Thanks for listening Jack I've been working on this for about a week to get it where it is now. I even posted a version a few days ago, but took it down today because I forgot to do all the drums in the mix. (Senior Moment don't ya know) ;-) So now we have here mix number 2567 of "A Simple Life". I'm a slo learner sometime, but even a monkey will type a real word if you leave him in front of a type writer long enough. Thanks Feter, I guess what you'd have to say about the guy in the song is that he doesn't have a clue about what's going on around him. But that's okay, he's happy just living the simple life. Well thank you Mark I knew I could make it better when I realized I'd left the drums I'd set up for it out of the last mix. Talk about your senior moments. (hehehe) Oh well, I guess it's a good thing I don't do mixing for a living, I'd go broke having to redo everything a couple dozen time. Since you asked, the fiddle sounds are GB and Logic loops sliced and diced until I had what I wanted. Then I layered them in some places to get a slightly different sound. A little note on how I did the drums. After I laid out all of the drum tracks, (there were 2 separate tracks with many different individual parts in each), I used a little compression on them and added a flanger with a very light touch to it just to give the drums a little movement to them and a fuller sound. Anyway, thanks for all the kind words and observations Mark, they have a way of making all the screw ups worth the effort once I finally got it all together. Yeah Chris, it's another one of those Senior Moments Yep, kinda left them suckers completely out of the mix. I guess that makes me a Pro, being as how I do this stuff so well. ( ;-p Well the error is fixed now. (was that a 404 Drums not found error) and I'm glad I pulled the other version and put this one up. It's sounds much better to my old ears. I just left a second review on Crazy World Ah don't ya just love those Senior moments. Wake up in a new world, with new freinds, new home, and all this brand new music to listen to. Life doesn't get any better than this. And of course I had to close out my second review with a wise crack about you taking care "Old timer". Serves me right for being such a smart ass. Anyway, back to this one. you might be, make that are, right about things being a little wacky. But when we were coming up in this world it was a whole different existence. A lot has changed in the last 50 odd years, and not all of it for the good. But the world is what it is, and I'm not totally unhappy about it. For one thing, places like this are a God send to people like you and I. It gives us a place to put our creative juices to work, meet some really nice folks, and have some fun. I'm glad you like this song and I thank you again for the very kind words about it. Makes it all worthwhile, and even the Senior moments don't seem to matter after a while. Thanks Guy The only thing about my subconscious you can say for sure is that it's unconscious, This is called a senior moment my friend. Yeah, I guess this is that kind of a in your face have some fun down home Country song with a little Bluegrass thrown in for good measure. I posted it lasy year in August and then again as a remake on the 17th of this month. Took it down the 19th because I'd forgotten to bring the new drum part online on that mix. Then I posted a corrected version with the drums and a few other changes and this is it. Long story for a 3 minute song, huh? well anyway, thanks again for listening and the nice comment Maurice. Thanks John It pleases me that you enjoyed this song, and sent along some kind words about it. I also appreciate you taking time to add the comments and suggestions about some things I might want to consider about the lyrics. You have some very good insights into how I might change the lyrics to make them even better, and I will consider them thoughtfully. On your first point about the placement of the hook, one way to solve that would be to rename the something like "Life's Little Disappointments", but I'm not sure that would work out. With "A Simple Life" mentioned 5 time, once in each of the 4 choruses, and once in verse 2, that seemed a more natural Title for the song. Not sure what, if anything to do about that. You're right of course about the hook being placed oddly compared to most songs but I'm not sure, without a complete re-write how to fix it. In verse 3, the singer mention he needs ammunition, then states it's hard to kill a Buffalo without it, after which the guy at the dry goods store informs him that he can't kill buffalo anymore. That's the only way it makes sense. I could re-write the last line to say something like " The guy said I can't do that anymore" or maybe "The guy told me I can't do that no more" either one would work and would fit the timing of the line and also eliminate the double reference. On the Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus thing, I have always wished I'd done 2 verses and then the first chorus, and then a chorus after 3 and 4 to finish out the song. I never changed it because the song would be really short that way. Slowing it down wouldn't work either, because the song would feel like it was dragging at a slower tempo. As it is now, it really cooks along great. That's one I have no answers for right now. Although I suppose I could extend the instrument break by 8 or 16 bars, or maybe use 2 breaks to give the musicians some time in the spotlight. If I ever go back into this song and make a completely new version John, I'll keep all of this in mind. I've written down your comments and tucked them away in the fold for this song so I'll have them for reference. Your thoughts and suggestions have me thinking about this song again and I really appreciate that. Thanks Bill This was a really fun song to do Bill. I did it because I was getting a little tired of the tear jerker songs I'd been writing before this one and wanted something that was fun and funny. I haven't a clue where the story line came from, somewhere out in left field I think. I was hanging out with a freind of mine, "Charlie Red", at the time and we had spent a lot of time swapping songs and lyrics during that time period. I have a feeling I wrote this one just to show Charlie I could do it, and the rest is history. Of course being and old timer now, I can't remember back that far, so who knows. Thanks Kevin I wrote this on a lark to show a friend of mine I could write a funny Country song back in 1991. It was fun to record it back then, but it lacked the energy and drive it really needed. Sh_T Kickin' Music for sure This was a really fun song to do, and this version of it in particular was great fun. I always wanted this one to kick _ss, but up until now it was kinda lame. I think this time I've got it about as good as I can get it, without hiring some studio pro's out of Nashville to whip it into shape. So I'll leave it alone and let it ride.
