Description This song was influenced in part by a horrible event that happened in my hometown recently. A mentally unstable man rammed his truck full speed into a Sushi restaurant (on purpose), killing two women and seriously injuring 3-4 more people, including a 9 year old boy who is now in a coma. I find myself thinking about that boy a lot, so I sat down today and wrote this.
Also, being that it's 9/11, I was thinking about that tragedy as well and it seems that it came out in the lyrics too, though it wasn't intentional. Still, it seemed fitting to post this today.
Lyrics I have seen this all before
It happened in a dream
I have seen the skies alight
With fire blue and green

I'm not ready for the end
I need just one more day
I'm not ready to meet you yet
So please just go away

It's someone else fault
That I am like this

Planes are falling from the sky
It happens every day
Cars are crashing into children
While they are at play

I have seen this all before
And it will never end
So don't go looking
For the answers
You can't comprehend

It's someone else's fault
It always is

I read about that
Great full, warm and expressive acoustic sound holding down this back bone. Like the tasteful flavours you've added to it like the slide licks, and that vibro thing at the very end.

The background sounds add poignancy when one considers the inspiration of this song.

Drawn Back
Listening to this again and appreciating some more stuff. I mistook your guitar harmony for a human voice, it was so natural.

rsorensen said 63 days ago

thanks pete. that vibro thing was a happy accident. it was supposed to be just straight up piano, but when I plyed it I accidently rolled up the vibrato wheel on my keyboard. glad you liked this man, thanks

great!
another great tune... well written. not to mention the production. you do the foley/walla yourself by pointing you mic to your back yard? :)

oh man, i gotta get back to writing my own stuff. maybe i'll upload another tech tune i'm doing - as you're leaving me in the dust in the upload department.

"you do the foley/walla yourself by pointing you mic to your back yard?" hah no I should have done that though.
Looking forward to you getting back into writing. Would love to hear some new stuff.

thanks feter. really cool that you could connect with this knowing what you've been through.

within you
pretty, moving song.

the second guitar has almost an sitar, "within you without you" vibe, that fits the mood. The coming of the noisy one is perfect.

rsorensen said 63 days ago

yeah i hear you. the song does kind of have a raga feel. thanks for checking it out.

jiguma said 70 days ago
Very nice track Ridd
Classy song beautifully recorded. I really like hearing a restrained post from you Ridd, I think this works really well (as I type, the fuzz guit comes in). You manage to handle this one with such a gentle feel. Very impressed with your recording on this one.

Neil

rsorensen said 63 days ago

thanks Neil - yep had to get that fuzz in there to hammer the point home :) thanks for listening - really love your latest

Beautifully
moving song - love the guitar imitating the vocal. Fantastic production.
Cheers
Len

rsorensen said 63 days ago

the guitar/vocal thing is something I started doing after hearing 'No Other One' by Weezer. Great great song. Of course Hendrix used to do it all the time too. Thanks len

Man oh man
When tragedy hits home it hurts extra hard.

You can feel the emotion in the words. Kind of an Elliott Smith sound to this. (Which is very cool)

You're quite a talent my friend. What's your story?

Great song!

Dave

rsorensen said 63 days ago

thanks dave, yeah this tragedy really effected me - especially since a kid was hurt. no real story to tell, dave - just love music and thrilled to be able to share it

nicely done
really convy's the somberness of the situation that plays out way to many times. the drop D tuning is perfect match for the overall feel. the restrained backing instruments really added some flair in all the right spots. nice open sound on that acoustic, nice!

rsorensen said 63 days ago

thanks vic. appreciate the thoughtful comments. i enjoyed recording this one. it sounds pretty cool in the headphones for the reasons you mention

touching song. tastefully done. You're arrangements are always perfect for conveying the theme of the song.

thanks eric :)

Haunting!
I too thought the guitar harmony was a human voice at first and it adds to the thought that all is not as it seems in this world. Very deep and meaningful this song and the sounds you put in with the harmonies, guitars ands all make this a great number, regards M

rsorensen said 63 days ago
hmm
thanks M. are you talking about the slide part that sounded human to you? like background vocals?

whose fault is it that you're so freaking good?
you always blow me away.
awsome.

rsorensen said 63 days ago

thanks for your kind words - really glad you like this so much.

michael2 said 66 days ago
so
i forgot to comment. looks like your in an acoustic period right now, and i totally approve. i think that songs that come from real events are always the most touching, and you proved my theory. great everything, keep 'em coming.

rsorensen said 63 days ago

yeah not sure why - just kinda happened. THough the next one's a little more plugged in and frustrating as a result. those drums are always a bugger to do arent they? glad you like this michael, thanks.
