Don't tell me that's one take in ONE TRACK?!! Another masterpiece from you Mr. Mark, just flying with happiness listening to this excellent track. AMAZING!

Take Care
- Yeman A. Al-Rawi

Ibstrat said 144 days ago
Thanks
Yeman. It is one track and one take, but I did try it a bunch of times.I was getting a little tired of playing it so I went with this one.Glad you liked it!

Relic67 said 145 days ago
chet atkins move over
Holy cow. You've got some mad skillz happening there my friend!
Fits in perfectly with the opry theme. thanks for posting...

Ibstrat said 144 days ago
There
are a bunch of great clips of Chet Atkins on Youtube. He played on lots of tv shows.Just sat there and played guitar- I never see anything like that on tv now.
Glad you liked the song!

Warren Smith said 145 days ago
Take me to the opry
Slow down!

Ha-ha-hah : >

Is there any kind of guitar style at which you don't excel?

Ibstrat said 144 days ago
I am
pathetic at- flatpicking bluegrass, flamenco, shredding metal, fast bebop jazz... I'm not really a country player but I like the Atkins style stuff. Thanks for checking out my song!

lengold said 145 days ago
Wonderful
Cheers
Len

Ibstrat said 144 days ago
Thanks
Len.

composerclark said 145 days ago
More superlatives needed...
I continue to love the way you play. This is great! Fantastic. Stupendous... etc.

Ibstrat said 144 days ago
Thanks
Clark.Just curious- do they teach jazz or electric guitar at your school or just classical?

composerclark said 144 days ago
Curious
We only teach classical guitar. I grew up playing a variety of styles, and I'd love to see us expand the styles we teach, but for now it's just classical.

Bob Rodgers said 145 days ago
Great
sound and superb playing Mark!
Just wonderful, loved it!

Ibstrat said 144 days ago
Thanks
Bob- your latest song sounds great!

sloparts said 145 days ago
As always Mark
your fingers tell the story so well. Man I wish I could do half of what you can do on a guitar. This is so excellent my friend. Great entry into the MJGOOC.

Thanks for sharing

Ed

Ibstrat said 144 days ago
I
wish I could sing half as well as you.Right now my voice is about 6% of yours. Thanks Ed!

Moviz said 145 days ago
I'll
bet your fingers are a blurr as you play this Mark. Just a great sound and the way you temper the mood with those little breaks, is like your telling a musical story in paragraphs; excellent as always, regards M

Ibstrat said 144 days ago
Glad
you liked it Moviz. Thanks again for your great vocal on Rollin'!

jiguma said 145 days ago
Amazing Mark!
Your playing is, as always, superb - and your recordings are getting better and better. This is one of my favourites of yours so far, and a great contribution to Dolly's show.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Ibstrat said 142 days ago
Thanks
Neil- I like playing this kind of stuff. My jazz snob friends think it's ridiculous but who cares!

jiguma said 142 days ago
Ahhhh ..
.. to have the choice ;)

Now that was some fancy pickin', partner.

Exceptional, Mark. ;)

do 'preciate it. Thank ya kindly!

TEXASFEEL said 145 days ago
Fantastic
Nice Chops, you really have mastered some fine music here. Reminds me a tad of Steve Howe, you know I always thought he should have played the GOO. Thanks for sharing this special piece of music.

Ibstrat said 142 days ago
Steve
Howe was a big influence on me years ago- he got me interested in a bunch of styles I probably would never have checked out.I'm sure there are a few riffs stolen from "The Clap" in this!

Ejh said 145 days ago
Plainly...
...you're just not getting out enough. You're sitting in your lonely room with the tube radio, dialing in the country stations and listening to old Chet Atkins LP's...

And plainly, you're not challenged enough by life, generally.

That's why I'm going to start the MacJams Surf Music Beach Party! You know, a little Ventures, a little Dick Dale... Maybe a super-fast beach version of 'Third Stone From The Sun'... Cute little quotes from 'Wipeout' and 'Walk Don't Run' and so on...

After that, it's on to the 'Yngvie Invitational'!

Please stand by...

Ed

Ibstrat said 142 days ago
The surf
thing is actually a great idea. Not sure about Yngwie- my harmonic minor scales have slowed down considerably this past year.(Not to mention my diminished arpeggios)

12parsecs said 144 days ago
great tone
great country, tele-like tone you achieved. masterful picking, yet again. very jazzy progression/bass notes at times. very cool. and i have to agree with yeman, if you did this in one take - the rest of us should just give up now and quit playing guitar.

Ibstrat said 142 days ago
Please
don't quit- I need people to steal riffs from!

guitapick said 144 days ago
Lived in...
...a small Ohio town for awhile. There was this guy played regularly at the lounge of a local hotel. Lots of Chet. Lots of great. Guy could pick on a guitar like nobody's business. This sounds sooooooo much like him. Amp settings/style/feel...

Fine post, Mark. Sometimes your playing blinds me to how great the compositions are...as though you're playing someone else's piece. Then I remember it's yours...keep 'em comin'

announcer said 143 days ago
I wonder if the guy you are talking about
was a high school friend of mine named Terry Efaw. What a talent he is. When I first heard this I thought of listening to him just "noodle around" when we used to go to his house.

He was born in Athens county and I think he still lives in the Columbus area.

Ibstrat said 139 days ago
Replys
malfunctioning.

Ibstrat said 139 days ago
Well
most of my songs are a collection of stolen riffs.I think that there may be an original riff in this song about half way through!

DWL said 144 days ago
Classy stuff
A very fine tone on the guitar.

Excellent as always.

Cheers

Dick

Ibstrat said 139 days ago
Thanks
Dick- your latest song is a blast!

RazorsKiss said 144 days ago
well,
it figures. someone so proficient at fingerstyle picking would be a danged master at country style fingerpicking.. HA!
loved this one, a great post for the challenge.. i have had thoughts of doing something for this one too, if nothing more than to blow a few minds..... see we shall... see we shall...
AD

Ibstrat said 139 days ago
Thanks
I'd love to hear you sing some country- maybe some old country rock like Marshall Tucker.

Micheal_Wark said 144 days ago
Well...
...plaster my ass with jam and set me on an anthill!

Very cool country pickin Mark! Tickled my ears with delight it did! Ha ha...

Be well friend!

Ibstrat said 139 days ago
Thanks
Michael-glad you enjoyed it!

John Stebbe said 144 days ago
Greats
Greats like Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, and Glen Campbell would all be tapping their toes to this fantastic track. Your playing seems to do homage to their style.

This sort of complex playing just demonstrates that at this level of playing, it's just as much about training your brain to think in different layers as it is about finger technique.

Bright and cheerful. Music is fun, and you have proven it again!

Ibstrat said 139 days ago
Thanks
for the comment.Country music seems to have been taken over by male (and female) models in jeans and cowboy hats who sing songs written by song writing task force in Nashville. There a couple of guys like Vince Gill and Brad Paisley who can really play but there gettin' as rare as hen's teeth and frog fangs.

Vic Holman said 144 days ago
should...
...I call you Chet or Roy?

some mighty fine picken 'n grinnin' Mark.

Ibstrat said 139 days ago
Maybe
Chet Edwards or Roy Rogers- don't think I'm near as good as Atkins or Clark.Glad you liked the song.

guygrooves said 143 days ago
You are one great picker......
I love listening to you play, you have a Chet Atkins vibe going in this. I wish I could play like this. It's a song everyone should hear, outstanding. Thanks for sharing.

with my morning Joe. Mark, the sound of your guitar is amazing. I can hear the minutest details in your recordings. Always intimate. Great track

Maestro,encore,bravo...great howling hellhounds but this is magnificent and inspirational...course I'm not talking to you any more as the little green imp of envy is now in the room!!(joke!!!!!!)But where the hell do you start to learn this style?Brilliant ,see ya later.

Jarvo
PS
What amp is it your using and how are you recording it?

Ibstrat said 138 days ago
I really
just picked it up on my own.I learned "Deep River Blues" by Doc Watson and went on from there. There is a good book called "Fingerstyle Guitar" by Ken Perlman that I use for teaching.
I'm not using an amp- just straight into Line6 Gearbox, Ableton software. Thanks for the positive feedback- I played background music at restaurants/parties for years and was completely ignored.I'm glad some people like it.

Komrade K said 140 days ago
Excellent!
Loadsa wicked licks played with such panache they seem almost lazy and thrown away like drips of an ice cream cone melting in the sun.

Tom Atwood said 138 days ago
Wonderful guitar
This is my first time hearing you. Very reminiscent of Chet Atkins at his laid-back best. (I got to carry Atkins' guitars for him once--before I interviewed him-- when I lived in Nashville, but that is another story.)

Excellent piece!

bud said 138 days ago
Call it whatever you want
it's plain amazing what you can do with six strings and ten fingers - unless you were abducted by aliens and got some kinda special refit. Great pickin' son!

thetiler said 135 days ago
wonderful
chet type sounds, lots of good use of the reverb and country floor. Terrific hesitations as well.

Thanks sharing !

dajama said 135 days ago
Awesome
And that's not a word I overuse. Very cool melodic track, wonderful playing, great guitar sound. Your skills and your musical soulfulness are in perfect sync, a rare combo. Nicely done. Peace.

Hopelessly Fawning
It's easy to comment on some songs. But there are some, like this, that so completely impress me that I'm thrown off my listening game.

What most strikes me is that you're not showing off here so much as sharing a style that you've mastered. This is the antithesis of the playing that used to impress me in the 70s when I thought Mahavishnu John McLaughlin (sp?) and Larry Coryell were hte pinnacle of guitar artistry (when in reality, Django had them beat by several fingers.)

And so, too, do I appreciate the new life you bring to Travis, Chet and other fallen guitar heroes.

Ibstrat said 116 days ago
Don't
know if I have really mastered it, but I like to fool around with the Atkins type stuff. I tried to play like Maclaughlin for awhile- I was terrible at it.(I still love The Inner Mounting Flame)That whole playing really fast thing lost me at some point- maybe because too many other people were doing it.I do like some fusion stuff esp. John Scofield. Thanks for your comment.

shiner said 87 days ago
One for all
I've listened to nearly your whol repertoire. I can't comment on everyone or i'll wear the letters off my keyboard so I'll post one generic comment.

There is no doubt that you know how to play guitar. You've get such an amazing tone and some of your runs are superb.

Absolutely amazing guitar palying.

Thanks!!!!
