Description Growing up, all the cool rock songs were about the Devil. This is my Devil rock 'n roll tune.
Lyrics Sometimes the Devil is looking for an eye to catch
and i just happen to look his way
and then you're dancing in the kitchen to the radio
and all I can think about is running away

Sometimes there's nothing you can do but run
(that's what the Devil says)
Cut your losses and move along
Sometimes there's nothing you can do but run
(that's what the Devil says)

Sometimes the Devil is looking for an eye to catch
and I just happen to look his way
and then you're laughing beside me with your hair undone
and all I can think about is running away

Devilishly
well done tune.

It sound to me as though it would be a little wider, more body, or a little EQ'ing on the master track, deeper tones over all. or Maybe it could use another rhythm beef up track and each panned to op. sides.

Just a thought, though it is a stand alone great tune as is.

I have enjoyed some of your other tunes as well. great stuff

tempie said 104 days ago
i hear you
and agree...i'm always trying for a "wider" sound but with my equipment have difficulty finding it..i'll let it sit for a while and then give the mix another go .. thanks for the listen and the help!

the devil
what a rockin tune. The guitars are big and the vocals crush. nice little jam interlude in there.

tempie said 104 days ago
jam interlude
was inspired by the drive by truckers, they always have a great raw lead sound and they share my love of open notes in solos. Glad you liked it and thanks for the listen man.

Devil
This sounds like it would be a great piece to play. It's got that classic feel to it. There's a lot going on instrumentally, which gives it nice depth. I especially like the ending.

tempie said 104 days ago
you're right
this really is fun to play. i always break strings on it. Thanks for the listen!

cjdaley said 104 days ago
lyrics cool as usual
great break and chorus as well.

lyrics
thanks man your comments always find the thing in the song that others miss - the lyrics are really simple (because I couldn't think of anything more to add) but I think they're pretty much true.

Running With The Devil
You are such a rocker. Hand claps, shakers and hard driving guitars that scare the devil out of me.

Another cool song from tempie that goes straight to the iPod!

Thanks dude!

tempie said 104 days ago
i like
the idea of the devil rocking your ipod. Thanks man it sounds cheesy but your enthusiasm is very cool - it sends me back to the workstation to work on the next tune.

satanic
The Dark Master will be well pleased with this one.
Love your songs. Agree that the ending is cool.
I wrote a devil song a while back but never recorded it... maybe I will now! on second thought mine was pretty bad...

tempie said 103 days ago
everybody
should have a devil song. Although its not truly satan worthy until it plays backward. nobody's covered that angle here yet that I know of...and thanks for the comment, very cool that you like the tune.

wow man
what a song, this song is great. so catchy and the classic indie form always appeals to me. what did you record with? i agree that it could sound a little bigger. gotta be a way to get you sounding more like the rock star that you are (without buying new stuff). i really , really love this song.

tempie said 103 days ago
wow back at you
Thanks man very cool that you liked it. I used GarageBand. I EQ'd the vocals and the guitar and then tuned the master track to the standard Stadium Rock EQ setting and tweaked it back and forth to get a "bigger" sound. But with GB there are limited EQ settings, and if you resort to effects then the song sounds gimmicky. I'll take all suggestions - I use GB in a fairly narrow way so there may be some functionality i don't know about. Thanks!

hmm...
reading back over the comments - one thing I have not done much of is panning...the suggestion of adding a rhythm track and panning opp sides is interesting. I might give that a try.

rsorensen said 103 days ago
damn
i like this a ton. a lot of attitude here. man. great stuff. really like the chorus and that outro solo. now I have to check out all your other stuff (and write a devil song of my own). awesome.

tempie said 102 days ago
thanks for the listen
glad you liked it man, i'm a fan of your work on mj so very cool to read your comments. i think we should do an mj devil song contest - everybody seems to dig the idea...

energy
cool track with energy.
true panning would take this farther. sounds a bit mono.

i would suggest 2 separate rhythm guitar tracks panned around 9 o'clock & 3 o'clock. maybe one slightly brighter then the other. drums center, bass off a few degrees. main vocal off a few degrees. everything else you can play the field so to speak. and watch the stereo indicators and try to give it a balance. hope this helps in some small way.

plan to pan
thanks i'll definately try your suggested settings. And thanks for the listen!

I concur ..
.. great catchy indie rock tune Craig, just needing some production tricks (I would doubt any requiring any re-recording even) to make this song hit you where it hurts ..as it deserves to. Fine writing, playing, singing and lyrics... s'all good .. just the production letting you down a bit. Panning tracks with either duplicating (or a 2nd take playing the same part) would beef the guitars nicely (as has been recommended) Bass: in GB you can get a fair bit out of that AU 'multiband compressor' .. better still, try some plug-ins like 'Ampeg SVX' .. mastering: try the 'Ozone 3' plug-in demo... see if you like it. I'd also bring the vocals up a bit .. great chorus, don't be shy... thoughtful backing vox too.

Overall I thought you sounded a bit like our Vic Holman here at MJs .. just above .. also shades of our egobandit1 in the vocals too... prolly how you guys accents come across to me.

I liked the kinda soleful motown bass breakdown section too... and passionate solo... though the ending was a little fluffed... who cares .. 'tis great!

Thanks for sharing.
