Keywords Stupid (29)
Description **remixed with louder vocals and bassier bass**

I know some of my songs are sounding the same lately, and feel free to call me on it. I guess I'm going through a bit of a phase :)
Hope the mix is okay. Didn't get a chance to listen to it in the car or with headphones for fine tuning. Let me know...
I won't get into what the song is about because, well it makes me feel stupid!
Lyrics SO STUPID

I KNEW A DUDE IN A FAMOUS ROCK N ROLL BAND
WHO THINKS HE LOOKS JUST LIKE BUDDY HOLLY
HE SANG ABOUT HIS GARAGE AND ALL HIS GIRLFRIENDS
HE WROTE A RECORD THAT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME
AND HE COULD WRITE A KILLER MELODY

WHERE DID YOU GO?
AND DID YOU KNOW I MISS YOU SO?
YOU CUT ME OFF, YOU SHUT ME OUT
WHAT'S THAT ABOUT?
I THOUGHT WE WERE COOL
I WAS A FOOL TO THINK THAT 'MY BEST FRIEND'
WAS ABOUT EVERYTHING WE WENT THROUGH BACK THEN

I FEEL SO STUPID

I GUESS I'LL NEVER KNOW AND THAT'S JUST SO SAD
I DON'T KNOW WHY I CANT FORGET ABOUT THAT
GUESS IT'S ALL THIS MUSIC THAT REMINDS ME

WHERE DID YOU GO?
AND DID YOU KNOW I MISS YOU SO?
YOU CUT ME OFF, YOU SHUT ME OUT
WHAT'S THAT ABOUT?
I THOUGHT WE WERE COOL
I WAS A FOOL TO THINK THAT 'MY BEST FRIEND'
WAS ABOUT EVERYTHING WE WENT THROUGH BACK THEN

I FEEL SO STUPID

OH I'M SO STUPID

boy that was quick
sounding good with the boosts!

rsorensen said 140 days ago
remix
thanks again, vic. yeah it didn't take too long. just slammed the bass a little and upped the vox.

12parsecs said 139 days ago
that was stupid
i like the other version better, stupid. just kidding! yeesh!

you ever go to put your headphones on, but you were stepping on the cord, and you accidentally hit yourself in the eye with your headphones? no? just me then. ok.

yeah, the bass is poifect! (without listening in my mastering room... ie. car.) vox lvls also perfect! this song has a great feel. i wanna listen to this in the garage, where i belong!

rsorensen said 139 days ago
hah
I havent, but I've gotten the headphone cord wrapped around a big glass of coke and pulled it right into my lap. i'd rather be poked in the eye. Thanks again for the suggestions!

12parsecs said 135 days ago
2 bass tracks?
killer idea. 'now with louder loudness and bassier bass and cooler coolness'

Lennon714 said 139 days ago
Hmm.
Great call on the subtleties (g'rage). I had a roommate once that shared my affinity for bouncy melodic rock with sad lyrics. I'll have to direct him to this song. The lyrics are deeply personal with that, "oh shit, I didn't just tell the world this story, did I?" feeling to them, but the music is just so damn fun you want to dance. Good job.

rsorensen said 139 days ago
personal
yeah.. regarding the lyrical content - not sure how long this'll stay up to be honest. I wasn't exactly subtle here.
Thanks for checking it out Eric. Your latest is really fun I love it.

guygrooves said 139 days ago
Much bigger
sounding, I do like this mix better, either one would have made it into my Itunes. Great song, and what makes it great is, it is easy to relate to. I think everybody has been there at least once. Thanks for a cool rockin tune.

rsorensen said 139 days ago
remix
thanks guy. yeah I had two bass tracks in the original but forgot to pan them left

Nice One
tis an ole classic, well played. Great voice.

thanks a lot tokai. just listened to Patriot and I love it.

Rock and Roll Ridd!
This is a superior mix. Love those rhythm chops and that boomin bass. Your vox is up front where it belongs and is very enjoyable!

Good tune about self-serving/fair-weather friends who move on as soon as the grass appears a bit greener elsewhere...

Nice job friend!

Be well!

rsorensen said 137 days ago
.
thanks micheal. i was worried that my voice was a little TOO up front, but I'm glad you think otherwise.

michael2 said 139 days ago
you know
i think that I know your friend (i am a longtime LA resident). that aside, this is a great song, and you really managed to make it better by kicking it up a notch.

i feel the same about my songs right now, like I get in a mini rut. i wouldn't worry about it though. you write better stuff in your sleep than half of what I hear out there.

rsorensen said 137 days ago

thanks. I'm glad I remixed this one. sometimes I lose all subjectivity (or is it objectivity?)when I'm mastering one of my songs. that's why this place is so cool for feedback. thanks for checking it out. keep ripping it up you're posting great stuff lately.

lavalamp said 138 days ago
No reason....
this shouldn't be on the radio. Except, maybe, it's too good for radio.

Excellent song, production and singing.

rsorensen said 137 days ago

thanks dave. i know what you mean. i tried to listen to the radio on the way into work this morning and quickly switched over to a CD. garbage!

rsorensen said 137 days ago
contrast
thanks SF. i like contrast and/or juxtaposition of all kinds in art. glad you think it worked

lengold said 138 days ago
The last one sounded great.
This one sounds like perfection. Love it and will download, If I ever get my mac back.
Cheers

thanks for DLing. i'm definitely on a rock and roll kick lately!

obbster said 137 days ago
Awesome
This song is great. Im a big fan of "your friend" and his band. This song rocks. Great melody and chorus. I think you should add even more harmonies to the chorus.

Cheers.

rsorensen said 137 days ago
harmonies
thanks a lot obb. Your suggestion is a good one I'll try it out. love your latest too.

RazorsKiss said 137 days ago
what
do you use for guitar tones? is it GB? if so, very cool. i did not get as good a tone as that using the GB tonebank. the whistling, and hoo-hoo's are magic. Great fade out as well....you have a great sense of what fits, and somewhere, you have got to be making money at this. there has been much ado recently on the boards as to whom here is a famous person in disguise. my money is on you, brother.....
great tune, wonderful, hooky verse and chorus... top shelf mixing, and well, if you are a someone in this sea of us amateurs, then you already know this...

thanks a lot. I use Line6 PODXT tones, warmed up and eq'd a little in garageband. thanks for your kind words my man. as far as being famous, you'd better check out my other tune 'I Don't Wanna Be a Rock Star' for the answer ;)

Dunce The Night Away
It's hard for me to resist a song with a harmonica part.

Lots of interesting touches in this song. Nicely done. ;)

Actually, listening on my studio monitors, it still sounds like the vocals aren't prominent enough in the mix. Try lowering the L-R guitar parts a bit... they are very crisp and dominate a bit over the vocals.

thanks joe! i'll keep that in mind for the master. appreciate the listen and feedback :)

Great Rockin
The guitars sound very great.

Take Care, CG

rsorensen said 124 days ago

thanks CG. it's all about bluesy riffs and power chords in this one :)

dajama said 136 days ago
Great stuff
I love the guitars and bass on this - nice and heavy with lots of bottom end. The lyrics are interesting, and your vocal performance is great, filled with attitude. Very nicely done. Peace.

rsorensen said 124 days ago

thanks dajama. i like the bass on this too. one of the few songs of mine i do in fact.

hammhock said 135 days ago
I'll echo...
..what others have said. This is a very cool rock song. Weezer influences, Buddy Holly references and a great harmonica track bring me right back.

Nice job.

rsorensen said 124 days ago

thanks hammhock. i really cant get enough of that harp lately! i love the way it works with the guitars

I missed this the first time around. I like the morricone arrangment, if you see what I mean.

rsorensen said 124 days ago

Very kewl ....
.. i started to listen to the original .. and then while listening and reading comments ... thought I would just JUMP straight over to the remix ..... last night I had a friend over and asked her to listen to something ... she was listening away and said OH YEAH it sounds GREAT ... and then I noticed that she had the headphones on inside out .... the silver metal part was clamped over her ears .. and the sound was blowing OUT into the room .. hahahahaha ok .... now back to the tune ..... GREAT track ! You must have a great octave range cause I still think on a lot of your tracks there is a female singer doing backup ... even though you have told me it's ALL YOU!

rsorensen said 124 days ago

haha backwards headphones huh? too funny. nope, no females singing with me this time. actually my wife hates it when I sing 'like a girl' haha. thanks for listening.

peacepiano said 133 days ago
Edgy
I like this. It has an angry edgy sound to it.

Thanks
Bill

rsorensen said 124 days ago

thanks bill. definitely some anger in there. glad you liked.

bud said 133 days ago
Loved it from the opening guitar tone
to the first backing vocal. What a great mix of T Rex and
the kitchen sink. I hear a little Fountains of Wayne in the smart pop sense. This is a towering piece of music though and doesn't ride on any coat tails. Fantastic.

rsorensen said 124 days ago

thanks bud. i've never given FoW a fair chance - always considered them a Weezer ripoff band. But now that I'm ripping off Weezer perhaps I should give them a fair chance ;) thanks for stopping by

Nick_Flash said 133 days ago
hoo hoo
Nice song Ridd. Very catchy all the way through. That opening riff had me thinking the song would sound completely different than it actually was. Love the deep chords in the chorus - it has your friend's band type of feel to it.
On a completely unrelated note my daughter's new favorite song is Pork and Beans - smart kid!

rsorensen said 124 days ago

thanks nick. yah i gotta admit ididnt know where it was going when I came up with that opening riff. your daughter has good taste just like her dad!

somebuddy said 129 days ago
Nice
I love the payoff feel that the chorus brings. Everything seems to fit together nicely. Very interesting lyrics and story also, say it ain't so!

Looking forward to the album.

rsorensen said 124 days ago
chorus
thanks russ. yeah i went back and added harmony to the first half of the chorus. it sounds a lot better now. glad u like.

Soundhound said 129 days ago
Don't feel that way.....
This is a masterpiece very well put together...
With style and a nasty bluesy rock attitude......
In real time.......

I.........LIKE IT..........

rsorensen said 124 days ago

I wouldn't feel so stupid
making music like this! Besides, if you are the stupidest in Canada, I'm the stupidest in Japan. And there are 5 times more people here - making me pretty stupid.

Tiny_Man_Inside said 93 days ago
hmmm
yeah, this is really great stuff. You're a real treasure on this site Ridd.

Even though you said that you feel like you've been in a rut, I don't ever get that impression. I feel like every time I click on one of your songs I'm going to get something new and different...

and that is one of the best compliments I can give, because there is nothing like that feeling of anticipation of hearing some new music from an artist that you really like.

I can't say that everything you do strikes me as amazing (for instance Amanda didn't quite do it for me), but I love the versatility, creativity, performance, and most all the way you execute an idea from start to finish - songwriting to mastering and everywhere in between, you've got a different level of talent than the rest of us.

Tiny_Man_Inside said 93 days ago
hmmm again
yeah, so I'm a dumbass. I didn't even really comment on the SONG.

I just love the feel of it. It's one of those "yeah, I know what that guy was thinkin' when he wrote that song" type of songs. you know, the guitar sound really fits well to back up that feel, like it was perfectly slotted for this track. There is a touch of lament and melancholy in this song that mixes well with the self-effacement of saying "I'm so stupid".

I'm not familiar with your background, so I can't say if this song is a true story or not, but if it isn't, it's well done because you can really feel the emotion. And if it is, then I'm a bit pissed off at the Pork and Beaners... 'cuz that's weak to blow off your friends.

wow thanks a lot for taking the time to write all that. those are some kind words and I'm quite humbled by them. I love making music and it's extremely cool knowing that someone else out there is getting something out of it too. i have a lot more in me itching to get out and I wish I could be in my little 'studio' 24-7 recording, but a song or two a week will have to do for now... maybe someday that'll change...

Thanks again, man. Made my day.
