Funk it up
Man you are rockin that bass blew me away. I love the way the spoken word adds that touch of difference that puts this in another place. A realy cool song when I get back to my Mac its a definite download!

apb said 130 days ago
Thanks Time
bit of a different approach this for me: I started with the bass and drums .. and then upwards, which I seldom do. Been meaning to try that since I got my bass.

The voice over was a bit of a last minute idea...but the whole song was written with that title and attitude in mind.

Funk!
Hey! I thought funk was my genre, but you do a you do a pretty good job with it too! ;-)

This is very cool! And very different from all of the other submissions of yours that I've heard. Bravo!

apb said 130 days ago
Hahaha
.. how's that for coincidence. I was thinking the same: never done anything funky at all. Just listening now to your Funky Flute groove .. yours is 'true' funk, real 70s cop show "Dirty Harry" ..but some classical sneaking in.. what can I say- I just had a bit of a funk-out with my new bass .. lol :o) I was quite pleased with this .. way simpler than yours .. I spent alot more time on sounds that what was played, trying to capture a blasé mood/attitude.

What are you doing next? lol .. so I don't happen to do that ;o)

Wild track
Nice track here with some wild sounds. I think it really needs to be longer. It deserves to be longer with some really cool guitar solo through the rest of the song. You could return to the vocal at the end.

Nice the way it is however.

apb said 130 days ago
Thanks Bill
2mins is indeed quite a pitiful effort .. but I wanted to capture the idea and vibe .. I can always return to it. I had a notion of it drifting off into a stupor and then returning .. a bit like myself lol .. good grief! It's introspective! lol ;o)

jiguma said 130 days ago
Nice one Alan!
Something different for sure - I like the spoken word, the bass, and most everything else about this - no nits from here.

Good to see you with a new song up.

Cheers from Oz,
Neil

apb said 130 days ago
Thanks Neil- glad to be back
from time to time it's nice to try something just a bit off the beaten track and a different recording approach to. Glad I got the bass up front .. makes a change eh? lol ;o)

davisamerica said 130 days ago
alan ...
funk indeed ... man your cat looks a lot like brocolli .. my best buddy. very cool alan ... as always

apb said 130 days ago
Thanks Jack
Ah .. the cat .. actually I don't own a cat currently. I found that pic in cyberspace... I think it is called "Mr.Pickles" but don't quote me on that. Cats can just do that 'blasé' look better than any people pics I saw- and they say animals can't speak. Glad you enjoyed this, thanks for stopping in.

musichead said 130 days ago
what
So you bought the USA fender...I told you .. I knew you would love it!!
I like the back ground keys on this.. The rolling synths...

apb said 130 days ago
I did Watson ..
I first used it on "Medo" collab, then "Rosie's glow" and for this I tried the split pick-up setting/knob for the first time. Depending which synths you mean, I think it's the one I pitch bend? It's a mix of Absynth and GB mono analog synth with Camelspace/phat FX on them.

Thanks Steve
bit of a departure for me, was fun.

Funky struttin man
Sort of dragged me in and then along some. Liked the introduction of the different textures.

Nice playing.

Cheers

Dick

apb said 130 days ago
Thanks Dick
glad that soup of sound sucked you in at the start as is it's purpose and glad you noted the effect of layering different sound texture on top of one another. The playing is of less importance than the strutting for this one :o)

Roca_Atomica said 130 days ago
Very chalant ...
and it is different. I can't be indifferent to that kind of bass groove. But this isn't traditionally funky ... it's something else, with the Mixolydian mode, the laid back drum track, and the relaxed flow of the synths. It's got a triumphant sound to it, which is certainly at odds with the lyrics. Unique. Fantastic sound.

apb said 129 days ago
Thanks Roca_Atomica
hopefully not traditional, heaven forbid! ;o) That triumphant 'oomph' vibe is my attempt at "indulging in pleasure" .. to excess. :o)

dajama said 130 days ago
Cool
The first thing is 'wow!' - a completely unexpected groove. Love it. The bass sound and playing is superb. The arrangement is also superb, and builds up very well. Lovely keyboard sounds, and the repeated phrase is effective. Nice backwards talking trick, too! Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

apb said 129 days ago
Cheers Dave
Always nice to get a "wow!" .. too kind. Yup, it's the backward talking trick .. the 'chorus' lyrics reversed (if anyone was wondering if there was some hidden message) .. I liked they way they did alomst sound like a foreign language... like Russian ;o)

Karmatoburn said 129 days ago
b3 sounds big
different, edgy. Thats what I dig most. The guitar was phenom, but its the slow driving bass/organ progression that sucks me in.

apb said 129 days ago
Cheers John
Yup that Absynth 4 synth does have a B3 kinda touch to it .. but it's not a B3 plug-in. It's mixed quite heavily with some standardish GB analog mono generator sounds .. and some Camel effects .. the pitch bend and modulation touches I played. I tend to use keys in just a couple of ways: little twiddles for variety or some more prominent pattern playing a riff that has some pull/draws. Hmm .. 8o. :o)

caroline said 129 days ago
is this your voice??
i love the little popping noises - svedish too? oh well - gotta get back to the woods - typical alan production and inventive as always - big loves xoxoxo

apb said 129 days ago
'ello Brunch!
Yes - it's my voice, my theatrical voice over voice :o) Svedish? Nah .. 'tis me backwards... sounds kinda Russian a bit to me .. very odd.

Get those cookies to granny little Pink Driving-Hood! Laters!! :o)

lengold said 129 days ago
Love this
Alan - great feel.

Funk that!
Wow, that's some bass groove. Nice stereo effects too.

A fun track, all in all.

guitapick said 124 days ago
Sounds fantastic...
...I used to play in a funk band...you got it goin' here, Alan...love the bass/guitar and the synth wash creates that BIG space...

Kudos, man...

LunaTrick said 123 days ago
Great groove
some great guitar soloing too! Good job!

blaky smith said 122 days ago
Different
but excellent !
I am late Alan, but it's good to hear you and I think that it's never too late to greet a performance as this one...
Very original and as usual an excellent musical quality. Bravo

Alan
Ha ha ha.

That voiceover had me laughing. I never think of funk as being bored and blas.

I was thoroughly entertained.

Bass and guitar are fantastically played.
