Keywords desert (28)ghosts (18)lemon sky (1)
Description A couple months ago Bob Rodgers posted a cool instrumental rock tune with a blistering wah guitar solo.

I contacted Bob to see if I could play around with it. I didn't want to redo or change anything he had already laid down.

I did add a few synth tracks to the beginning and closing parts, with a effect bass drum. I also added several harmonized slide guitar tracks as well. And vocal tracks.

Well, this has sat around for a while, waiting for Bob to return from his honeymoon, so he could hear it first.
Lyrics Desert Ghost

lemon sky day
sour to the taste
bleached white bone
in the desert waste
on dusty trails
make my escape
outlaw cowboy
from a jail break

ride by night
hide by day

desert of sage
day after day
my horse is dry
and so am I

there's a bounty on my head
ride by night
hide by day
ride by night
make my escape

darkness of night
I take flight
can't remember
the clear blue skies
smell of leather
I 'll remember
it will last forever
how many years
I have lost count

ride by night
hide by day

they call me
the ghost cowboy
riding the range
and over the hill

ride by night
hide by day

so the story goes
they found my bones
lodged between stones
I'm the last to know

ride by night
hide by day
ride by night
hide by day

Frankly amazing!
Vic you are a magician!

Vic Holman said 148 days ago
Thanks Mark
the big credit goes to Bob. Years ago I would jam around on something close to this but never got around to recording. Since Bob pulled this one out I couldn't resist.

Desert Ghost
oh WOW - what fabulous additions to an already great tune. Mark is right - you're a magician - congrats on this, it is terrific!

Vic Holman said 148 days ago
Thanks Karen
when I first heard Bob's original track, half way through I was already thinking that I would like to work on it. Bob's an excellent guitar player on this.

Moviz said 148 days ago
Fantastic
sounds you got going here, really powerful sounding and a brilliant addition to the original.... the boy done good, Love it, Cheers m

Vic Holman said 148 days ago
Thanks Maurice
I'm glad that Bob let me have a go at this. His guitar solo is classic rock!

Peter Bauckham said 148 days ago
Bob's
tune was excellent - very Zeppelin - but now I couldn't imagine anyone singing on it! Great collaboration.

Peter

Vic Holman said 148 days ago
Thanks Peter
Zep in a lot of ways. Now if I could only sound like Plant. I think his job is secure.:)

Skean said 148 days ago
You're the man (on the pic;) you ROLL
The only thing I can say is that I love this, very cool collab.. Cheers buddy... Downloaded

Vic Holman said 148 days ago
Thanks Kenta
the picture is a drawing I did years ago and was actually the inspiration for the lyrics.

Thanks again bro

Groovy suff boys
Vic and Bob eh?

Really well put together and a great set of lyrics.

Nice one.

Cheers

Dick

Vic Holman said 148 days ago
Thanks Dick
I really liked what Bob had created originally and was hard not to jump on it. the art is a drawing I did some time back that inspired the lyrics. Although the picture is cropped so you don't see all the mortally wounded cactuses.

Ride Vicar ride!
...into the blazing sunset on your faithful horse "Bob"!

Nicely done. Very nicely done. Bob's original track was really good. Now it's classic.

Vic Holman: MJ's own "Pale Rider"!

Be well gents!

Vic Holman said 147 days ago
Hey Mike
the space cowboy has gone Clint Eastwood. Bob produced a noble steed of a song and just added some spurs and chaps.

said 144 days ago
Hmmmnnn....
Dunno about Clint Eastwood.

Sounds more like Brisco County Jr. to me! Ha ha...

Vic Holman said 143 days ago
okay
.................. Gabby Hayes or Walter Brennan or both :)

SmokeyVW said 148 days ago
vocals
you added the vocals afterwards? i couldn't imagine this song without them.

that harmonica synth is eerie - how did you do it?

thanks

Vic Holman said 147 days ago
Thanks Bill
yeah, I added the vocals after. Then again that's how I do all my songs.

The harmonica, Bob did that, as far as I know it's real, I think. I copyed it over into another track and put it through Space Designer, a echo plug-in that gives you a wide range of of parameters to play around with. then added a few other synths in the background as well.

cool
this is super cool Vic, very Zep or Masters of Reality. What a great collab. That slide is killing me, perfect.

Vic Holman said 147 days ago
Thanks Michael
maybe more Masters of Realtiy. Especially since I can't sing like Plant. The 2 slide tracks are harmonized and done on the first pass. so they are a bit loose, that was what I was aiming for.

Lennon714 said 148 days ago
cool
Peter beat me to the Zep reference. The verse drums are bleeding Bonham all over the place. Very cool track. I'd like to hear the vocals a bit more, but it seems like maybe you were trying to highlight the slide. Plus, what the hell do i know :). Great track, guys!

Vic Holman said 147 days ago
Thanks Eric
I think the drums are the big force here. Bob produced a classic rock song and I was happy that he allowed me to jump in.

Deepest Bow !!!!!!!

Vic Holman said 146 days ago
Thanks Feter
What was cool in working with another guitarist is I didn't have to do any solos.

lavalamp said 147 days ago
Classic
Raunchy good fun. I thought of Zep before seeing Peter's comment. Must mean it sounds like Zed.

Great guitar work and very awesome song.

LL

Vic Holman said 146 days ago
Thanks Dave
Bob's original had a great energy that had me on the up when I heard it and it was hard to resist not wanting to contribute to it.

thoddi said 147 days ago
cooooool
Wicked and cool!

The groove is enchanting, and the steel work on top rocks! Your singing works as a counterpart to the steady rhythm, and makes the song swing.

Ultracool work from you two!

Vic Holman said 146 days ago
Thanks Thor
It was cool to work with Bob. I probably had him on nerves when I first asked if I could pitch in. I think it turned out pretty good.

Zeppelin & Hendrix
meet the Wild West! Got a bit of a bump and grind feel to it (and that's as racy as I'll get) : ) "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?" : ) [song title] - and "Ghost Riders In The Sky" : ) Very cool tune and great vocals Vic.

Vic Holman said 146 days ago
Thanks CJ
Bump & grind is right. after all it's rock n roll. But I stayed away from any Zepplin suggestive lyrics. I think it was the harmonica intro that got me in the cowboy mood.

egobandit said 147 days ago
Dude
Allright I know I have said best vocal Before but this shines and is placed just right. Your too much Vic Im not worthy. Dig the over all cowboy feel or maybe Johnny Cash gone 70's rock god. Cool that this is a collab. Excellent!

Vic Holman said 146 days ago
the man in black
Thanks Tim. I kew I really had to measure up the lyrics just right since the groove laid out is so definately stated. Doing the vocal itself came pretty easy.

jiguma said 147 days ago
Vic
I really like the overall feel on this one - great to hear what comes up from this sort of collab.

Congrats to you both.

Cheers,
Neil

Vic Holman said 146 days ago
Thanks Neil
I loved how Bob laid out a great classic rock tune. I had something along this line that I would jam about on a few years ago but never got around to recording it. So when Bob had his original up. I knew it would be a great way to wrap something up.

Bob Rodgers said 145 days ago
I
really love your additions to this song Vic!

The guitar slides and the vocals are just superb and this song sounds fantastic now!!

Great lyrics too and I love everything you have done here, thanks once again!

Bob

Vic Holman said 143 days ago
thanks to you
Bob, you did all the hard work. When I heard the original, I was wanting to jump in before it was over. So thanks for letting me add something. And your guitar solo really rips!

said 144 days ago
Really good
Enjoyed it very much. Thank you.

Dee 1962z.

Vic Holman said 143 days ago

It was a pleasure to rock out on Bob's song.

I also recognised
that Bob's original upload of this was special.
You have made it even more special - what a wonderful combination.
I am so glad that I am trawling through all the songs I missed. This is truly great.
Cheers
Len

Vic Holman said 117 days ago
thanks Len
I dug Bob's original right off the bat, even before it was done playing I wanted to be in on it. Bob was gracious to let me work with it.
