Description I think I got up on the wrong side of the bed.

Copyright 2008 Boss Hook Music
Lyrics I was there when they put you in the ground
It seemed more sad when the rain came falling down
Didn't say anything to your mother or your wife
I have no sympathy for an enemy for life
But I stood there just the same
Watched you buried in the rain
Your kids have grown so much
I watched them as they cried

Goodbye Charlie
You never should have lied
Goodbye Charlie
They hate to see you die

And I'm still here to see you dropped into the ground
It feels so good to know you'll never be around
We had our differences and the difference for us now
Is your in that wooden box
and I'm still out on the prowl
And the rain fell softly down
On your wife in her black gown
Your kids have grown so much
I watched them as they cried

Goodbye Charlie
You never should have lied
Goodbye Charlie
They hate to see you die

But I'm delighted
Delighted that your gone
You f'in ******* should have never done me wrong

Very Dark but sweet
I love it some very interesting use of familiar tones in a very un familiar setting. vaugly reminds me of "Part man part monkey" by Springsteen.
Great stuff.

Thumbs up...
We've corresponded on this earlier... now all you need's a set of Ono sidewalls. You know how I rate this one: Two Thumbs Way Up. (What they're up may have something to do with why you're so ticked off on this tune.)

Goodbye Charlie
Wow Boss - this is frickin' fabulous!

MarkHolbrook said 115 days ago
Well...
If you got up on the wrong side of the bed John it sure wasn't musically! Man Mr. Feter called this right on! This is a power rock tune for sure!

I like everything everything about it but personally I could see two small changes. Vocals at times tend to beat with the BG music. This could just be my ears... I wonder if a little EQ and less reverb on the vocal might bring it forward a bit.

But simply put John this is a killer great tune! Thanks for sharing!

BossHook said 115 days ago
Mark,
I appreciate the mix notes, I had a hard time with the vocal in the mix and will try it drier with less verb on it. Thanks for stopping by.

Poor Charlie...
You should listen to "I'll be sad when you're dead" http://www.macjams.com/song/46133
Sounds like you didn't like Charlie much. Cool song, very much "groovin' up slowly", and with that short reverb it's got a mid-seventies John Lennon vocal sound to boot.

BossHook said 114 days ago
Thanks Jim,
I love the production value on those first Lennon solo albums and often try to imitate it when I am putting a tune like this together. I will check out the other tune for sure.

BossHook said 114 days ago
Just so
people know, this has no autobiographical significance. I often just go outside of myself and try to assume a mood or character to write with. The ascerbic brutality of the image of someone actually attending a funeral just to confirm the death is just one of those noir moments in my mind, and we all have those dark moments, no?

jiguma said 114 days ago
Good one!
Lots to like here. Great vocal although I'd drop it back a tad.

The rhythm section parts are very tight and generally interesting although the drums get a little repetitive (that open/close hihat on 3 seems to be there all the way through).

I'd suggest having a shot at using a midi drum loop and making it your own with some interesting "drummer ideas". Using a midi drum loop gives you the basic groove pattern, but allows you to go in and modify (with the pencil tool) the notes so that you have almost total control of the detail in the track. Lots of potential for making the kit more interesting. The drums are the only thing that leaps out at me here.

Great song.

very dark...
this has got a very dark funk groove goin on. I think that dark quality adds to the honesty of the song. very intense lyrics, and mood. played with a lot of feeling. good job.

sonnyjim said 114 days ago
Smooth
Cool sound on this. I love that synth; wah is great, the whole thing very 70's (in the best possible meaning, of course). If it needs anything else at all, I'd say a female trio "oooh"ing and "ahhh"ing and picking up that final chorus on the way out. Fine job!

If you can't say anything nice
sometimes it feels good to let it all out. Some people deserve that.

Very strong song. I enjoyed it.

aclarke said 114 days ago
I love it
Slinky music- kind of prowling... you know? Great lyrics... really appreciate that you took the direct approach with it. There was no doubting what you were trying to convey. And as much as I love the turn of a clever phrase sometimes you just gotta lay it out in black and white!

Vic Holman said 114 days ago
double fantasy
oh i see some others caught that as well.

a cool tune that has the classic earmarks of a lennon album. I think you pulled it off marvelously and made all your own.

excellent

Ah yes, an Epitaph for an SOB
Been there done that, felt the same way a time or too but didn't have the guts to say the words. Just stood in silence.

Great lyrics, especially considering the subject matter. Like the Raggae feel of it John and the mix is spot on my friend. Nice guitar work to and your vocal hits the mark for the theme.

Be well and be cool my friend,

Ed

Thanks
Ed, I am diggin' your new pics - you look so relaxed and laid back, I'm jealous.

Charlie is missing out...
...on not hearing this one. Haunting synths in the background that suit the subject matter perfectly.

Very tasty instrumentation as well. It's all in the pocket!

Absolutely
love this. Fantastic.
Downloaded. Thanks.
Cheers

Ouch John
tough stuff... a bit surreal... the whole time I'm listening, I'm hearing Donald Fagen... the lyric & phrasing somehow remind me of DAN... as always you are deft with the craft... and you have communicated more than what is on the surface....

now.... time to forgive

peace; Scott

Yes Scott
the song content is a bit harsh but not real. I sometimes have to go through these cathartic tantrums to be a better person on the outside in the real world.
