Description This is a submission for the MacJams Covers Challenge by Racerat and Sonny Jim.

The original song "Strange Jane" by RG Paddler can be found here:
Paddler’s "Strange Jane"

Thanks Richard for giving us permission to pay tribute to your fine tune. It has always been one of my towering MJ favs. As I am sure you can imagine, we gave it a little twist. Sonny Jim is on vocals and some synths. Racerat is on quitars, synths and did the mixing duties. Hope you like it.
Lyrics Strange Jane
by RG Paddler

Well its alright Jane you know I'm gonna be there
As soon as I jump on the next train
That comes a rollin along..
So don't you be drinkin in the backyard
You that papa wouldn't like it
You Gotta remember its over
Though I know you never did him wrong

But she gets so high
Angels are spinning
And She leaves me stoned
Out here on the highway
Where The north wind blows
Over and across the mountains
And no-one knows
The visions that you've seen

Well Do u believe in magic
& Do you believe in love
Well everybodys sayin that Ive been
a-runnin around with you long enough
But janey only livin for dancing
And janey only livin for dreams
Tell me wot a man supposed to do
If he don't know what it means

...when she gets so high - etc

Very nice!
This is a lot of fun. I was turned on to the original through this, and they're both done extraordinarily well and their both a lot of fun, but these are both unique from each other. Great production, too!

A different Perspective
Paddler's original is one of the few songs on my ipod by ANY artist that never gets skipped over. This version is very good interpretation of that... recognizable but original. You know what I mean. Very cool work, nice mix. Great concept!

dajama said 129 days ago
Great stuff
This is beautifully done. The sound is outstanding, and I love that guitar sound. The vocals are perfectly done - lovely performances and great harmonies. The drums are just kickin' throughout. Very cool. Great song, and great version. Nicely done. Peace.

Hey man !
Been informed of your post by mail. I'm not much around anymore, didn't know about this cover challenge, another great idea. Always a pleasure to hear from you. Great number. Keep on playin' your great music buddy !

sloparts said 129 days ago
Well this is different
Not as melodic and Paddlers musically be very cool. There's a much funkier feel to this version that's great especially when you get into the section coming out of the break.

Very cool bit of work on the vocals gentleman, thanks for sharing.

Be well and and be cool

great cover guys. Sounds like you had a lot of fun with the guitars. The vocals on the chorus sound great.

Vic Holman said 129 days ago
cool take!
really extreme and well thought out composition. i really like the variety served up here with the synths & guitars. Vocals on the chorus are great!

also dug the modern Bo Diddley beat here.

cool job boyz

how on earth you thougth of this ???? ... trippy
in a strange rockin way ...the guitar made me high
I bet you enjoyed this lead so much ...its a killer
Kudos !!!!!!!

racerat said 129 days ago
Whoa.
Thanks so much everybody! Sonny Jim and I are happy you feel Paddlers tune was well served. Sonny's harmony vocals are always a treat to the ears and these are no exception. We wanted to take a bit of a spin on Richard's original and funk-it-up a little. Off to take a listen to some of the other MJ Covers!

Cheers,
Philip

woww
this is GREAT!! The guitar work, filtered vocals, drum beat etc work soo well. Reminds me of some of Bon Jovi's late stuff (Queen of new orleans, destination anywhere etc). Love the lyrics too! i'm off to hear the original now.
Bloody well done!

I absolutly
love the effected or synth whistle effect sound . Awesome synth on this . I also like how the vocal is not in front but part of the instruments in parts . Nice mix and cool tune . Nice cover : )

buckhorn said 128 days ago
Great tune
and a fine production. Kind of reminds me of a cross between Cake and Velvet Underground. Great Stuff.

Rebsie said 128 days ago
Lovely stuff
Richard is one of my favourite artists on MJ and a stunning songwriter ... I was tempted to take on one of his myself but didn't think I could do justice to it. You've done a great job here.

Excellent production and groovy guitar work.

This is a great song and an awesome version of it in my opinion.

There's no hope foe me.
I believe in magic and I believe in love.
I believe in you and what you do. I'd write "hopelessly devoted to you" but that would be stealing so consider that as if it were in thought bubble. Terrific! Thanks.

rsorensen said 128 days ago
yep
really cool cover. reminds me of Presidents of the USA and primus a little, but definitely has your own sound all over it. great solo. this to me is what covers are all about. really well done.

bud said 127 days ago
This is so cool
and over the edge. Great collab guys and a fantastic choice of cover, LOve the the little loopy key sound - reminds me a bit of MY Bloody valentine in there. Excellent concept and vocals.

Great idea & the music is just wayout KUDOS!! Like the contrats of the sounds- towards the end theres like 'child'music/sounds coming in alittle which gives an extra spice - this must be heard more than once ! TX

Out here on the M6 Motorway..
You sound more American than me - not fair - spent ages trying to perfect a tom sawyer type accent instead of my Ozzy Osbourne native tongue, lol.

Love it tho! - sounds like Beck w/ Talking Heads. Thanks - great job! And a pleasant surprise!

- Strange Richard.

Honored
Richard,
Thanks for taking a listen. Your original is just an amazing song. One of my earliest-- and still favorite-- MJ downloads. Glad you liked it, and honored to have had your approval to cover it. We're not worthy!

Harmonious
This is fabulous guys - i love the Lou reed style verse vox, which contrast wonderfully with the harmonies when they kick in. Great crunchy guitars and a nice dose of bottom end bass.... great to hear something new from you, Phil.
