Description This song is 99 percent Dennis James and perhaps 1 percent mine. Dennis posted this on his MacJams page and I simply loved it so much that I added some drums to it and a bass line. I then remastered it.
But make no mistake ... this is Dennis James at his best ... and his best is incredible.
The guitars are perfect but that is not the only merit to this song. As usual Dennis has worked magic with his lyrics. They seem on the surface to be simple, but the simplicity is deceiving. Try writing lyrics that work as well to make his point as these do. Try writing a line like this one:
"But it’s all a sick illusion
The catalyst of your confusion"

If you are not a Dennis James fan like I am, I hope that this posting will turn you on to one of the truly unique talents on MacJams.
Lyrics Words and music by Dennis James

It’s the lowest kinda high
And your back’s against the wall.
You forgot just how to fly
Thought you were above the law.

All your friends have bit the dust
Caught between lost dreams and lust….
For what they need to feel the power
No matter just how sweet or sour.

You all think you are the ones
Who shine brighter than a thousand suns.
But it’s all a sick illusion
The catalyst of your confusion!

There ain’t a thing you wanna do
‘Cos no-one walks inside your shoes.
You know you’re way above it all
An’ the rest of us won’t play the ball.

There’s only one way you will go
And it will burn you deep and slow.
Until you see the world outside
You’re gonna end up dead and fried….

It’s the lowest kinda high
And your back’s against the wall.
You forgot just how to fly
Thought you were above the law.

Great addition to a great song Bill
Dennis' song was awesome to begin with, and just makes it that much better. Great bit of work from both of you.

Always good to see that you have stopped by. I do begin to wonder if you do anything else besides surf around MacJams. I guess there are places in the world that it is not good to be outside and doing other things. :)

wow
This jam is amazing, to put it simply. Nice crisp mix, and awesome guitar. Drums are very well done. This is what talent is all about.

wow
this is a great remaster - it makes a great song even better

thanks

Thanks smoke
It took a bit of time to choose exactly the right sound for the drums and some tweaking on the mix but I think I ended up adding to rather than ruining the song.

I have....
listened to both of you and I am a fan now thanks again.

Cool....
...Bill...very different....funks it all up. Really crosses the late 60s with the modern in a most compelling way. Thanks for posting.

Dennis.

LOLOL....
.....makes the last minute even more manic by three!

thanks Dennis
I did add a bit of an effect to the last guitar solo. It was a bit of a flange effect but it was added in parallel to the original track as opposed to using it as a serial effect in the normal manner. I also doubled timed the bass track and the drum track. What is the sound effect of the man at the end? Who is he and what is he talking about?

Dennis James said 182 days ago
And....
....in the naked light I saw, ten billion people, maybe more....
The song is inspired by self medicating friends and foes who get to the final low of petrol sniffing etc....

OH heck ...
I should have recognized the line but my mind was transfixed on the words of the prophet written on the subway walls. :)

Very cool
A great addition to the track. The drums are killer on this! Really great snare sound, and a terrific mix. NIcely done. Peace.
