Description My usual nonsense .. just an idea .. enjoy :o)
Lyrics Hey! - it's a beautiful day,
I just thought I'd say,
It's a beautiful day - hey hey.

I said Hey! (hey, hey)
It's a marvelous day (day, day)
It's a wonderful day,
Today- hey, hey.

I said Hey,
It's superlative day,
And come what may,
It's an awesome day, Hey, Hey.

A time to live,
A time to try,
To learn to make steak & kidney pie,
And time left over to wonder why.

Hey! It's a fabulous day,
God made it that way.
So I could stay, today.

I said hey! It's an extraordinary day,
Get up! Lazy!!
Go out and play,
Today.

A time to live,
A time to try,
To learn to make steak & kidney pie,
And wonder why.

Hey !
Nice tune Alan, it's a good idea...
Beautiful melody, played perfectly, nicely sung and well whistled !
Thank you for this new song which brings here a sunbeam which we so need...
Marc

apb said 116 days ago
Thanks Marc

.. inspired by a sunny morning .. that lasted for a lot less than it took to do this recording... typical! lol .. it's 19 tracks (20 if you include the master track) and took 7hrs to record:from nothing to what you hear .. 7hrs for 2:11 .. sheesh... then I gave up ... and went out for a fine meal and a few drinks. I even forgot the 3rd vocal part I planned (and wrote in the lyrics .. a echoing of "hey, hey" and "day, day".. ah well .. to v2!

wot?? no liver and onions??
all the usual daft traits - and so pink! so fluffy!! well done you and thank you for sharing xoxoxo

apb said 116 days ago
:writing

.. liver .. and ..*licks pencil* .. onions. :o) More lyrical suggestions welcome! - I need to make this at least twice as long, sometime in the future... althought the only rhyme I can think of for onions is .. bunions .. hmm ... lol.

This was your welcome back home song, so I'm chuffed you appreciated the pink and er .. fluffed.

Speak soon.

Neat, inspirational song.
I'd probably sooner make a pizza or an apple pie, but that isn't important. You are right. Each day is a gift. Thanks. :)

apb said 116 days ago
Thanks Charlene

.. hmm .. I don't know how to make those though .. I must try sometime.. I do know how to phone for a pizza though! ;o)

'Tis true .. it's an inspirational song of sorts, without doubt .. which is hard for me to do: I'm usually either shouting at God .. or I sound like 'Tiny Tim' going "God bless you, everyone" ..lol... hard to find the middle ground.

lengold said 117 days ago
Hey it's a
fabulous song!
Love the arrangement - the 'ticking' drums work extremely well. Love the chorus reminds me of ELO. Great vocals and whistling. Much too short though. Excellent production, of course.
Cheers
Len

apb said 116 days ago
Thank Len

.. I hear that ELO/Beatles thing in that chromatic shift bit too .. and Floyd too (in that other shift from D to Bm) ..
the only conscience thing I did was to try to add some percussion like "Mika" .. but turned out a bit 'Bolero'...lol.

Day. Perfect backdrop in the pic and song for the Corona & Tekillya moment :)

Enjoyable tune, any way....

Thanks for stopping in!

apb said 116 days ago
What backdrop??

.. must have been a mirage .. the pie has been there all along ;o)

Wonderful indeed
except it's actually rainy and yucky here right now but this song was a bit of sunshine in my day.
Love the title. Wonderful song!
Love all the subtle percussion treatments - expecially the finger tap stuff.
Reminds me of XTC and oh how I love them.
Great tune - thanks for sharing!

apb said 116 days ago
Thanks

.. blimey, I didn't expect anyone to notice the finger tapping on my desk part. Wow - keen ears you got there. Now
I'll need to add one Kinnarps desk to the hardware list .. lol.

thoddi said 116 days ago
sgt. pepper?
Could have been a lost track from that one... I pick up some beatles influences in parts of this...

Perfect lyrics, just how I like 'em... Always looking on the bright side of life:)

apb said 116 days ago
Cheers Thor

.. yup - 'tis hard to use a chromatic scale down .. with staccato cellos and strings beefing it up .. without sounding Beatle-ish or ELOish I find. Definitely some influences on sleeves herein.

VicDiesel said 116 days ago
If you're on the Texas coast
then the definition of a wonderful day is not being blown into the ocean.

We all have our own idea of a perfect day, and it doesn't necessarily involve margueritas under a palm.

Cool song. The creative chords in the "steak and kidney pie" bridge were particularly appreciated.

apb said 116 days ago
Cheers Vic

.. how 'bout a steak & kidney pie (homemade) .. under a palm .. on a still, quiet, calm cool breeze kinda day? ;o)

bug67 said 116 days ago
Super!
Superlative! I love that word. Steak and kidney pie made me hungry. Loved the lightheartedness and positiveness of this piece, Alan. Warmed my day, a-hey, hey!

If Pink Floyd (Syd Barret Floyd) and the Beatles got together, this is how I might imagine the outcome. :)

apb said 116 days ago
Job done

.. job done, Dave.

lol @ "warmed my day, ah hey hey" :o)

Sounds delicious YA know Alan You always take the time and care to create some really interesting and unique compositions. I must say you really put a big smile on my face. Thanks I needed that! Downloaded!

apb said 116 days ago
Cheers Tim

.. not sure about unique .. it's almost anti-unique .. if there is such a thing?? lol. But since it was intended to spread some smiles .. I'm pleased it's been received that way... and if people come back for more .. all the better .. even if they are saying "I wonder what that nutter has been up to this time". :o)

musichead said 116 days ago
short
I thought it was too short. But I like the melody. But Ive always liked your melodies. Id like to hear this song with a drum set about 1/2 way through the song. sounds like you are hitting your guitar or a piano top.

apb said 116 days ago
Thanks Steve

.. yup .. it's half done .. another verse in the middle shouldn't be too much trouble (I've still got "lay, stray and fray" to go .. lol) .. and a return to the ELOish bit ..
definetely worth bringing in some drums at such an addition .. to help the build.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hey hey
My my, rock 'n' roll will never die. Love the upbeat, has that Room Eleven sound to it. Thanks for sharing.

apb said 116 days ago
Thanks John ..

..er what's "Room Eleven/11"? The group?? Or is there some other meaning ..

.. I just heard your One of these days recently .. it really great: I was most impressed by your vocals (although the guitar playing is all phenominal).

R U....
....trying to write a hit? This will be in commercials soon.

Alan nice, catchy tune.
Great job.

Dave

apb said 116 days ago
No .. but ...

.. the cash would come in handy! Hmm commercial application u think? Hadn't thought of that .. but .. I hear what u mean .. maybe I should give YouLicence a try. What kinda advert? (don't say 'steak & kidney pie advert'! lol)

dajama said 115 days ago
This
This put a smile on my face, for sure. The melody is great, and the vocal is top-notch; I especially love the harmony running through the song. Nice lyrics, nice vieb, and a really nice song. Have to admit my favorite part of the instrumentation is the finger-tapping! Just kidding, I love everything, but the finger-tapping is cool. Nicely done. It's raining here, so I really needed that. Peace.

apb said 115 days ago
Cheers Dave

.. lol .. glad u liked the finger-tapping percussion: a result of going 'let's do this in midi' .. and then going .. that's too hard! .. and deciding to just play the darn thing instead, and mix that in .. and see how it sounds :o)

Always glad to raise a smile or two.

Jim Bouchard said 115 days ago
Nice song
Sounds overly-compressed to me, so I think you might have been too aggressive with the limiter in the mastering, but that's probably just me. Or so I would think, if I hadn't just checked my meters in Peak and see that it's consistently in the red. It's sort of a sweet song that I think would sound better sort of quiet. That Ozone is easily abused, and I'm as guilty as the other guy, but I'd hope you would rethink your approach on the limiting.

Just trying to be helpful!

apb said 115 days ago
Over cooked .. :o)

..this pie at 270oC .. my oven goes up to 270!! Yup, your right Jim .. spot on .. twas the 'unlimited' use of the limiter .. easy fix: I'll ease of it when/if I re-visit this and make it longer. Thanks for the heads up. (I need to re-do the bass track as well ..it's fundamentally flawed .. it was crackling and all sorts .. mostly notceable at the opening few bars).

DWL said 115 days ago
Loved the "Beatles" breakdown
in the middle.

Clever stuff, fun song :)

this is
awesome. i wish that I had written this. kind of reminds me of XTC for some reason. what awesome production touches throughout, i'm really blown away by this one. love your voice too. really excellent stuff.

apb said 113 days ago
Thanks Michael

..praise indeed. Glad this resonated with you... and cheers for the vocal compliment .. I'm working on it .. this piece also had a purpose of getting me to flex my 'seldom feel like using' vocal chords.

what a positive vibe
cool song my frind... This is very good to start the day.. well done

apb said 113 days ago
Thanks Antonio

.. glad you picked up on that 'start of the day' quality.

Pete_NB said 114 days ago
What are you so happy about?
Great singing and the mix is awesome.

The song is extremely positive so I was surprised by the downward melody in the "kidney pie" stanza. It still sounded great, and this is entirely subjective, but it seemed to take some happy wind out of the sails.

All in all, a treat as good as steak and pie!

apb said 113 days ago
Thanks Pete

short answer is: sunshine ..and trying to ride the positive vibe that brings. The song is meant to have a bitter sweet edge to it, in a .. how can I put it .. in that kinda early rise, willing yourself or battling even, into appreciation of the simpler wonders of life .. in contrast to mundaner things... even though they can be perceived as opportunities for the taking, and small wonders in themselves.

jiguma said 114 days ago

Good one Alan - good to see you're making the most of what's left of the sunshine :)

oh
what a excellent tune!
It owes nothing to the more known Pop groups of your contry (Peter, Bjorn and John, for instance).
Congratulations!

apb said 100 days ago
Thanks man

.. Peter, Björn and John? Ah... the whistling? Although I'm in Sweden, I'm not Swedish .. I'm thus suprisingly oblivious to much Swedish media. I had to look them up .. and then I recall I've only heard their "Young folks" once on MTV.

I've used occassional whistling in tunes for ages, see Take me down easy ..an earlier song written in my teens, I uploaded in 2006. Deciding to use the whistling was likely motivated by firstly hearing an artist here called slotogenic not being scared to do so .. and perhaps subliminally that "young folks" single, around at that time (2006).

In this song, I never thought twice about it to be honest.. it just seemed natural to use a whistling outro.

Glad you enjoyed it.

yrp said 100 days ago
no no no
I didn´t mean to make a connection between you and them by the whistling. In fact I hate that song.
That cheerfulness seem forced to me and when I watched the video oh my.The loathe duplicated.
But I really like their other songs.
If you are intersted on listening more about them, try "Roll the Credits" on the same album.

I should only say you make great pop music and that´s all.

apb said 100 days ago
Thanks very much Carlos

.. keep saying it as you hear it .. and thanks for the clarification: I was just trying to figure out the reference ... and poorly it seems. I just bought their "Writer's block" album and "Roll the credits" is indeed a very fine piece of music... and no whistling hehehe :o)

I must say, the two Swedish bands that I 'discovered' while here I still really enjoy are "Atomic swing" ("Smile" and the rest of 'A car crash in the blue' album is great) .. and I like some "Teddybears Sthlm" .. particularly 'ahead of my time'... with some cool 70s disco bits .. awesome. :o)
