glad you enjoyed it- thanks very much.

AcetyleneJukebox said 180 days ago
Lovely
I am familiar with the first two pieces. They sound pretty good on electric. Nice playing. Much enjoyed.

Ibstrat said 178 days ago
I'd
certainly prefer to use a nylon string, but I have to go with what I got!

This is a great idea(the challenge)I appreciate your comments!

Moviz said 180 days ago
If the
Lute had been electrified in those days, I'm sure they would have used it more often after hearing this. This sounds fantastic, three lovely pieces perfectly played. Sorry about the hand and hope it recovers soon, cheers M

Ibstrat said 177 days ago
Thanks Moviz
I used to play music like this all the time before my hand got Weird.Glad you liked the electric version!

Bob Rodgers said 180 days ago
This is

Three beautiful pieces and three gems here! I really enjoyed this!

Renaissance = Good Music
Wow! This is cool. I've played these for years, so I'm thrilled to hear them here at MJ's, and they work really well on electric. I absolutely love renaissance music. It's a great source of music for guitarists, because it was a period when the lute was king, or at least close to the top of the instrument food chain, and so a lot of fantastic music was written for it, all of which transcribes well to guitar. The classical period, on the other hand, was what I call the Dark Ages for the guitar. But I digress...

I hope you do some more of these!

Ibstrat said 177 days ago
I really
miss playing this stuff on nylon string- John Dowland etc. is some of my favorite music in the world.I agree about the classical period and guitar.I love Sor's music but was never a big fan of Guiliani,Aguado or any of those guys. Thanks for not freaking out about the electric- Segovia would have chased me around the room and tried to kill me with his cane!

dajama said 180 days ago
First off
this has the best title ever; you've outdone yourself, and can now safely be called the king of puns! Great playing, and very nice pieces, too. Not music I was familiar with prior to this, but very beautiful. I particularly like the second piece. Very nicely done. Peace.

Ibstrat said 176 days ago
I'm
running out of puns- I may need to think of some serious titles. Thanks for checking out my song!

elfdaughter said 180 days ago
Stunning work.
I'm familiar with all three of these pieces. Never heard them played on electric. They sound simply stunning - and I didn't catch the timing mishap! Hope your hand gets better!

Ibstrat said 176 days ago
Thanks for
checking it out.Hopefully someday I'll play on a real lute!

DWL said 180 days ago
Exquisite!
Nuff said.

Fantastic Mark. I bow to your wondrous skill.

Cheers

Fantastic
playing Mark. They sound wonderful - and to be able to squat a mosquito at the same time is unbelievable.
Cheers
Len

Ibstrat said 173 days ago
Maybe
I have a gimmick here-I'll start playing then "release the mosquitos!

guitapick said 179 days ago
Disappointed...
...I was expecting some 16th century distortion and feedback. What's wrong with you?

;)

I used to play these. You really do them soooo well. I know it must be a bit of a disappointment for you, not being able to play acoustic, but please accept my sincerest applause for how you've been able to translate the genre(s) to your electric. It's not a distraction in any way. The lines are beautifully separated and articulated. The sound is genuine, sincere, and loving.

You're a hell of a player, Mark...and thanks for the download. I shall carry these gems with me.

The mosquito...ahhhhh...hope you got 'im....

Ibstrat said 173 days ago
Actually
I missed- but he didn't return until after I had finished the piece!

Ejh said 179 days ago
Sometimes,
...try as I might to come up with some in-joke or wisecrack, I have to just give it up and say: Heck with it. This is just flat out GREAT.

Reminds me very much of John Renbourn's Lady & The Unicorn and The Hermit albums...maybe a bit of Sir John A Lot Of and The Black Balloon...All of which are frequent listens and favorites. I credit the first with getting me through high school and a couple of the latter got me through grad school...

You manage to get a very suitable tone for lute compositions out of the Ibanez...

If you haven't yet check it out, I might suggest Richard Thompson's 1000 Years Of Popular Music, which includes his early music/Renaissance version of 'Oops, I Did It Again'...

I'm now awaiting your Renaissance version of 'Walk Don't Run'. And the madrigal version of 'Sweet Child O' Mine'...

Ed

Ibstrat said 173 days ago
I'm
a big fan of John Renbourne. His playing of early music sounds more authentic than most classical players who are sometimes more concerned with technical perfection than playing with feeling.I will start working on "Sweet Child" right away.

Jarvoid said 179 days ago

very nicely laid back pieces, good job.

Only
problem is I can't make any loot with this music!

peacepiano said 179 days ago
Delicate
Even on an electric, this still has the delicacy you would expect from the period instrument. As always your playing brings out the best in the music.

Thanks
Bill

Gorgeous...
Wow Mark, sorry to hear about the problem you're having with your left hand. I hope you heal up soon!

The playing throughout is simply lovely. It's nice to hear all three of these classics in one sitting for a change. Timeless stuff!

Be well friend!

Thanks
Michael- I appreciate your comments.

The King will be very pleased by this.
Excellent as always Mark, but I would have expected nothing less form you. The fact that these three pieces are all from the time frame where they would have been appropriate for the Kings court only makes them that much more enjoyable.

Thanks for posting these 3 beautifully done works Mark, Bravo Maestro

for my musician friend here.

Lovely chill-out music, Mark. Your versatility is a delight.

Hmmm... thanks for the tip. I'm blaming all my flubs on mosquitoes from now on. ;)

were my idea. You can have horseflies.

Have you tried out the Taylor T5? I want one very badly. Plays like an electric, sounds excellent as an amplified acoustic. Might be good for your hand. Expensive of course, but I'm thinking of saving up for one.

Ibstrat said 173 days ago
I've
tried a bunch of guitars- electric and acoustic with no luck. Thanks for the suggestion!

i've had this piece of loveliness....
open on my desktop waiting for me to tell you how much i like it - it sounds so ... erm... civilised - does that make sense? i'm off now to practice my deportment - thank you xox

Ibstrat said 173 days ago
I'm
not sure how civilized anything was in the 1500's,but I know what you mean. Thanks for the comment!

if ever there was a period sounding electric guitar tone, this is it. excellent sounding. is this a mic'd amp or something in gb? tasty reverb. perfectly played, imo. very good meter, great phrasing and dynamics. can't tell when the mosquito bit you.

Ibstrat said 173 days ago
I'm
using Line 6 Gearbox and a crappy old version of Ableton- no amp. Thanks for checking out my song!

Electric Lute
I knew I'd love this before I even hit play - afterall, it's YOU! Your playing skill is hard to grok - this is just amazing to my ears. Did you learn these for the challenge, or are they in your bag of tricks anyway?

Ibstrat said 173 days ago
A few
years ago(before I messed up my hand) I was playing a lot of classical guitar.I kind of relearned these- I used to play them quite a bit.Glad you liked it!

jiguma said 177 days ago
Mark
Lovely playing as usual. I'd probably like to hear a little less reverb and a little less ringing in the RH channel. Typically wonderful playing - would love to hear you with a good recording setup.
Thanks for this, I enjoyed it.
Neil

Ibstrat said 173 days ago
Thanks
Neil, I'm probably not seeing any new equipment in the future. My daughter starts college in 2009,I might have that a little paid off by 2016 when my son goes into college. So I'm thinking maybe around 2026 or so.

Doadars Uncle said 176 days ago
Sweet!
Delicate and thoughtful. The tones are superb. Nice production. It feels as though it's being played in a vast hall in the presence of the king.

The title is awesome.

This one knew what good music is :-)
I hope you'll get your left hand back to normal soon .
All the voicings are very clear and softly played .
Beautifull interpretation .

It's terrible when the ability of playing music is reduced for us.
It gives more value to what you share here with us .
I suffer from my ears , I have to deal with it and it won't make me stop
playing music .
It's tronger than us .

Oh...
...how I love classical guitar. You play with such a sensitive touch. Each one of these tunes is beautifully performed. I very much like the "live" hall. It's probably not as authentic as a "real" venue, but the resonance you have created is really engaging and brings the music up very close and provides such warmth throughout your performance. Nice. Congratulations on a beautiful set. (Ah. The tuning is impeccable, too. What a pleasure.)
Peace.
Paul

Good interpretation
You adapt your style well to these pieces. I guess an electric guitar is actually more like a lute than the acoustic guitar is: your playing here is a lot more subtle than a classical guitarist would have approached it. Very lutelike.

Some interesting comments on this track. You're right that Segovia didn't like electric guitars. I read an interview with Chet Atkins where he tells about meeting the master, who was just going on a rant about electric instrument. Chet wisely didn't mention that he in fact played electric.

LunaTrick said 70 days ago
I'm stunned...
This is truly delightful... and I really like the effect it produces on the electric. I'm really enjoying your music and your talent!
