Description Do or Die(by Steve West, John Libby, and Tim DeVine)
This song was totally unplanned. The first tracks come from two other great players, tokai and Karmatoburn. First track “Blackwater” came from tokai,

http://www.macjams.com/song/39012

a great guitar bass and drum track that powerfully drives this version. tokai shows such class and discipline in his form that it was a great groove all alone. Then karmatoburn

http://www.macjams.com/song/44213

added keys and posted his version. That’s where I found the tune and couldn’t resist the opportunity to take out some old lyric and see if it fit. Well some tweaking and here is what we got. THANKS tokai and ktb for your endorsements…peace out…

Lyrics Do or die
See the fire in the sky… its not safe kick it up, look around you!
Look left, run right, I’m astounded.
Got to run for your life, its do or die.

Keep hope in your eyes, to find peace before we die
Keep hope in your eyes, to find peace, its do or die

Take a hit upside down, sky is light up, midnight round.
You’re all inside out, spinning out, going down!

Keep hope in your eyes to find peace before we die
Keep hope in your eyes to find peace before we die

Do or Die, Do or Die, Do or Die

Look around… look left…. look right…
the middle of the road my be just right

See the fire in the sky, its not safe…
Run for your life
Its do or die

You visit means much and your recognizing the great work of the tune, that came from tokia and ktb big time.
They are a great collab combo developed here at Mjs.
That is so cool.

nice one
my friend, you have done a great job on this. The mix is much better, this time around. love all the extras you have put in. Thank you putting down a lyric and guitars, i really like where you have taken it. Cheers.

Steve
your playing on this is great.
You have a great rhythm sense.
A great song always starts with a solid first track.' Blackwater' is real solid.
The tune 'Blackwater' stands alone as a strong tune, then ktb does his magico
and i just added the salt n peppa
I am glad you like this mix. I listened to all your suggestions and agreed with you on all of them.. I re did the opening vocal and sured it up a bit. I could do more, but I need to move on. I appreciate your help very much.
Thank you for your help and for sharing this fun stuff.
peace out
tm

Very cool collab Tim
Love the feel of this one. Kind of a cross between Jazz, Funk, and rock. Excellent play in all the parts, although I think the Strat could have been up a little more in the mix in places.
Very cool indeed my friend,

Ed

timothy devine said 141 days ago
thanks Ed
This one was lots of fun.
The co-collaborators are fine fine musicians. They made it easy to creat my part, with an outrageous energetic track.
thanks for listening up

jammin
Tim, sounds great. Your additions rock. Way cool how you scat sing over that jam part. The leads hum. dig the re-intro, sounds like a whole 'notha jam. Chimes rule

timothy devine said 140 days ago
Hi John,
Thanks for this great inspiring mix u created! Your keys are played so well, and the arrangement is awesome.
Thanks for your vote of confedince with the little scatting, your words are helpful.

Yea, I could see a live version of this song where the band just jams in the re-intro for a good long time. That rhythm is infectious.

You and Steve make a great combo.

Sometimes when i use others tracks to creat something new i feel like i cheated...then i remember that that is why I am a Macjammer so I can collaborate with others. This was fun, my number one priority.
thanks for sharing
peace out

and thinks for your comment.
Its great to have others enjoy a tune i worked on, the other guys really invented this remarkable tune.

wow
This is a good mix. There is a huge contrast with the guitar and the keys together that seem to come together to make a balance of aggression and eloquence. Good job for all of you. I can't wait to read the lyrics along with this.

take a hit
Very cool collab If I may say it seems where ever there is singing it loses its punch Like someone turned the volume down. Enjoyed the bass line on this very extreme The fade out and in was a nice touch!

said 139 days ago
Excellent!
Wow! Music and lyrics are a total fit! Marvellous concept! Totally unplanned, eh? VERY serendipidous!

Awesome jamming. Love the keyboard soloing...Just classic....like the old jam bands of the late 60's and early 70's, but with a more current feel.

Color me BLOWN AWAY gentlemen! BRAVO AND ENCORE!

Be well!

Timmy
Nice job.
I love the way you put together the hard guitar sound with the slick keys. It all works real well.
Your parts are real cool.

see you soon, i hope

is really cool. Great groove- keys vocals and guitar work are excellent!

thoddi said 137 days ago
much truth in these words
Ultra cool groove with loads of energy pouring from it. The guitars are fast and powerful, the keys smooth and sexy.

I fall for the words in your lyrics Tim. Shakespeare said something similar some years ago... To be, or not to be: that is the question...

I dig your singing Tim. You have such a great voice. Although I feel you're holding back at some places here...

I'd like to suggest that you try recording the vocals at a time you're alone in the house with no fear of anyone listening in, or being disturbed... and then you really SING, letting nothing hold you back. It would be cool to hear you set yourself free... Well, I recognize myself doing the same thing... and now you have got me wanting to try this out my self... (Hope my neighbors will be out...)

What you do around 02:30 reminds me of Simply Red - perfectly in balance with ktb's cool keys.

timothy devine said 136 days ago
Thanks thoddi
Your so right about letting go with the vocal.
man i sing great when no one is around and there is no mic in front of me.
sometime i think i can really nail something and then i get in front of the mic and i hear myself, its like aaaaaa who is that singing.
I need to find stuff in the right key and get to know it real well
then find time to be alone(with nothing else pressing/yea right)
and get one good vocal song out of me before i kick the bucket
hehehe
thanks for your visit, your enthusiasm for this song is very nice to hear
i had fun
peace out

how three totally unique pieces came together to create one that is so cohesive. The lyric and melody sits really well with the music. Creative venture done well!

Hey Tim
Just starting to catch up a bit. Looks like I've missed a lot!

Your vocal is GREAT; I had no idea you could sing. I really dig the way you mix it up on that first line (" it's not safe, kick it up..."). Really top flight stuff!

I will be back to catch up on the rest.

Best,

Wow
This is a great collaboration. The rhythm is fantastic - a great piece if rockin' fun, and then your vocals on top are excellent. The beauty of it, of course, is that everything seems to be where it should. Nothing seems shoehorned in, and that's the secret of a really good meeting of musical minds. Very, very cool. Sorry it's taken me so long to get here! Nicely done. Peace.

Driving..forward..forward all the way through!

Vocals reminded me a bit of Joe Jackson.

This is a great collab of talents with great results. Nice shredding and energy levels.
