Description This instrumental romp takes "Why You...," (my first MJ post) in a very different direction: a bit more swing, lots less overdriven rockabilly sensibility, but much more fun with slide and harmony leads. And maybe some deep-space satellite transmissions: strange electro-noise that surfaced as my slide went over the Fender Lace sensor pickups. Aren't they supposed to be ultra low in magnetic interference? Any engineers or rocket scientists, feel free to explain that...

(P.S.: This is a bit of a remastering upgrade from the iC version for those of you who recall my upload there.)
Hardware The band uses same setup as "Why You..." track, which also includes my 2003 Hofner Jazzica and '87 Strat Plus. For this instrumental I added three more Strat tracks with the old Griffin iMic. As always, the Boss GT-6 was my processor.

The underlying tracks were recorded in my old basement "studio" using two 8-track ADATs using makeshift sound isolation tricks (moving tarps, plywood boxes, etc.).
Software: GB 1 on 24 November, 2005; tweaked in GB '08 for MJ. Underlying tracks here were roughed-mixed in Nuendo.

Great update on a great track Bob. I love what you did to this one my friend. The original was hot, but this on is "SMOKIN" HOT

The slide sound really good and the harmony guitars are to die for.

Kudos Bob for a job very well done.

Want washboarD?
Thanks, and I'm humbled, especially now that I don't have a live drummer to work with. Want washboard? Check the YouTube player on my Profile page or click directly to it at YouTube, here. (I'm the hairy one in overalls, rear left on the Telly.)

What a RIOT!

BossHook said 112 days ago
There's some
real sweet pickin' here. You really capture the energy of Dickey and Duane here and in the more swingin' parts I get a total Chet Atkins and Les Paul feel!
Love it. I'll take it.

Bob6stringer said 112 days ago
Who's it sound like?
Well, Boss, ScorpJammer told me it sounded like the late, great Danny Gattton, who I idolized once upon a time. Worth YouTubing. I just wish I could follow this up ... it's al downhill from here...

Ultra-cool
Great groove here and the harmonies are very well done. Cool bits with the slide way up high.

Scorpjammer said 111 days ago
I LOVE IT!
Thanks for posting this one Bob. This tune is one my favorite tunes, period.

It's like Brian Setzer meets Duane Allman.

This tune is so loose and carefree, but tightly composed.

Yeah man, its just a really cool number.

10s/all-time fav!

PS. I knew it would be a hit at MJ.

I'm going to pass this one along to interested listeners.

Yeah
Wow, this rocks. I *am* reminded of Danny Gatton, in both the playing and tone. Great tune!

Scott Carmichael said 111 days ago
authentic fun
I would love to see this live... it harkens back to an era when "fun' was enough... and this is way fun.. great chops and ferocious attack...

I think authentic is the one word I would use to sum up this post...

you're firing on all cylinders here

feel good romp
Love it... this has me bouncing in my chair. Very fun choice of melody and switch to refrain... I smirked all the way through. Excellent sense of timing and humor, and extremely well-played!

Thanks Scorp, Pete, PErceptual, Scott...
Sincere thanks for your encouragement. I can't take credit, though: it came to me the night I forgot to wear my tinfoil hat! Scorp, you know I'm plug-shy, and I'm grateful for your support. I hope I can do music thsi fun again soon.

Would that we could always, only smile when we picked up our axes...

Massive fun tune.
Sorry if I drew you out on center stage, on this one, Bob. he he.

I knew once MJers heard it they would love it. This number spills over with fun and the joy of playing. It's so inviting. How anybody not like it?

Like I said, this song stands on its own merits, but your replying to these forum comments puts a 'face' on the 'voice' of a kickin' tune...

Your atrist's page is way cool, BTW.

Hold on while I slick back my hair
This is a bit rockabilly like. Just missing the slap bass.

Great guitar work, especially the way the multiple parts work together.

I admit this is a fun tune, but let's not get carried away... Chet? Les? I'm just a garage noodler. Still, I thank you from the bottom of my concrete floor.

Amazing playing, with real swing and style. Lovely melodic sense and terrific dynamic arrangement. The playing is just out of this world. Wonderful stuff. This brings a smile to the face! Very cool. Thanks for sharing. Peace.
