Description It's my wife's birthday today and this song is one of her presents. The original version is here http://www.macjams.com/song/44589 and I thought I'd try a more intimate and slightly slowed down acoustic version for her as well. I can't decide which one I like better. Maybe I'll try a psychedelic version next ;)
Lyrics I am waiting on a friend
Who said she'd meet me after school
Forgot my backpack in the gym
So I turn around my bicycle
I pedal fast so I'm not late
Don't wanna miss my special date
Pick up my bag and speed away
I'm seeing my girlfriend today

I know that she's the one
And I know I love her
I know that she's the one
That'll be forever

I pull my bike up to the curb
And I can barely look at her
Reach in my bag and grab the letter
That says just how I feel about her
She takes it from my hand and reads
And then she looks at me and grins
She tells me that she loves me too
And that I'm a super friend

But I know that she's the one
And I know I love her
Yes I know that she's the one
I can't breathe without her

I know that she's the one
And she knows I love her
Yes I know that she's the one
And I'll wait forever

I listened to
the other version of this earlier tonight. I am torn between the two. I think this one has a feel the other hasn't though, like your actually singing it to her, and not us this time. I am downloading this one too.

rsorensen said 41 days ago
guy
yeah i agree this one is definitely a little more personal. cant decide myself. thanks for downloading!

Nick_Flash said 42 days ago
this
is a great version too. I like the muted guitar sound throughout, it gives the your voice room to project and stand out.
Happy Birthday to your wife - my daughters B-day is on Sunday.

rsorensen said 41 days ago
acoustics
thanks again, nick. acoustics are always difficult to record - especially palm muted. glad you think it sounds alright. hope you have a great time Sunday!

Feter said 42 days ago

rsorensen said 41 days ago
hmm
thanks feter. yeah i keep going back and forth between the two, but this one's definitely more heartfelt, if that counts for anything. thanks for checking em out

tokai said 42 days ago
what a
beautiful present to give, and wonderful song. I will have to do something similar for mine.

rsorensen said 41 days ago
yep
it's a gift that keeps on giving! thanks man.

i like em both the same. great great job. i love the triangle it sounds like a bike bell!

rsorensen said 41 days ago
bell
thanks again for checking this one out too. bike bell is what I was going for :)

Mokus said 41 days ago

Great song! I like this a lot...great production, great dynamics, and slick lyrics. Really well done.

Hey, we're in Southern Ontario--if you're down this way, we're always up for a jam ;)

rsorensen said 41 days ago
jam
hey thanks a lot Mokus. I'm a big fan of yours. Southern Ont is a lot better than Northern, so if I'm ever planning a trip out east I'll let you know!

Remark80 said 41 days ago
Nice tune
Very airy vox that fit in the verses really well. I think this song is very catchy and melodic. Kind of has a Weezer feel. I could hear a crunchy guitar part coming in when you get to the "...she's the one" chorus and then going right back into the acoustic for the verses. Liked this one a lot. Thanks

rsorensen said 41 days ago
remark
hey thanks. this is actually an acoustic version of the original which did have crunchiness all over it. Check it out http://macjams.com/song/44589

egobandit1 said 41 days ago

LOve the acoustic sounding chunka chunka on the guitar and the way you sing this it flows around the rhythm. Excellent now to listen to the other version

rsorensen said 41 days ago
:)
thanks ego! let me know which one you like better. appreciate the listens.

Lightman- said 41 days ago
Great
This is a good version.... I really like your voice... It's strong.... This version shows that it's a great song, and has what it takes.... I'll say the word again....: It's strong.... Congratulations on making this song.....

rsorensen said 41 days ago
:)
thanks lightman. good to have you back. i can't keep up with all your new songs! you've been busy

12parsecs said 41 days ago
just as cool
if not cooler than the other version. i dig it dood! the octave guitars (acoustic this time) are a little out of tune - most likely due to the intonation of your acoustic guitar. but DON'T change it... it's perfect! it's real and it adds a bit of depth (the way a chorus pedal would). very cool. another mj hit!

12parsecs said 41 days ago
ps.
ps. great pic. people don't know this, but your wife looks just like wonder woman, and you robin, so it's remarkably fitting. =P

rsorensen said 41 days ago
outta tune
thanks scott. yeah I was gonna redo the octave guitars, but left them for that exact reason. Actually, I played it on my 'work' guitar that you always used to stop my office and tune for me ;) My voice is pretty shaky as well in some parts as it's the first take, but i think it works well that way because of the whole theme of the song. And yeah - we get the Superman/Wonder Woman thing a lot. Thanks for stopping by, pal.

12parsecs said 40 days ago
little guitars.
ah yes! your little office acoustic. thank god for that thing! it kept me sane when pm forces were trying to drive me krazy! lol. you made it sound really good, btw.

12parsecs said 39 days ago
pm
i just realized that pm could be read as something other than what i intended them to stand for, which is 'production manager'. :)

rsorensen said 34 days ago

hahah. well i understood exactly what you meant, and the pm is gonzo :)

superfriend
I love the original. As soon as I got to work yesterday I emailed my buddy Russ (Somebuddy) and said he had to check it out. But this one even better than that one. I'm not torn between them at all. Great original, even greater this time around. Blew my mind. My wife would love to have a song like this.

rsorensen said 41 days ago
cool
thanks eric, and thanks for sharing it with Russ, too - I appreciate that. Glad you enjoyed this.

Alannah said 41 days ago
I'm a sucker ....
... for all things "acoustic" ... all things "love and dedication related" .... and of course "birthdays" ... so this one was already a winner in my mind before I even listened .... you have an amazing talent to genre hop the way you do ... (and very successfully too) a nicely rounded place to be !

rsorensen said 41 days ago
aw
thanks alannah. very kind words. i've been meaning to check out your collab with Dee... Will do now :)

ageofthedeathtree said 41 days ago
wow...
great alt take on this masterpiece! you did it for the right reason too...i hope you guys had a great time on her b-day. great tune ridd, amazing....both versions!

age

rsorensen said 41 days ago
bday
thanks, age. yeah it was a good one this year. i think i hit a home run this time, as I had to make up for last year's ignorance on my part. long story ;)

I feel very much like GuyGrooves
I can't decide which I like better but the acoustic version here is unique in its own way.

Hope your wife likes the present!!! Happy birthday to her!

SatelliteTragedy said 39 days ago
yeah
I find myself listening to the acoustic one more myself (yes I'm one of those musicians that listens to his own stuff A LOT). Thanks for checking it out.

asconejar said 40 days ago

I love this acoustic version. And voicing is great, specially your control on the ending part. You can take this song anywhere with just a guitar. And lyrics are nice and personal, no fancy wordings, just honest expression of love and emotion that can easily relate in every day life.

SatelliteTragedy said 39 days ago
lyrics
thanks :) yeah I tried not to think too much about the lyrics when I wrote them. I just wanted them to come from what I felt back then. glad you think it works. thanks for the listen

Pete_NB said 40 days ago
Verdict is in
This takes it top the next level. The earlier version is polished and all but this one has why we write songs in the first place. It's intimate and personable. It would be a cold-hearted listener that wouldn't go along for this ride.

The harmonies are cool. So subtle and stratospheric. Also like the way you build it up in each verse, and that you kept the keyboard note bend thing behind the "pick up my bag..." line. Thought that might be missing as this was to be an acoustic version. Smart move keeping it around as it takes things to the next level.

Sorry if I can't find anything to point out for improvement. This is damn good.

rsorensen said 38 days ago
thanks pete!
yeah originally the synth part wasn't in there but it didnt sound complete without it. thanks a lot for the feedback.

TEXASFEEL said 39 days ago
Great song
Very current, I really like the acoustic version... I better go check the other version now. Thanks for sharing.

rsorensen said 38 days ago

thanks! hope you like the other one too :)

psexnyc said 37 days ago
Whoa!!!
Awesome!!

Going to listen to the other one now. But I personally prefer acoustic versions of songs when they have an electric twin. That's why I listened to this one first. And it is Awesome!!

rsorensen said 36 days ago
ok
thanks! hope you like the other one too :)

michael2 said 36 days ago
just found this
i get so behind. i really like the changes you made to this. i think i may like this version better than the other (not to take away from that one). this is just a little more unusual. awesome song either way.

rsorensen said 36 days ago
acoustic
thanks man. yeah i think i like this too. i really like the other one for what it is, but there's definitely more conviction in this. can't wait to post our collab ;)

I'm a Superfriend
Fantastic songwriting, a very creative performance, terrific vocals, love the expressive way of singing and the crisp and highly professional production. An instant favotite - I'm a fan :-)

rsorensen said 36 days ago
thanks dirigent
big fan of your stuff too :)

jiguma said 36 days ago
Of the two
I prefer this version - it still has the cool rhythmic feel, but is just more accessible. This is a really classy song Ridd - great singing, playing and production.
Neil

rsorensen said 34 days ago

thanks neil. yeah I added congas to this version to play up that rythmic feel a little more. Glad you like.

SweetBacteria said 35 days ago
nice
Very sweet tune. Hey, I hear a lot of weezer on this one (pinkerton era stuff)
Again, the acoustic sounds amazing and the percussion fits like a glove.
Have you listened to "superfriend" by rivers cuomo? He released it in a home recordings album. Just wondering if the title had anything to do with that song.

rsorensen said 34 days ago

weezer's probably the biggest influence on the stuff like this I do. Especially Pinkerton era songs. Superfriend's one of my favorite demos Rivers has ever recorded. The melodies in that song blow me away. The title's definitely a nod to that song, but I was a huge fan of the Superfriends cartoon when I was a youngin' as well. Good catch! You should have a listen to my other song 'So Stupid'.

magnatone said 33 days ago
Acoustic Version
I JUST listened to the first version, now this - I can't decide either. Ridd, this is a very good problem to have - which of these two great versions of the same great song, do I love the most?? On my second listen, I think I have a slight preference for this one - but that might just be because it's the one I listened to last! This is SO ipod music - wish I'd had this (these) on the bike trip I just returned from.

Votan said 32 days ago
I like your voice
it suits everything in the track (music, lyrics). Hmm, I normally stick to house but I might have to look into more of your stuff. Like this very much.

Char said 29 days ago
I love a good love song.
You gave us something original and honest. Thanks.
