Form over function Nice song! The rhythm guitars are catchy and lively and the lead guitar details add lots of character. I think your vocals are delivered really well with fun lyrics. I wouldn't change a thing about the performance or composition. The mix is another story - it sounds really harsh and squeezed. I think the harshness may come from 1) lots of high frequencies (9k ) across all the tracks and 2) very stiff compression. Did you maybe rely on a limiter on the master track? Also, there isn't much use of stereo width (though I caught a few panned guitars). If you are thinking of another pass at this I'd recommend setting EQ and compression for each track individually and mixing with no dynamic adjustment to the master track. Roll-off the tops of the rhythm guitars (-6dB shelving above 2k-5k) to drop them in the background and trim the bottoms off around 500k. I think you'll hear the mix warm up and round out nicely. I didn't vote, but if I did I'd rate: 8-7-7-7 (I thought the performance was 8 but the production was 5 or 6). |

Cool Song I like the song a lot. High energy playing and singing. Not sure if I could have put into words what ChiKoppi is referring to, but I hear it also. Fine touches like that will elevate this to the ready for CD pressing level. Thanks Bill |
