Keywords One of these days (1)
Description Something I come up with about a month ago. It started out to be a bit sarcastic but after working with it I grew to enjoy it. I tried some new angles with my vocals. Still trying to find my self in this area, maybe I should keep looking for someone else to sing for me. Thank you for taking a listen and I hope you enjoy.
Lyrics G D/F#
‘bout the time I finished breakfast
Em Cadd9
I was reaching the end of Texas
A7 Cadd9
Drove right into o’l New Mexico
G D/F#
Beat the heat of day set the AC low...

G D/F#
As I wondered in Arizona
Em Cadd9
Thought I stop and maybe phone ya
A7 Cadd9
Crossed Four Corners into Colorado
G D/F#
Set my sites for Idaho...

Chorus
A7 Cadd9
Look’n for that place one should do all right
G D/F#
Can’t remember where I laid my head last night
A7 Cadd9
You know I’m so tired of all this driv’n around
Em D/F#
One of these days I’m gonna settle down...

G D/F#
Passed on through a cool’d Wyoming
Em Cadd9
Humm’n a tune while the radio’s playing
A7 Cadd9
Lost my way and found Nebraska
G D/F#
Fought some pride and called to ask ya...

Chorus
A7 Cadd9
Look’n for that place one should do all right
G D/F#
Can’t remember where I laid my head last night
A7 Cadd9
You know I’m so tired of all this driv’n around
Em D/F#
One of these days I’m gonna settle down...

Mmmm
Mmmmm .. I am digging. Sounds exactly like TexasFeel. Wow such a nice guitar interplay (listening while writing) ... nice song .. Ah there's another guitar solo .. wow how I dig these guitar inventions of yours!

Backup guitars sounds sligthly out of tune, just little enough to make it nice .. yes I actually dig it .. have always done with your songs. Eh .. what's that .. you've purchased a steel guitar? .. or is it just gb loops?

Summary: A dig-it-a-lot of mine, which will end up on my iPod. Many thumbs up!

Well, John...
...I LIKE your voice. Works great for your sound. A Texas cross of J. Taylor and Hank Williams.
If you really need another vocalist, though, I'd be happy to oblige. I'm self-conscious about my voice, too.
;)
Very cool tune. I love trucker songs. The road. Wide open. Cool addition of the pedal steel.
Sweet licks in there, too...

taken that route!
Great song, so well played and sung!
I've been on that route before in a chevy van, a long road.

driving
you know if James Taylor ever heard this song, i imagine he would of slapped himself on the forehead wondering why he didn't write this.

John, your vocals fit perfectly here, i can't imagine anyone else doing them.

excellent

Very cool song John
I don't see anything at all wrong with this vocal. Vocal quality is great, and you've put a lot of feeling into this one. Sounds really good to me. The rest of the song also sound great. Good clean back tracks that fit the song just right. Just enough reverb to give it a full sound without destroying the clarity . The mix is excellent my friend. Ya dun good man, ya dun good

Be well and be cool,

Ed

What a nice song John
You are getting so good on vocals, its not difficult to argue that you have one of the best voices for this style here at MJ. I love this sort of travelogue song.

Excellent production, guitars are top notch and the song is a killer - JT meets Little Feat.

30 years ago I'd have been playing this until the grooves were worn away on the vinyl - I still love this kind of stuff.

Whatever you do, don't get anyone else to sing FOR you - maybe occasionally someone to sing with you if you must, but your vocals are really spot on.

Thanks for this one John,
Neil

too hard
on yourself John, I wish I could sing half as well as you do

This definitely has your vintage Feel to it, lovely guitar work; steel guitar is a nice touch for the atmosphere of the song.

Love you, brother!

I concur

.. I know you (like me) aren't a confident singer .. and it's a bit hit or miss .. but this is absolutely spot on vocals .. nothing to fault at all. Great tune, fantastic guitars .. no .. phenominal guitars .. and like I said, the vocal performance is top notch .. u can sing without a doubt... perhaps u just need to take this 'care-free' approach more often .. and just go for it!

To me .. I thought I could hear a natural vibrato on some high notes (eg. "laid my head last niiight") that reminded me of Michael Stipe (REM).

All played, recorded and performed to perfection.

Deep bows.
