Description I took an overused chord progression and an overused melody and made a baby.

I was watching the Diamondbacks beat up on the Marlins tonight. It's was 80's night and they showed the Buckner play from the 1986 World Series. Those not from the US or those who don't care much for baseball may need an explanation. Bill Buckner was a very, very good baseball player who misplayed a routine play and became famous for screwing up (though the lead was already blown at this point). Buckner's bad knees are probably want kept him from properly making the play. But anyway, the guy that hit the ball to Buckner that night did an interview not long after and that's what was shown tonight on 80's night. That player, Mookie Wilson, was commenting and making it sound like he had done something fantastic. He said something about just trying to make contact and get a good ball in play. Um, no. You hit a text-book rally killing ball that by a thousand to one odds was fielding wrong. You lucked out. Don't confuse the two, Mookie.

Mookie. What a dumb name

I just started singing this after I saw the interview. After the game I went in to the music room and put it down. I sang the wrong words in the first verse, They're written below as they should have been. That's why it's different.

I like this a lot
The singing is excellent, and i would second Feter's comment on the relaxed singing and the great sound of your voice on this. Nice melody, and a fascinating backstory. As an Irishman transplanted to America, baseball is not in my blood, but I do like the history and stories surrounding the sport and I am also learning the game (just so I can play with my son - wait 'til he discovers I don't really know the rules!) More sports songs, I say! Nicely done. Peace.

This was thrown together in like an hour so I hope to go back and make it 2 verses and a chorus longer. But it was a fun little project. Baseball may be more in your blood than you know. There's a game in Ireland called "Rounders" that is essentially baseball. it's been played there since the 1880's. It's not that popular, from what I gather. I know some Dubliners and football is much higher on the list. That and that game that's like field hockey where you just beat the piss out of each other... can't remember the name (not lacrosse, though). I'm sure your son appreciates you playing regardless of the rules. Thanks for listening!

Baseball
I do pride myself on being the only Englishman in Swizerland who knows the rules of Baseball (which may be true, who knows!).

I went to my first - and so far last - baseball game about 6 years ago, when - after failing to get tickets to see the San Francisco Giants my friends persuaded me to go see the Oakland A's instead. They assured me the A's were young local boys, who played for a team with no money and little chance of winning anything ever - which sounded all too much like my hometown football club - so I agreed. I was fortunate enough to see Barry Zito pitch a 9 inning shutout as the A's beat the Cleveland Indians 9 to 0! I figured that was easy and have followed them long distance ever since.

It's a great game, and the mythology of baseball is worth a million tunes. This is just one more....and it's still a good chord progression!

	I so much dig your baseball fanatacism. I am sitting here in Chicago dreaming of an "L" train World Series. I was the biggest Buckner fan when he was a Cub. Mookie has to go down in history with one of the best baseball names of all time. Right up there with Nap, Honus, Cy, Whitey, etc.

	oil can boyd Oil Can actually pitched in the 10th inning, didn't he? I might have to look that one up. I didn't know you used to play ball. That's great. I desperately wish I could play. I've got the bat speed of an infant. Also, did you see the Sox had Buckner throw out the first pitch this year on opening day? He got a 4 minute standing ovation. Thanks for listening!
