Description This song is about my desire for my kids to never let go of their innocence. It clocks in at a whopping 1 minute and 9 seconds. Short and sweet?
I've been posting a lot of songs recently. This'll be the sixth one already in September. I know it's smarter to space them out, but by posting them it forces me to move onto the next one right away, and I feel like I'm on a bit of a roll and wanna keep it going. If you're getting sick of my stuff, dont worry - I'll probably hit that wall soon... or get really busy at work again ;)
Lyrics I am filled up with your spirit
I am overcome with pride
Innocence is what I'm seeing
When I look into your eyes

So don't you ever let it leave you
Always keep it in your heart
It will guide you to a higher place
It will show you who you are

short but very sweet
in deed. Nice to see you doing new stuff, with so much frequency. You have an uncanny knack of writing prolific tunes, always a pleasure to listen to them. Lovely uplifting song.

rsorensen said 112 days ago

thanks tokai. i played with the idea of adding another couple of minutes to this but it didn't feel right. thanks for the kind words.

Innocence
We all hold onto it, or try. That's why you're singing this song, and why we're listening. It's great to be a kid. You can't take it from me! Great song! Thanks for sharing. Terry

rsorensen said 112 days ago

it's important to me that my kids don't become overly insensitized in such an insensitive world. thanks for stopping by, glad you liked this.

egobandit said 116 days ago
Beautiful
I have 2 kids And sometimes I feel like Im the one to take away their innocence by teaching them to grow up. This song touched me its lyrics are what stands out. Short but well received thanks!

rsorensen said 112 days ago

really cool that you can identify with this. thanks a lot for commenting :)

Vic Holman said 116 days ago
short & sweet
lovely tune. when it got to end with the repeated note pattern i almost expect to hear a added version a little more rockin. ya got me.

anyway very nicely done.

rsorensen said 116 days ago
yeah
You know Vic, I actually started a version where some big guitars and drums come in after that end part, because it just seemed like a natural progression, but I wasn't feeling it at the time. I may revisit that idea when I'm feeling a liitle more like rocking out though because I think it would work really well. Thanks for the comment and glad you like this.

Relic67 said 116 days ago
lovely
short and sweet describes it nicely.
great sounding, superbly played guitars as usual.
melody sounds a bit like led zep "that's the way"

rsorensen said 112 days ago
eep
yeah you're right- that vocal melody is almost identical to 'That's the Way' isn't it? drat!
Glad you got into this. Thanks for listening.

lengold said 116 days ago
You can
keep these lovely songs coming every day as far as I'm concerned.
Cheers
Len

rsorensen said 112 days ago

thanks len. working on another one now, but it's a little more plugged in. still, a lot more of these kind to come. thanks for the encouragement

On a roll
A bulky roll with corned beef, hahaha! Keep it up! This is great, and I love the shortness of it. I'm glad you kept it short, since the message is innocence and making it longer would make it more ponderous and not as innocent. Great recording!

rsorensen said 112 days ago
corned beef
now you've gone and made me hungry. yeah i agree - this wouldnt work as well if i made it any longer. thanks a lot Jim.

Description
Read what you wrote on your description. I know what you mean. I have a bunch in the can that just need to be EQ'ed and mixed a bit, but I've been wanting to space them out a bit.

This is such a sweet, heartfelt tune. I don't think we could get sick of your songs.

I wish I had more than just an hour block of free time, lately. Then I would be doing what you've been doing.

Just keep posting, Ridd. You are one of the most respected and talented members here.

Have a nice (and productive) week.

Dave

rsorensen said 112 days ago

yeah i thought of spacing these out but the more i sit on them the less time for writing new ones.
I really enjoy your stuff too Dave. Always look forward to one of your songs. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement

I say
The more the merrier. And the length of this is perfect. Those acoustic guitars sound GREAT. It's almost sickening to hear how every tune you put out sounds so crisp. Bastard. :).

rsorensen said 112 days ago

thanks eric. i seem to have stumbled on a (surprisingly simple) method for recording my acoustics. really glad you dig this and I'm sorry!

magnatone said 116 days ago
innocence
this is beautiful ridd - wish it was a LOT longer

rsorensen said 112 days ago

Thanks Karen. Just put in on repeat! It's almost seamless if you do ;)

cjdaley said 116 days ago
it's a nice
drawing you've done here!

I like a lot this little xylophone arrangement. It reminds me of "junk shop clothes" by the auteurs, one my favorite song ever.

rsorensen said 112 days ago

thanks jc. The xylo is my favorite part. I think I shall use it again. I'll have to check out that song you're talking about.

dajama said 115 days ago
Lovely
The guitar and voice sound lovely, and the sentiment is terrific. The harmonies make me think of Led Zeppelin for some reason. Don't ask me why! Lovely song - perfect as it is. If you have 'em, I say 'Keep 'em coming'! Nicely done. Peace.

rsorensen said 112 days ago

'That's The Way' is why this reminds you of Zep. I accidently ripped them off. Doesnt surprise me though as I listened to that record A LOT in my youth. thanks for checking this out. More to come!

BossHook said 115 days ago
You really
write such memorable stuff and this acoustic piece definitely keeps you on a roll.

rsorensen said 112 days ago

Thanks Boss. Been meaning to check out your recent stuff. Will do that today

michael2 said 114 days ago
man
you just keep cranking them out. this is really sweet, and sounds great. love that acoustic. great track ridd, you're kicking my butt right now.

rsorensen said 112 days ago

just trying to catch up ;)
Thanks michael

guygrooves said 114 days ago
Ridd.....
You're one talented dude. This is so beautiful and way to short lol. I haven't had much time for MJ's lately, but I'm glad I dropped by for this. No suggestions from the peanut gallery here, only that it's to short ;)
I want to know desperately, how you got the acoustic to sound the way you did. I have been hunting for how to do it, and I am hopelessly lost. I have a high end acoustic and a pretty decent mic, but that tone and panning effect you have with this, completely escapes me. Are you willing to share? :) If not I understand.
Great tune bro.

rsorensen said 112 days ago

thanks guy, yep shortest song I've ever done.
Dude I don't do anything special at all. Really, in fact I'm embarassed to say all I do is point my snowball mic to the area on my guitar where the neck meets the soundhole and hit record. I think it sounds so sweet because A) It's actually a really good mic, and B) I EQ it quite a bit until it sounds good. The other thing I'll often do is record two acoustic tracks and pan them left and right a little to get that chorus effect. Sometimes I'll play little variations on the part as well to get a cool panning effect like you mention.

You are a real star my friend... Lovely song

rsorensen said 112 days ago

thanks craft. really digging your latest

2nd of your songs to raise the hair on my arms
oh I really like this man. I like the words and the simple composition, the xylophone and the tambourine, the strumming and easy noodling behind it. I just listened to it four times in a row. Great intimate voice. Overall reminds me a bit of Sun Kil Moon which is high praise.

Char said 107 days ago
What a wonderful,
hopeful song written from your heart. Of course, more of the same would be most welcome. Thank you.

Doadars Uncle said 94 days ago
Nice
Great open feeling.

It's a wonder what triggers our own innocence... our children (sometimes).

Thanks for the reminder! I will pass it forward.
