Description not sure what to say about this one as I sit here and type.... so what do you get out of it??

All sounds performed by yours truly...
live drums and all....
I stress live drums due to the fact that I keep getting asked if my drums are live or something like Drums On Demand....sorry....no DOD for this kid....

p.s. tis is from the album "Fantastic" which you can find on iTunes, Cdbaby.com, Amazon.com, Rhapsody.com and YahooMusic.com nice
Lyrics No words to say, no thoughts to speak
The dark light fades like hide and seek
A sacrifice made complete
The warmest ice, God's candy treat

Let the lie lay down stone dead
Let the nations all break bread
Wake the watchers, shake their heads
Wake the kids to faith unsaid

Slay good war
Cannibal
Majick's gone
Rocket dawn

With love indeed
Signals deployed
Spirit the seed
Overthruster

Slay good war
Cannibal
Majick's gone
Rocket dawn

Hardware slingerland drums, ludwig snare, zildjian and ufip cymbals, fender strat, fender bass, voice, gigi 001, m-audio buddy

Cool!
I like it. Great production, mixing. I am partial to the live drum thing too. Strong performances all around. Interesting mix of band elements and electronic sounds. Guitar solo reminds me of Smashing Pumpkins (a good thing). i also hear elements of Seimisonic in the overall bounce of the song.

I won't lie
I listened to a ton o' pumpkins from 1992 to around 1996....and saw them 4 times.... though after Mellon Collie (which really should have been trimmed down to one disc) my interest started to drift.... with that said I did think Mchina 1 was brilliant.... and they have a track here and there.... but I had been getting into more brit shoegaze stuff, which struck an even stronger chord with me.... many of those bands were a big influence on Billy as well.... but still those years ingrained in pumpkins records is still wired into the ole psyche somewhere... and I never deny Corgan's influence on my guitar playing.... even if you are not a fan of them you have to admit he is a monster of a player.... so was Iha for that matter.... damn this comment is long.... peace and future

Live Drums?
That's really hard to do. Respect.

Now, the song. I tip my hat.

Great stuff.

Woooww :)
I really like the heavy rock sound in combination with the awesome lyrics!

MarkHolbrook said 149 days ago
When you say live drums...
do you mean you have a set and you mic and record them or you "play" them on a midi keyboard?

Either way they are nicely done!

springclock said 148 days ago
um...yeah
I meant I set-up, tune up, mic-up and physically play my slingerland drum kit (see hardware used)(also you can see my setup at http://www.ianbaird.net .... If anyone is "playing" drums using a midi controller and calling it live drums I am sorry but it IS NOT live drums....just for the record.... and I don't mean to sound crass....thanks for listening and taking the time....peace....Ian

Ian
Sorry, no offense intended. I've just heard the term "live" used several different ways:

"I played the drums live... (on the midi keyboard)"

and yours... the real thing...

Like I said, they sound great. I'm kinda slow sometimes with the terms... I'm no pro, not even near so I'm trying to learn what people mean.

The drum work is amazing!

Drums for hire
Great song. Only thing: last second gets clipped off, no reverb tail, added click. Maybe due to bouncing. Do you hire out for your drumming? If so, please email me.

springclock said 148 days ago
the end
is meant to be that way...right down to the pop.... it duplicates the sound of the stop button being pushed on the very first boom box I ever owned way back in 1985.... seems silly I know but the sound was so spot on I just had to use it.... sort of a personal childhood memory thing.... and yes I am for hire....I'll shoot ya a note....peace

TobinMueller said 146 days ago
silly
Yes, seems silly...

springclock said 146 days ago
um
ok.... surely you know by now that I am not interested in making conventional sounding records.... and who is to judge what is right and wrong or silly for that matter.... esp. if it's something that resonates in a personal way for someone

besides it's already out on iTunes and everywhere else so should I pull it down and fix it?? once again I don't mean to seem crass but I haven't a clue/ nor an interest in making anyone happy with what I create except for me.... peace and future Tobin

Love the playing
Call me old fashioned, but jeeze this is LOUD! The "light" sections were something of a relief. Great drums and everything sounds to me like it might sound in a live concert situation. The crash cymbal seems a little undefined to these ears (each crash blending into and interfering with the impact of the next), but maybe that's what you were after.

I'm so envious that you can play the drums live - maybe I should seek spouse permission for a drum kit ;)

Good song, maybe my ears are the problem.

Cheers,
Neil

Drum sounds
How are you miking the drums?

Also from a process standpoint - how do you work through all of this? I've been starting with a loop and then typically doing a one mic acoustic guitar/vox take and recording everything else over that and then dropping the loop.

Overall - the whole song is so 3D. I'm really digging it.

springclock said 145 days ago
ok
so I have been getting that question a bit more often as of late and I will answer it shortly....

please stand by

Very VERY
HOT!!! This is a great song from all perspectives. I was becoming somewhat disenchanted with the whole "music scene" per say, until I discovered your music Ian. Artists like yourself inspire me to look at how I write, in a different way. I have spent most of my musical life writing to please others, and it shows in the songs I have currently posted. I listen to something like this and I immediately start hearing what my new catalogue might sound like once I am comfortable with how to record it. Artists like you are keeping music alive and evolving.
This is such a Springclock tune, uniquely yours, and very well written, performed and produced.

springclock said 145 days ago
wow
thanks once again bro.... it's folks like you who inspire me to keep going, so the inspiration runs full circle my friend....the way it should.....

thanks and glad I could help....
can't wait to hear your next phase

peace and future

your usual greatness, ian. the clincher in this one is the bass line... 'specially during the verses. great playing all around. i WISH i had real drums... but in an apartment building, not gonna happen. it would force me to practise and get better, though. anyway, well done.

actually, checked out the pic of the kit on your site. nice! surprised you're not getting more phasing with all those windows and the closeness of the overheads to each other. but, hey, whatever you are doing... it's working! is that in your home?
