Description I'm calling this a Gospel Power Ballad. Not sure if that's accurate. This is a song about hope.
Lyrics For such a long time i've been under this cloud/
couldn't even see the road/
my heart was heavy-- my shoulders burdened/
on my back was such a heavy load/
i was looking out for everyone except myself/
didn't know if i would even survive/
and then i looked up and saw an angel appear/
it was then i knew that hope was alive/

beyond a dark horizon/
i see risin' a sun that's new/
beyond a dark horizon/
i see you/
beyond the darkness falling/
i hear calling a voice that's true/
beyond a dark horizon/
i hear you/

sometimes you have to wait a lifetime/
for just one moment for all things to change/
and it's in those moments of clarity/
your thoughts begin to rearrange/
maybe you always thought that life was goin' one way/
never to look ahead/
but sometimes you need someone to enter your life/
to remind you to raise your head/

beyond a dark horizon/
i see risin' a sun that's new/
beyond a dark horizon/
i see you/
beyond the darkness falling/
i hear calling a voice that's true/
beyond a dark horizon/
i hear you/

I was down on my knees/
begging someone, "Please--/
is this as good as it gets?"/
And then suddenly you/
came out from the blue/
telling me, "No, not yet!"/
Like a drowning man in the middle of the ocean/
I was dying along with the tide/
But then you swept me up with your love and compassion/
And held me close to your side/
You--you kept me alive/
And now, I'm gonna survive.../

beyond a dark horizon/
i see risin' a sun that's new/
beyond a dark horizon/
i see you/
beyond the darkness falling/
i hear calling a voice that's true/
beyond a dark horizon/
i hear you/

Like the fade in!
But you really should get a cupcake to sing it . Hope is a beautiful thing. Let's share some.

Mistake in my post
I put a wink after the comment about getting a "cupcake" to sing the song... but the site filtered it out. Didn't want it to come off as negative, which it looks like without the wink.

Great Opening
I love how you started this piece off. The old timey record and then fading into CD quality stereo rocks. But, then I start to fade as a listener. I want more. I think the verse needs something more. Perhaps adding a guitar line could bring another layer and sustain the piece. It just seems to drop off in intensity. Overall, I think you're on to something with this though.

Great Opening
thanks fer the feedback. i wanted to crank this one out quick--i was burning
to share it. i'm no real keyboardist. i really wanted to wail on the gospel organ
thing. i'd love to redo this with a full gospel choir and maybe another singer.
it does need fill. but i did get hooked on that chorus (obviously).

Wonderful words, so full of optimism in the cold dark light
of day.

I like your melody and refrain. It's got that hypnotic thing
working again. I want to fall into a trance as I listen to this
as if it is set to an endless loop.

Seriously soulful vocals
This is great stuff.

Unfortunately, the drums really spoil this. They have a
half-time feel that saps the energy from the vocals.

Try layering a percussion loop (or two) over it, and turn
them down a bit too?

Really, these vocals deserve better.
