Description No one wants to see your face and no one wants to take your place..........written in 2004 the song is inspired by a fairground attraction I saw [see photo] I just thought what a good title for a song. Bit macabre maybe.
Lyrics The electric chair
written by J J in 2004
8 bar intro.

verse 1 Dim the lights and keep your voice down low,
Everyone has come to see the show.
Close the door the time has come,
The press are here , you'll soon be numb,
They all agree it's the best way you can go .

verse 2 Listen to the static everywhere,
Listen to the hum that fills the air,
No one wants to see your face,
And no one wants to take your place,
They tell me it's the only way to go.

chorus Hold on tight we're gonna take you for a ride in the
Electric chair.
Close your eyes as the voltage reaches higher.
Fasten your belt we're gonna take you for a ride in the
Electric chair
Try to relax as it sets your blood on fire.

verse 3 A sense of tension creeping down your spine,
The feelings that you got 'aint worth a dime,
There's no one there to hold your hand,
There's no one there that understands .
It wont be long you'll soon be on your way.

The chair is called Shocker - classic
Great to have you back John.
Wonderfully macabre song as only you can do. Absolutely love it when that chorus kicks in. True pop music. I love it.
Cheers
Len

nice to be back Len
Shocker by name- shocker by nature -makes a change from Sparky I suppose. This is the second version of this which exists - the other one starts off with an evil laugh and is more of a rocker. Listening to it now there are some parts of it I prefer to this but overall though I don't think it's as good. This is another one I intend to re record if I ever get 'round to it.

I'm glad you liked it Len and as usual thanks for listening.

The Electric Chair
Super tune. Has your name all over it. I dont know how you can take something like a electric chair write such full lyrics, then put some cool tuneage around them and come up with a hit (in my book ) To cool.
Be well, Russ

I have always liked the idea-
of having a macabre subject with a melody line and rhythm that's at odds to it. Not everybody's cup of tea I don't suppose but then it wouldn't do for us all to be the same.

Thank you Russ for taking time to comment, 'tis much appreciated.

Great to
have you back. This is a really neat song. I enjoyed it very much. I have to ask; is there really such a thing as that chair cause it looks dangerous haha. I imagine it's entertaining to watch. I always enjoy your songs, especially the clever tongue in cheek ones. Glad your back.

The chair in the picture
is at a place called Folly Farm which is in West Wales about 100 miles from where I live. To be honest I can't really remember what it does ! It seems they've stopped using the electric chair in Wales now because it's no longer financed by the National Health so you now have to pay privately. Seriously though there is a story from down that way about a hangman from Camarthen many years ago called Evans the drop. Now whether it's true or not I don't know but they tell me that Evans' other occupation was a doctor. I did google him but came up with nothing so I don't know.

I know, - I talk too much - thank you Guy,

John.

Feter-thanks for litening
and for your warm welcome back.- I'm glad you like this cheerful little song- like many of my pieces it wouldn't sound out of place in the Sound of Music, just imagine Julie singing this ! I suppose you could call it my current song !!!!!

Good to hear from you my friend,

John

Thank you Wendy-
as you know I'm just no good at writing love songs so this is one of the few avenues left for me to explore. I have another song coming up shortly about Dr.Cream the Victorian killer, - same sort of thing.

Thanks again for commenting,

John.

Another Good One
Being in a country where we still kill people to teach them that killing is bad, I like that you kept a carnival atmosphere in the lyric.

I did a capital punishment song that I used to have on MJ but took it off a long time ago. It was written from the condemned's point of view and had one joke in it, but was a fairly serious piece.

Thanks for writing this one.
