Description The music is a direct attempt at doing a early '70's Glam Rock tune.

I had the music done several weeks ago. But, I was getting way to busy with work projects and things like that. That's how the lyrics came about, always a day behind in getting anything done. I wrote those a week ago and finally was able to put down the vocals last night.
Lyrics One Day Behind

sometimes I forget what day it is
seems my brain isn't wired that way
sometimes I forget the plans I made
I could catch up if this was yesterday
I am one day behind
I am taking my time

ch:
time, time, time is escaping me
fine, fine, line where's eternity
I me mine I'm wasting my time
time, time, time is escaping me

one day behind maybe a week late
maybe it's not important after all
if I start my life all over again
maybe this time I'ld be a day ahead
I am one day behind
I am wasting my time

ch:
time, time, time is escaping me
fine, fine, line where's eternity
I me mine I 'm wasting my time
time, time, time is escaping me

I guess I'll take it the way it is
I'll chalk it up to my laziness
time just seems to fade away
I could catch up if this was yesterday
I am one day behind
I am taking my time

WOW ...Spacy UFO kinda rocky Vic ..!!! ... outstanding
guitar works indeed ..how could you do that ?? the
twine guitars sound ...incredible by all mean ....
true a great early 70s rockin sound ..thnx for the
gem !!!

Vic Holman said 186 days ago
Thanks Feter
The twin slide guitar work, on the second guitar i play a harmony line up a third. It was done alot back in the '70's. like UFO, Queen, Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash and others.

Thanks again Feter

Ejh said 186 days ago
I don't know why I bother...
..aiming for 'firsties' anymore, with Feter around...

Does the Internet pass through his living room, or what?

Ed

Ejh said 186 days ago
I think...
...this is one of my favorites among your lyrics...

It may, as always, be my headphones more than anything, but if you're aiming for glam (and of course that covers quite a bit of teritory), then I think I could stand to have either another dB of vocal, or maybe a little more space around the vocal, so it's forward... Whether it be 'Moonage Daydream' or 'Bang A Gong', having that vocal, and the personality that goes with it, out front and center, is sort of key to what I always heard in the glam sound...On my listening gear, the vocal could stand to leap out of the massed guitars just a little more...

I'm also thinking that it would be neat to anchor the treble of the guitars with a sort of meatier, grittier, (humbucking?) rhythm guitar in there... in a low midrange register, maybe... I keep thinking I hear one in there, so maybe what I'm asking for is for a little low grit to come forward, maybe spread wide in the stereo field with the higher guitars up the middle...

Nits taken care of, I'll get back to how much I like the song, which is a lot... Good vocal delivery, neat Chuck-Berry-filtered-through-Bolan-and-Big-Star solo(s)... Great drive...

Ed

Vic Holman said 186 days ago
Thanks Ed
to answer your first question..... Feter IS the internet.

I get what your saying. I should have used my SG on some tracks for the lower grit. good point. Originally I had the vocals up, but got a bit self conscience i guess or maybe i got to use to them. Thanks for being a second set of ears.

Skean said 186 days ago
70's
no wrong with that think the best live music was in the 60-70's
You have it all here my friend as always love your work.

Take care

You could be right about 70's rock music. seems there was more variety in styles.

Doadars Uncle said 186 days ago
Richness!
Cool groove! Nice breaks. World's movin' too fast! But it seems you're keep up, here.

Well done,
Doug

Vic Holman said 185 days ago
Thanks Doug
I appreciate you giving it a listen.

Believe me, I am always a day late.

jiguma said 186 days ago
Cool track Vic
Love the solo tone - all round good post (as usual). Could have cranked the Schecter up a bit for my taste, but what would you have expected ;)

Good lyrics, well sung and played - yeah Ed may be right in that the vocals could come up a bit - especially noticeable to me in the final harmonised bit.

You mean you work AND do this!?

Cheers,
Neil

MarkHolbrook said 186 days ago
Either the internet begins
or ends in Mr. Feters place. He's always first! But hey I couldn't think of a nicer guy to be first.

As usual Vic this is stellar in a 70's kinda way. Really great. Will have to listen with the phones shortly.

M

Vic Holman said 185 days ago
Hey Neil
well i got to pay for this equipment somehow (check out my artist page. I posted a photo of most of my guitars)

Okay, so this morning I did go back and boosted all the vocals and the bass, beefed some lower end to the backing guitars. See, I listen, but I doubt if I'll repost it any time soon.

Vic Holman said 185 days ago
thanks Mark
phones are better on this, there's some piano and a brief organ part that i kunda buried in there

jiguma said 184 days ago

Vic, you won't mind if I show that pic on your bio page to Jan when she feels I already have too much gear will you?

;)

Vic Holman said 184 days ago
ha
and yet, there is a 12 string, a reg. acoustic plus a short scale bass, a 60's Vox bass amp and all the pedals that aren't shown. a guys got to have a hobby.

KILLER!
Incredible is what I really just heard. AMAZING work here Mr. Vic and really something that left me speechless. Killer guitar work, the vocals at its best and the whole composition is totally grand and pro.

I guess I should agree with Ejh and Jig about the mixing, it's great but just the vocals could come up a bit as the solos in the background taking place louder a little bit and for the bass.... YES as I'm a big fan of your bass tone and playing.

Thanks for such a killer track, enjoyed it!

Take Care

Eighthies!!
Vic, I've always wanted to be eighth... The internet runs about a mile from my house, so it takes a little time to even get in the top ten commentators.

I am glamming this song very much. What can one say?... Another Vic hit download for the "Victrola."

cheers and thanks

Vic Holman said 185 days ago
thanks Jack
You must be exhausted from running back and forth, to and from that internet that's a mile away. When I used to have dial up I would come in around tenth.....without running a mile

said 185 days ago
Superb!
Great post Vicar!

Geez,,,who among us can't identify with these lyrics? ...And you bring the message home with fabulous guitar-slinging throughout.

I'm gonna have to get me one of them "flappy picks"!

Be well bro!

Vic Holman said 185 days ago
Thanks Mike
..and not to mention a short nap time.

True, I figured a lot of people could identify with this.

Usually I use a harder pick. but flappy ones are fine as well.

guygrooves said 185 days ago
Love the sllllllliiiiiide...
This is a great song. Your vocal has a Tom Petty feel to it. I really dig the guitars in this. Very uplifting and relatable lyric in this too. Outstanding.

Vic Holman said 185 days ago
Thanks Guy
I have been accused of the T.P. quite a few times. Using the slides through out was a after thought. I was just goofing at the beginning but it sounded good and decided to use them through out as well

what's great
...... is I'm finally on vacation this week. So, I won't need to worry about time and what day it is........ well, until next Tuesday, then it starts all over again.

buckhorn said 185 days ago
Im salavating
over your guitar collection (I figure, I better learn to play what I have before I buy any thing else)...as for the tune, I relate much better to this theme than the last, cool harmonizing leads too. Cheers

Vic Holman said 184 days ago
luckily
I don't have to replace the strings all at the same time. there's only six that I actually record with, but i play 'em.

I figured most people at times felt the same. I thought they predicted that computers would free everyone up for more leisure time. boy where they wrong

rsorensen said 184 days ago
1 day behind
hah! awesome. a successful attempt at capturing that era. love those guitars!! still it has that distinct holman sound i've come to love though. good one, vic.

rsorensen said 184 days ago
OH YEAH
and I REALLY like those BG Vox at the end

Vic Holman said 184 days ago
sometimes........
I think I am a retro-holic.

the end vocals, I was able to get done before my voice went down the tubes, since i cut all the vocals in one session. There's a pedal out now that adds harmony vocals. it's got me a thinkin'

I was going to add a cowbell but couldn't get a decent sound from it.

get this, originally i started writing lyrics about my travels in my old VW micro-bus back when I was 20. i miss that party wagon

lengold said 184 days ago
Another Vic
classic. Excellent in every way.
Cheers
Len

Vic Holman said 183 days ago
Thanks Len
I tried to make this more classic rock, even more then I usually do.

Thanks for the listen, but aren't you long overdue for a new tune?

lavalamp said 184 days ago
Guitar rock
Love your guitar collection. Do have enough?

Beautiful guitar work. Got love clapping.

Most of the bands mentioned in previous comments would be jealous of a song like this.

Dave

Vic Holman said 183 days ago
Hey Dave
some guitars are not pictured and yet I'm thinking of getting another acoustic. house repairs first though.

It wouldn't seem right without the claps. I did though cut some out so as not to overdo it.

Peter Bauckham said 184 days ago
Great
retro sound - I grew up listening to Bolan and Bowie and this would have fitted in nicely too. Only heard this through the iMac speakers so can't really judge whether this has enough bass 'grunt' as they have no bass. Good song anyway!

Peter

Vic Holman said 183 days ago
thanks Peter
i was trying to tie in with the T-Rex, Mott The Hoople and a little Ziggy. Alot of them still where doing some of the Chuck Berry type solos, so that was very deliberate as well.

Bob Rodgers said 183 days ago
Great
harmony guitars Vic, they sound superb, love that sound!

Great vocal/lyrics and a superb song all round, great stuff!
Hearing this took me back to the '70s in London where I would go and see all the bands you mentioned! Great times!

Excellent track! Loved it!

Sorry I'm late here!

Bob

Vic Holman said 183 days ago
no one is late here
unfortunately all the early 70's glam bands i had on 8 track. those are gone and none of them ever came through our town. well there's youtube at least

DWL said 183 days ago
Just a day behind?
I'm normally about a week at least.

Excellent song again Vic. I envy your creativity.

Cheers

Dick

Vic Holman said 183 days ago
Thanks Dick
I finally got a week off from work. when I get back, I'm going to be two weeks behind. I just know it.

bud said 183 days ago
Sorry I'm late
but you know how it is...
great track Vic - the harmony guitars are killer and the lyrics are spot - on sad to say.

Vic Holman said 182 days ago
Thanks Bud
this song is all about being late. :)

If I was ever up to date on things, I'm not sure I would know what to do with myself.

12parsecs said 183 days ago
70s
you definitely achieved that 70s vibe with this tune. classic rock gtr tones. 70s, almost 60s, gtr soloing - very well done.

nice vocals too. i wasn't paying too much attention to the lyrics this first pass, but may i just say your voice reminds me a bit of colin hay. (that's a big compliment, in my books.) thanks for sharing!

Vic Holman said 182 days ago
who can it be now
no ones made the Colin comparison before. But, yeah I can see that.

every once in a while I do a obvious retro tune. I have also been enjoying your music here.

Thanks for the listen.

Ibstrat said 182 days ago
I'm
a big fan of harmonized lead guitar- this song hooked me right from the beginning, very Mick Ronson. The guitars plus your unique voice add up to a great song. The mix sounds fine to me but what do I know?

Vic Holman said 180 days ago
Thanks Mark
It's kind fun in figuring out harmony lines. I was inspired by how Mick Ronson, George Harrison and Brian May would compose them. When doing slide guitar harmonies it really fills out the sound. I also separate them opposite of each other.

dajama said 181 days ago
Great stuff
I love the sentiment (sounds all too familiar!) and the delivery is great. I love the guitars on this. as always. I really think the genius of your mixing is your ability to find room for all the instruments to breathe. You have so much going on, but nothing is ever buried or mashed together in a sonic mess (I think 'mashed together' is the technical term, isn't it?). Brilliant stuff. Love the solo (and the solo sound) in particular. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Vic Holman said 180 days ago
mashed together
... that's what I call it as well. It just takes practice and some patience to wedgy (another techy term) everything in. I find dropping levels on parts of tracks better then trying to boost other parts.

thetiler said 180 days ago

Man sometimes I forget to listen to you I need an alarm system. Oh wait they have that already!

Vic Holman said 176 days ago
Hey Tim
Bell or buzzer. the alarm system at work makes me nervous on entering the code. sometimes it works fine, sometimes it goes off.

thanks for the listen bro.

Glam!
I used to love Mott the Hoople, thought I still have no idea what that name means.

Great tune. Those whole chorusses of distorted guitars sound great.

Say, you clearly know your was around guitar production. Why does your bass sound intelligible while playing a stream of identical eighth notes? I hear too many songs on this site where such a bass part just becomes a big drone that only clutters up the mix. Mind divulging your secret?

70's Glam Rock
I think we all wanted to be a part of that at one time or another. Crystal clear mix makes this a pleasure to listen to.

Vic Holman said 157 days ago
yup
I remember the ziggy stardust hairdo was quite the thing to have. i had mine cut like mick ronsons back then
