not sure if I can really live up to that, but thanks!

thoddi said 98 days ago
u loop it well
Interesting that a repeated small loop can be used like a base for a tune and be held alive all the way. Pretty cool.

peacepiano said 97 days ago

Thanks, good to hear I kept it from being tedious.

I liked the way you built this up and avoided some of the more obvious cliches of snare on 2 & 4.

When ever I use drum loops, the risk of being cliche is strong! Thanks for listening.
