Description Just thinking about a friend who is having problems, and I believe his only way out is to go "in."
Lyrics APRIL
Stacey K. Black
copyright, 2008

it was long and winding like the words to a beatles song
it kept him from finding a place he might like to call home
he couldn't see past his own nose
and how with each lie it grows
with each lie it grows

he wasn't interested in ordinary things
he should've been invested in what his bleak future might bring
there wasn't enough love to go around
so he stood his ground
he stood his ground

it's the same old story
(trading guts for glory)
i know it shouldn't bore me but it does anyway
looking for the answer
(like a drunken dancer)
if only he could dance his pain away

it was only april but it felt like it would snow
shrouding his intentions to fight and claw his way below
another day to pass the time
another puzzle in his mind
another puzzle in his mind
just another boy too lost to find

and a bottle of pills
You know, I dig this track.. made some crazy connection to it.. the only thing is... it deserves a better drum track... or maybe "sans" drum track?? Great voice and guitar... lyrics are cool too... I'd like to hear the acoustic only version :)

Good on ya.

As always...
You sing very beautifully! amazing vocals!

Your music rocks! i gotta say i like the drum beat in the background, suits the song very well, it has no flaws at all for me!

Great song!

yup!
Really nice, but I gotta go along with ronnie on the drum track. You've got such a nice way of writing and singing, it just totally works. Have you ever heard of Connie Champagne? She's sort of obscure, but you really remind me of her!

Good track Stacey
Lovely vocals and the acoustic sounds pretty well recorded - very nice writing.

A couple of suggestions: like Ronnie, Kenta and Jim, that drum track is a real weakness in your production. It doesn't do anything for the song, and would be much better left out than included as it is. I also find it hard to cope with drums without an accompanying bass line - maybe that's just a personal thing?

Secondly, there's not much of a spread in the mix. Most things seem to come from within 5 of centre, so the sound is almost mono-sounding, even on phones. This is especially noticeable in the harmony section, where both the lead and harmony are coming from the same spot on the sound stage.

The good news is that these weaknesses are fairly easily corrected through a bit more attention to detail in production (and a better drum track with bass - or leave both out altogether).

Great lyrics, melody and performance.

Stacey!
Deep meaningful lyrics, a good tune and a beautiful voice will always make for a wonderful tune!

Nice harmonies too!

too lost to find
nice last line. great vocal performance. just the right high-end eq'd. nicely done. i agree with the drum comments. maybe leave them out until the bridge, and then have a big full kit come in. just an idea. is this track done to a click?

What a voice!
Very nice! First time I have heard you. I really like your style. You have a great voice and can do a lot with it. I'll have to look inti more of your stuff.

If I had to give you constructive feedback, I'd say simplify the kick drum and either mix up the snare or pull it out.

Great song!

only way out is in
Nice internal rhymes. But the focus of the lyrics seemed to be lacking, rambling around the edges of this guy whose relationship to you is too undefined to be as powerful as other songs you've written. I like the "only way out is in" line - maybe you should us it?

I listened in headphones and found the bass drum particularly annoying. Not just the volume, but the forward setting and how much louder it was than the nearly imperceptible snare and trap, etc. Also, simply too much drumming going on for a bare bones demo feel track, in my opinion. I'd prefer no drums to this.

Thanks so much!
Hey thanks you guys! I really appreciate all your comments. Drums are my weakness because I either have to make my own tracks via midi (on keyboard), or relay on loops. I would almost always rather make my own, but maybe I need to get a little drum kit and learn 'em? Yeah, in all my spare time.

Thanks again, and I will work on that eq business. I just love MacJams. You guys always know exactly what to do!

terrific
Terrific piece of songwriting. Your voice is great on this. Drums could be better, if I have any critique.

LOVED "I wanna' hurt you"

Excellent singing
As I've said before, one of the best voices on Macjams! Have to agree with others on the drum however. Same mistake I make all the time thinking I just have to have percussion when I am terrible at doing it. I think the song is very good also. Only minor critique I might have is t6hat sometimes the second line of the verse seems rushed. Maybe rewrite with fewer words so that your oh so lovely voice would be heard at it's best. Overall excellent!

both your voice and guitar playing are great... beautiful... drop that drums... some violins could replace drums... think about it..
